Well, if there is a link from F-Zero to Kirby--this officially links Star Fox to Kirby. That being said... I consider the Great Cave Offensive as less canon than the Subspace Emissary. It was just a fun little treasure hunt that was not actually part of any real plot in the Kirby series. Great Cave Offensive is either not canon... of a Big Lipped Alligator Moment. Somehow... All this is made even more unsettling by the fact Shinichi Shinomura, one of the key developers of the Zero concept, seemingly has disappeared, vanished as if they never existed. All accounts about Shinomura are scarce, incomplete and contradictory. Once the Zero games were done, Shinomura just faded away.

I love how throughout these videos you barely mention Kirby at all. You allude to him, certainly, and he appears in the game footage, but you always manage to keep the focus away from him and what he represents. It's almost as if your saving him for something... something BIG.

Hey Woolie, you okay with a few points from a resident Kirby Lore nut? Zero had no personality, no wishes or desires. It just existed. It floated around, it didn't really observe because well... it just didn't care. Cut to the original gameboy game where Dedede was defeated- it humbled him and made him angry with Kirby. It caused him to try and play the hero in adventure with the fountain of dreams (which he failed at) so that he could get the same amount of praise but it didn't work out. His jealousy and anger grew. It's this jealousy and anger that somehow got Zero's attention. The strong emotional feelings drew Zero closer and why it keeps going after Dedede to possess him as it gained the want to learn more about emotion. Dark Swordsman is a mockery of what Dedede imagines a hero would be (notice they have the same yellow/red triangle thing going on). Gooey was spawned on the opposite side- a part of Zero got close to Kirby and his pure heart and it led to the unfeeling white sphere learning about kindness and compassion. Gooey is a fragment that's trying to copy all the good qualities of the life on popstar (and it's why it shares Kirby's ability to copy) Zero's main body starts acting on it's own after that but it's why Void Termina (a play on Final Zero) is such a treat to lore fans. It's Zero reborn from negative energy which leans it to the corruption side of things but Kirby (again) is nearby so part of it is trying to mimic Kirby. It's why it's constantly flipping between DM/Kirby/Zero's faces, the thing is ripping itself apart trying to figure out what it wants to be and why the secret boss has the tagline that "maybe it can come back as a pure friend next time."

Nah, it just didn't interact with anything so it's first influence was negative. If it was incapable of joy or anything then Gooey wouldn't of came into being and VT wouldn't be able to lean towards Kirb at all. There's a japanese column that came out a little while ago that dropped all pretense and stated that Void is Zero and Hyness is obsessing over Dark Matter and it's original being and was trying to call it back in a controlled state. note that I mentoned 02, zero's second form after his first defeat, not Zero. what I mentioned was specifically attributed to 02, as in somethign went wrong after it came back and it became unable to feel joy.

What I think draws Dark Matter to Dedede is his insecurity. It’s a weakness of the mind, which makes it easy to control. Dedede is ashamed of his past mistakes, and it makes him afraid to do anything, for fear of messing up again. However, he hasn’t been possessed in a while. In Star Allies, we learn that Dedede has finally resolved to better himself and become a better example for his people. Now, he’s more than physically strong-He’s mentally strong.

Think of the poor souls that witnessed dark matter for the first time. Also Void Termina is not really a part of Dark Matter but supposedly an elder god that embodies the concept of light and darkness in a single being according to Star Allies. That's probably why it looks like Dark Matter and Kirby's species and has been shown using some of their powers. Kirby would then likely be a creature born to oppose Zero's darkness by his very nature and explain why Zero is unable to corrupt Kirby.

I always thought Void Termina was more like a progenitor of both dark matter and the kirby species. That once it dies or is destroyed, it could be reborn as one or the other which was to hint that dark matter and Kirby are related in the sense that one is an absolute good and the other an absolute evil.

