Little tidbit of info on kingfishers, Eiji Nakatsu was a birdwatcher and engineer for the company that built/operated the bullet trains "Shinkansen" in Japan. He was inspired by kingfishers to solve the trains sonic boom problem when exiting tunnels (pressure differentials). Kingfishers dive from one fluid (air) into one 800 times more dense (water) with very little splash. The aerodynamics of the bullet train were modified with the kingfisher as inspiration.

Their german name is Eisvogel (Icebird), while the "ice" is most likely coming from their iridescent feathers. Beautiful birds. Königsfischer (Kingfisher) was an old synonym for this bird here.

I just read an Eskimo fairy tale about Ravens.(book titled, not sure if Inuit would be more accurate or any other more PC term). The Raven wanted to marry a sparrow, but was rejected because of it's bad worm hunting, then moved on to try to marry a goose, and the geese were flying south, and he claimed he could keep up, but needed rest on the way, where he slept on top of the geese he wanted to marry ... yeah... two goose wives to be..., but they saw the other geese flying away as he slept on top of them, they needed to catch up, and threw him into the ocean, where he turned into the Sea Raven, an interesting looking bottom feeder, in case you find anything interesting to draw or tell about them. They are very interesting bottom feeders, lots of fins.

Man, seeing them dive with pinpoint accuracy gives me a lot of respect for these little birdbrains. I dived only once headfirst and that time I penetrated at least 3m of water and hit my head on the ground. I thus wonder how they prevent slamming their long beak into the ground.

Hi Danielle, I just love the way you narrate and I'm a big fan of Your channel. You certainly inspire a lot of people by educating us on different species and what is so special about them. I don't know how hard it is to collect the archives of all the animals but I must say they are amazing and definitely very rare footages. May I please ask you to do a humming bird video next. 💓 and ☮️ - Your fan

I love kingfishers! But kookaburras especially the laughing kookaburra is my favorite kingfisher species! Did you know that the classic dolphin laugh sound is actually a kookaburra sped up? Also kookaburras don’t dive like other kingfishers. They have a more fiercer prey. They'll prey on lizards, frogs, small snakes, mice, small birds, bird hatchlings, bird eggs, and fish
