I'd be happy with KHII graphics. The flat colours and strong sense of style allow them to still look really good at 4K. I just want to play this game with a full controller. I've mapped the camera to my right stick by emulating the mouse on the touch "screen", but it doesn't work well as the motions a stick make do not map well to stylus use.

This is one of the best kingdom hearts boss fights in the whole series. It has the drama, the stakes, and the disney flavor. Two friends, who both are the most important person in the other's life. Only one of them will survive, and the other will be forgotten. You fight through multiple disney worlds, with xion changing her style for each world. Her attacks are powerful, and she doesn't stagger. However, her moves are not hard to learn, and you are rewarded for being patient. The fight ends at the place they meet the most. It's sad, dramatic, exciting, and represents everything kingdom hearts is about. Too bad its buried under some garbage bosses.

Really my only complaint is that whenever she uses ragnarok the game slows down and she can get spammy with it. A remake could've fixed that. A remake could've fixed a lot of things.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Days is a very special game to me, and even through it probably has one of the poorest KH gameplay experiences on an average playthrough, the relationship at the center of the game (That of Roxas, Xion, and Axel) is still one of my favorite stories within the larger KH narrative, and the bosses plus story missions that accompany them are some of the best in the series. One of my biggest hopes is that maybe one day Square will do a full-on remake of this game that cuts out the bullshit and puts a bit more thought into the core game mechanics, with emphasis on the things that the original did right. Because imo Days doesn't deserve to be remembered as the worst game in the franchise, since (at least to me) it has one of the most impactful stories in the whole series (blows BBS out of the water by FAR, and I'm not taking that back) and made some additions to the series formula that I wish one day get brought back for future titles, like Mission Mode, and the ability to fully customize your loadout both ability and stat wise. Damn, I love this game, and it breaks my heart that it gets so much scorn by the fanbase.

@@mega20able Well, KH fans aren't the most rational type. Days was one of my favorite games ever when I was growing up, pretty much for the same reasons as you did. The gameplay, aside from some specific moments, was largely forgettable, but the (more cohesive than normal) narrative and characterization was miles ahead of other games in the series. And that's super impressive considering this game was on the DS. I think the reason the worldbuilding stood out is because it actually closed threads instead of just opening them up. KH has a huge problem in it's storytelling where it subsides on creating constant story beats without ever giving them a proper, cohesive ending - and when that ending does come, it's usually unsatisfying or cheap (see Xehanort Saga). Which isn't to say that's inherently a bad thing, but when they keep doing it over and over and over again, the cracks start to show and it's tiring and lazy. BBS may have added a ton of worldbuilding, but still had the same lack of closure. Unlike its predecessors, Days actually answered more questions than it raised, and fans learned more about the inner workings of the Organization and the various motives of the characters, while providing a great character arc that had a proper, emotional ending. That's why it stands out to me.

Yea a great boss on a bad kh game

Imagine living a life where you are actually considered worthless. Imagine being a literal parasite on the one person who cares about you the most. Imagine both of you being pawns in the malevolent schemes of a sinister organization. Imagine some stranger tells you that the only way to get meaning out of your life is for you and your friend to submit your individuality so the real hero can save the day. Imagine trying to convince your close friend that you are going to kill them as you continually taunt them into bringing out their full strength to kill you instead. Imagine having to hold back your power but put on just enough of a display that its convincing. Imagine becoming the size of a ten story building and casting a shower of holy light on your friend. Imagine standing there awkwardly as your now pocket sized friend drifts through the air and plants his face directly into your right tit for a good 15 seconds while your holy magic completely whiffs. *_Imagine being Xion._*

I was getting in deep thought until you mentioned the right tit part, lol.

Ngl I liked the ds version of the cutscene because no music plays so it sets up alot of tension for the fight.

Despite the game's flaws, I loved that each phase was somewhat based on one of sora's main attacks in kh1. The Agrabah phase, being Ars Arcanum to me was the hardest to get around, but I didn't actually watch attack tells like I should have.

Vector to the heaven one of the best themes in kingdom hearts

I don't care what people say! This game made me cry! I don't care its mission based. I don't care about Ruler of the Sky. This game will always be one of my favorites in the KH series. And Xion is best girl! Don't @ Me!!!

The game is really fun,just the missions were repeated near the end,and most bosses were crap(aside from Xion,Riku and the sand boss thing that Axel keeps occupied for a while,the others were either meh or time wasters).Mission mode with Multiplayer makes those missions so much more fun to play,though. Shame the Ds online wasn't recreated on the 3ds.Now we can play this only by using some Melon emulator...

This game is my favourite of the portable KH titles and really helped me understand KH2 a bit more as I'd played this long before KH2 but i loved every minute of it and still play it to this day

Xion: "Roxas, please defeat Xemnas and free Kingdom Hearts." Also Xion: "Riku, please stop Roxas from defeating Xemnas and freeing Kingdom Hearts."

The final phase of the fight is always my favorite part. Not only is it big on spectacle, but it also highlights the tragedy. It’s here where you realize that the reason Xion is antagonizing Roxas like she is is because... Well... She wants him to destroy her. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the Organization probably did enough to “fix” her into getting her into this mindset, but her end goal is for Roxas to finish her off so she can return to Sora. It’s why she sounds more desperate during the end, why she warns him when she razes the ground, and why she tells him to stop holding back. And the music just fits the moment perfectly; emphasizing the battle, but highlighting the tragedy; showing that even if Roxas wins, he’ll still have lost, as that victory was achieved at the cost of one of his best friends. And unfortunately, it’s the only way things can go.