We know that Void Termina is an algamation of light and darkness and that it existed for eons but beyond that there is no proof that Void Termina is more than an incarnation of both force of the universe that just happens to be Zero and Kirby. It is very likely that Void Termina is the progenitor of both and I also believe this but it is never hinted at directly in Star Allies unlike the fact that Void Termina is indeed an incarnation of both light and darkness and possess abilities usually exclusive to either Kirby's species or Dark Matter. There is actually some proofs that Void Termina may be the progenitor since Dark Matter is known to be able to manifest its own memories physically since Robobot. Both Void Termina and Kirby are implied to do that during their final battle. Gooey, Miracle Matter and Void Termina himself also seems to have copy abilities that link them all with Kirby as some sort of network representing the nature of the Kirby universe. Kirby's species is light, Dark Matter is darkness and Void Termina is the Essence of Chaos that exist above the established balance. I've seen some trying to say that Void Termina can mean final Zero but it is actually pretty wrong. zero as a concept imply that something is lacking from what was here. Void/Nil mean the absence of everything including the concept of zero as nothing can be missing from everything else if nothing exist in the first place. End Nil/Void Termina actually mean the end of nothingness, which would actually fits its possible nature as the progenitor of light and darkness and with them the balance of the universe. Void Termina is also one of the only Kirby character who is canonically a God in-universe, even Zero is never refered as that.

The problem is that in this video, he seems to imply that Void Termina is a part of Dark Matter like Dark Nebula, which is not completely true as far as we know since Void Termina is not just darkness.

Quick side note: The original japanese instruction manuel for Dreamland 2 stated, that Dark Matter (Swordsman) came to Dreamland because it was envious of the bond of the residents of Popstar. So it really was an independent incarnation of Dark Matter.

@@creativebeetle Prima guides are not official sources, they are aproved as official guides to beat the games but they are not an official source when it comes to the lore of anything.

This is a genuinely amazing video. The writing is evocative, but also incredibly considered. The visual presentation is top notch. Music choice and line delivery are perfect tone-setters. And most importantly, this (even more than other Kirby Lore videos) makes me want to explore Kirby further. Passion projects succeeding so absolutely like this got me into making videos in the first place. Thank you for taking your time with this.

I think a possibility when it comes to kirby's origin is that he is a species related to the ancients or possibly was created by them as their last master piece, possibly they saw the true form of void termina and created their own "version" as a weapon to combat it, or they enhanced one of their own kind, and hid it away on popstar to prevent its corruption as many of their stronger creations tended to be , hence kirby, who kills gods and cosmic beings as a pass time and takes naps afterwards

This is the first of these I’ve seen from you Woolz. And I confess: Kirby or not, some possible Pat related in-joke or not. I’m impressed and pleased by the imaginative delivery, wording, and presentation of this. Especially when you don’t directly watch the screen and just listen. Woolie, you and those who helped have genuine talent.

This dark take on Kirby's background lore gives me chills everytime :D

I just had a theory. Going by what I’ve learned so far. What if Zero, Void Termina, and Kirby are just the past, present, and future of the same entity who’s existence is basically stuck on loop like a broken record? An endless cycle of consumption, assimilation, and replacement.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

You know what's odd about Kirby history? King Dedede seems to be the most aware inhabitant of the lands in the series and indirectly tries to save everyone from the risks and impending danger. Think about it, he tried to stop Kirby from releasing Nightmare from the Fountain of Dreams, he found himself victim to being masked, (I haven't played any other Kirby games in full, but) and in Brawl, he...um, made, found, somehow had revival badges (with his face on it) [to prepare] for the death wish (butterfly attack) of Tabuu. Kirby, Ness and Luigi were the only ones with the badges to revive from the aftermath of the attack, and awoke Dedede from his trophy state. He then cheered to see they were alive and knew his badges worked. I've always liked these subtle details about characters and their histories

I absolutely loved Zero Two as a kid; something about it fascinated me to no end. I always imagined it was a being that could only understand misery, but this video adds so much more depth to its character.

I never thought that something so unassuming on the surface as Kirby would concepts this deep and abstract. Thinking about it now, there really are some very mysterious and inexplicable things lurking in Kirby's reality. Not to mention, Kirby himself is somewhat of an enigma.

Have I told you how much I unironically love this series?

Nintendo owns most of HAL and the Kirby IP is officially owned by Nintendo. Kirby games are officially Nintendo games with HAL as a dev. Nintendo could choose another dev to do their Kirby games but they don't since HAL knows how to do their jobs. Also since the IP is owned by Nintendo, everything in it probably has to be aproved in the first place. There is no way this stuff would be in the games if Nintendo was against it from a legal standpoint. Studios working under Nintendo usually have quite a lot of creative freedom as long as the new games fit the criterias of quality and tone set by past games. Reminder that Nintendo also own and aprove of Fire Emblem, which often uses incest as a plot point. Xenoblade is also technically developed internally by Nintendo (Monolith is an internal studio unlike HAL and IS) and these series plot points usually revolve around the nature of humanity, God and religion itself. They also technically co-own Bayonetta but that's a special case. Nintendo doesn't care about what is in the game as long as it fits the tone and Kirby has been on the verge of Eldritch horror since the second game, so they clearly don't think that would be detrimental to the series as a whole.

