Kit Review: Dragon 6217 Sd.Kfz 251/21 "Drilling" in 1/35

This is my review of the 2004 Dragon 251 Drilling kit in 1/35. In the tradition of the Dragon 251's there is a lot in the box.

    Thanks for adding the history of each kit you review I find that interesting and helpful before purchasing a kit.

    michael green You're most welcome. That's exactly why I do it. Sometimes more than others, but I try to make sure we at least know who we're dealing with.

    Thanks for a great review. Those little tracks would drive me crazy with my eyes. And I agree with you on painting figures

    dalton vickers You're welcome, thanks for watching. I don't mind the complex builds, but things like tiny tracks can really do your head in.

    From my experience these kits fit very well when assembled in few sessions. It is important to glue the walls of the hull togethet in one session, otherwise you may end up throwing the whole thing in the bin.

    Another good review of a kit I have.......those parts in step 1 are the tranny and fuel tank, although you don't see them once the floor is installed. One of the better renditions of the 251, some corrections were made from older Dragon versions, like the lower hull side armor plates (PE), larger center console hump and better visors. The Drilling was a naval gun incorporated into the design that's why it's mounted on a pedestal. The part on the rear hull (with the round ball type bit) is the electrical socket connection when they towed field guns etc to power the tail lights. Thanks for posting......those tracks will articulate if you build em correctly. The hull with the single hatch is correct for this vehicle (late type with radiator access hatch). BTW, the decal sticker for the large gauge on the dash is incorrect, you can buy replacements from Archer if you need to replace them. Unless painting is your option, just pointing it out.

    Sadly no, the only thing close (and that one's not finished) is the Nebelkraftwagen from AFV club, which has the same suspension as the 251s. But I do have Tamiyas Stuka Zu Fuss that will eventually be a better version than the kit one. I do love the information interchange of the hobby, always learn something new. Just read a lot over the years and studied a lot of reviews....a great book I would recommend for you is "Militar Der Wehrmacht" I think by Ryton Publications, but I could be wrong. A bit pricey but worth the cash. It covers all German softskins and halftracks, armored cars, Zugmachines (like the Famo etc.). Great book Sorry for blabbering on......:>}}

    PFMANN1 You know I think certain types of PE are easy and others scare me. If it requires bending and assembling in to a shape I have reservations. But the flat and just single fold PE I've become pretty confident with.

    I have the original hold and fold that they made in the 1980s and I still don't know how the thing works properly to tell you the truth. How is that Tammy straight bending pair of pliers or whatever it is they sell? Do you have one of those?

    I don't, but xuron make one i saw ata show a few months ago but it could only bend small right angles. Did it really well though.

    That could work really well for those small straight pieces that only require only one bend.
