Watchin' You was always an interesting song vocally. In the early days Gene sang the first verse alone then Paul joined in for the rest of it. Here they sing it all together and by the reunion tour Gene was doing the verses solo. Excluding the 3 drummers and Paul all singing lead on Black Diamond at times, Cold Gin is the only other Kiss song that I can think of that saw that many vocal differences between the "traditional" version, the 1980 tour and then the reunion tour.

The drumming just makes them sound like rocked out cover songs. Cool fills, but Peter just has that shuffle thing that you can really feel.

I would say Eric overplays some here, which I'm guessing is sorta of what you meant. Idk if it's b/c the songs are uber simple or he's bored or what, but there are A LOT of unnecessary fills.

Arthur Bishop I know... But I do like this style (mostly for a Change). It gives the classic Kiss songs here a laid back 70's feel (think Frampton or Grand Funk Railroad). Until I heard (or saw) this I never realized how much affect a different drum style could have. Cool.

With Eric Carr gone and Singer in, the tempo is slowing. The amazing late 80's shows is where musically Kiss were at their prime. Paul Stanley's voice is on a slow slope of no return at this point. The fans at this point were longing for the old looking Kiss, the unmasked era brought some of the best songs, but Gene and Paul knew this experiment to stay fresh was wearing thin at this stage.

?? This is them returning to form. Eric Carr, God rest him, was a terrible choice for KISS. He rushed like crazy and his drums sounded so weak live. Eric Singer is a world class drummer and had already played with Sabbath and Alice Cooper by this point. This era here totally set the stage for a demand for a reunion. Revenge sold big numbers in contrast to the sad 80's era band (Creatures had some good tunes but that was the last one). 80's shows are painful to watch for us 70's kids - I've tried.

@@countvond233 I have a weird thought about both eras that contradict everything both of y’all said. Simply put, Eric Carr too me was a phenomenal drummer, just had the wrong spot in KISS at the wrong time. If Eric Carr had lived long enough, to see the 90s Revenge Era, he could’ve been on A game, I always loved his heavy drum sound on record, and yea it sounds a bit paper thin live, but I think his studio sound was great. Eric Singer is a great drummer, but he’s too perfect for KISS imo, what always made KISS cool is they didn’t feel the need to perfect their sound, they were ok with it being a bit sloppy sometimes, which Eric doesn’t have, and didn’t play as fast as Eric Carr. To me, I take interest to drummers who have creative drum parts, or play fast, which Peter Criss & Eric Carr had weighing over Eric Singer right from the jump.

When Eric Carr first joined the band back in 1980. His drumming was pretty natural, good, and heavy. But by 84 during the Animalize tour, his drumming went to shit by moving too fast and all over the place at the same time. It's almost as if he was showing off more than he was actually playing the songs.
