Breve Regnum anon. -- the oldest known song of Krakow students from XV ct., which was sung during the election of their "King" and his court (15 - 22 of October). It is about the life of students and how seven days they having parties, skip lectures and then, later their "King" will be the one to blame for all of students deeds and will be punished. Such custom is also known in Germany, France, the Czech Republic, as a continuation of the Roman Saturnalia. Manuscript was first mentioned in 1973, and the original is kept in the National Library of Warsaw.

Simply amazing! I've learned this song (in Polish version) in my primary school class about 28 years ago. I'm very glad to find it on YT.

It's sad and strange that so many think of it as nothing more than a interlude between classical antiquity and the Renaissanc! Zgadza się. Warto przypominać i promować, ta muzyka jest PONADCZASOWA, tak samo jak "Tempus est iocundum" (Totus floreo). Ludzie się nie zmienili od tamtych czasów - i oby w tych sprawach się nie zmieniali - chodzi o zamiłowanie do nauki, a także miłość, zabawę i radość. Gdyby autorzy tych utworów z czasów średniowiecza zostali przeniesieni do naszych czasów, to pewnie oniemieliby z zachwytu, że po tylu wiekach ktoś wciąż pamięta i wykonuje ich dzieła.

Tak jest! Ja się tego uczyłem (tyle że w polskiej wersji) na muzyce w podstawówce, jakieś 28 lat temu :) Pamiętam do dziś w całości.