Great interpretation of storytelling, thought provoking lore, amazing choice in music, amazing artwork with a good amount of horror mixed in You are doing something really interesting, can’t wait to see what you’ll cover next.

I've been waiting for this! Great job! I still prefer the more sympathetic interpretation of Zero being a lonely being that just doesn't know how to be good (since it's made of negative energy), but the hard Eldritch interpretation is great!

The Earth has had a long history of pain, misery, suffering, and war all brought about by our free will as humans. The will to take that which is not ours. The land, the objects, the very lives of those who posses what we want. All by our free will. Perhaps... Once we become of one mind we can see how much we've wasted over the 1000s of years, many beings as one. One mind. One Heart. What is said here in this video is true. Loss of free will is no real loss at all.

This came to mind when watching the new Smash World of Light Trailer: " A few notes: -Kirby is the only one that in his own games has fought Master Hand and Crazy Hand regularly -Kirby fights Cosmic Abstractions in his own games almost on the daily, making him the most likely to succeed this mission - Master/Crazy Hand are a metaphor for the player. The puppeteer of the "characters" who would be the puppets. It goes more in depth than this and is recommended to watch the video "Ultimate Smash Bros. Theory: Smash is Autistic" to understand how and why. - When this new entity destroys all the hands it might be about a meta-narrative about it wanting to break free from any sort of control, even the players control. If the characters are the vessel for the "player" to defeat any adversity in the Smashverse, then this abstraction chooses to defeat both the "hand" and the "tool", with the 1% surviving being Kirby. When Kirby absorbs the Master Hand in his games he gains the ability "Smash". We might see a similar new ability if story mode allows. - The army of clones is just that (replacing the player). But more interesting is how the Abstraction isolates itself behind a barrier, this leads me to... - The Abstraction we see here might be another incarnation of ZERO from the Kirby series. Zero is sort of the main antagonist of the series and can't materialize itself directly in the universe and has to use Dark Matter for vessels, normally combining with other entities as well. Zero lives isolated in a hyperzone, inaccessible to everyone else. When Zero got defeat, Zero2 emerged and looks like an angel of like, though forever bleeding from it's eye. The game describes it as "Benevolent creature", meaning it's possible that it's original deeds were something that we couldn't understand and it's first killing result in its sadness (bloody tears) . I thought this makes sense because of "The world of light" title, even the way it destroys all the heroes is through beams of light rather than anything resembling darkness or other more typical motifs for villains. The beams seem to come from a black-hole however, and that itself could be the opening for the hyperzone. The new abstract body-vessel of Zero resembles less of a form due to complete materialization proving being not very useful in it's previous attempts, and locks itself behind a barrier so that none may access the hyperzone where the real Zero lives. "

Woolie, please do an audiobook of H.P. Lovecraft using this exact voice. I'm begging you.

Guess this means Magolor is a dark matter as well. Considering the fact that he was trying to hide it. The mask he wears covering his mouth was probably mean to seal the eyeball. But it is revealed in his soul form. There's a lot of variations of zero and dark matter through kirby bosses, and enemies like the waddle doo. The waddle doo being a possessed version of a waddle dee. Perhaps magolor's death scream wasn't even magolor screaming. It was zero himself. All these years trying to stop kirby, but still, gets defeated time and time again. In agony screaming. I believe there's much more, but i don't know so myself.

Magolor's soul is actually Magolor deformed by the Master Crown. Since the Master Crown is now confirmed to be linked with Void Termina, which is supposed to be an incarnation of both light and darkness, it is actually more likelly that Void Termina tainted the Master Crown with its power giving everyone who fall victim to it the appearance of darkness itself. The True Arena is actually an AU and Magolor survived in canon and is even a good guy now, so he is clearly not an incarnation of darkness.

@@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx Let's just say that the japanese description of Void describe him as a being that serves as the origin of all "chaotic possibilities" alongside "Soul Matter" and "Dark Matter" amongst other things so all the AUs are also technically canon but in their own realities since they are canon to the omniversal constant that is Void. They are not always bad endings since Magolor is one of the rare "Soul" that is saved in normal playthrough. Sectonia and Haltmann/Star Dream dies anyways the difference being the degree of suffering and madness they go through. In these case they are not "bad endings" but "worse ending" really.