I feel like a better plot for kh2 would be this, and this is just my opinion of course. Scrap chain of memories because it's almost completely useless and sora donald and goofy don't even remember it. this also means that the entirety of the orginization will still be alive and will be fought in Kh2 358/2 days will instead take place between kh1 and 2 so we get to know roxas before hand. at the start of 2, Roxas has just lost Xion and he does remember her. I think Xion's death would be a good driving force for Roxas in this, so the whole Idea of Xion being a replica and all and roxas not remembering her doesn't really work in my opinion. It would be better in my opinion to just have Xion as another regular organization member whom Roxas and Axel formed a bond with. (Obviously the story of 358 would be changed to accomidate this) Roxas is devastated and, without thinking, uses his organization portal powers to head to the world that never was to confront Xemnas. you play a boss but it's one of those fake bosses that you can't possibly defeat. Roxas gets his ass kicked and Xemnas takes away his portal power and flings him across space. Roxas wakes up, dizzy, in Hollow Bastion. Roxas, who was found by Merlin found and put in his house runs into Squall, Yuffie and the gang. they tell him about how he arrived there and he starts to remember and roxas makes a meta joke about Squall's name and he gets slightly annoyed. the gang who saw Roxas' keyblade and organization coat and realize he must be sora's nobody while he was knocked out, tell him that he should find him, donald and goofy. he talks about how they travel to different worlds to rid them of the heartless. They give Roxas they're old Gummi ship and bid him farewell. Roxas wonders why they were being so nice to him. in a later cutscene it is revealed that the organization attacked hollow bastion one time. when the group sees roxas, leon says that he is one of them. but aerith sees his keyblade and physical resemblence to sora and tells him that roxas must be the nobody of sora. and thats why they helped roxas and gave him the gummi ship. Roxas flies away in the gummi ship and that's when you see the Kingdom Hearts 2 title card. you see our familliar heroes following pluto after the events of the first game. pluto leads them to Disney castle and he gives them the note from king mickey. Sora reads the note. its about the current situation. there are new threats that they weren't aware of and the note says to go to twilight town to find mickey's old mentor. they take a spare gummi ship and head there. all the usual events occur until they start going to the disney worlds. at the land of dragons sora and roxas meet and they decide to team up. For this game the main focuses of the story will be roxas feeling regret and sorrow over Xion and wanting to amend his mistakes, Sora, Donald and Goofy looking for their friends, and Roxas and Sora's budding friendship. throughout the game there will be interactions between the two of them getting to know each other better and them, as time progresses, becoming more comfortable and trusting with each other. all of this will lead to a payoff at the end of the game. the whole game continues as normal only with roxas tagging along. throught the game roxas is also a playable character whom you can switch with at any point in the game. You will also fight zexion, vexen, larxene, xaldin, demyx and marluxia in the various worlds. once the group heads back to hollow bastion, after the 1000 heartless fight. leon finally tells sora and roxas about their connection and how roxas is sora's nobody. this might seem kinda fanficky but maybe when sora split himself and roxas was created, the keyblade split too and that's how Roxas has a different keyblade. you proceed through the second waave of disney worlds and head back to twilight town. It is revealed that Xemnas manipulated Axel to think that Roxas maliciously murdered Xion and that he is the bad guy in all of this. instead of that nobody fight just before you reach TWTNW, it's a fight against axel as roxas. Axel dies in an emotional moment. Roxas explains that he never wanted to hurt xion or him. axel's last words are "okay. I believe you buddy. I believe you." The game continues as normal. riku kairi and sora reunite minus the whole riku looking like ansem thing. sora introduces them to roxas, they fight the other luxord, saix and xemnas, kairi, donald, goofy and Mickey head home, and the final battle against Xemnas starts. after defeating Xemnas the three end up in the realm of darkness and they find the note and the door to light appears. Riku goes in but Sora sees Roxas waliking away aimlessly. Sora asks where he's going and Roxas says he has no idea. he doesn't have a place to go. Sora tells him to stay with them on Destiny Islands. Roxas scoffs. Sora explains that Roxas is a good person and if he had one, he'd have a good heart. he deserves to have a home and to have friends. roxas starts crying and hugs sora and enters the portal with Sora. they make it back home and the game ends. Anyway, thats my idea of improving kh2's story. I might have just wasted your time but this seems good to me.

I kinda wish the Xion data fight had these forms to her, but I ain't disrespectin' what we got

that part exists X10000...... there's even a glide one, flow motion one, underwater one, 2 different ground ones....... a couple goat norts BUT it gets crazier if you add the DLC........ .. you fight the goatnorts like 3 times 4 or 5 if include remind...... and meteor xehenort lol

I wish Square would do a full HD remake of this game. It's so good and deserves more.

My personal headcanon is that what Xion summons is actually the Kingdom Key’s Keyblade Armour.

This video was actually a big help on how to dodge some of Xion's attacks that I didn't know how to before,like for example her Ragnarock-style attack during her 2nd phase,I could never outrun them for some reason so I thought you had to hide behind a rock to make them hit it and have them disappear,anyways props to you Will,definite props. (Also side note,but I love how in her final phase she goes "is that all you got?" during certain attacks,as you proceed to kick her ass)

Roxas had just betrayed the organization and Axel has always been the one Xemnas sent to deal with traitors (in fact the next time he meet Axel in KH2 they fight) so at this point, Roxas is all alone. Plus for Roxas eating ice cream and chilling together is what friendship is. He doesn't know any other way at this point.

We need a full remake for 358/2 Days but with two extra modes: An updated version of the Mission Mode where you can team up in multiplayer online with other players as various characters and then an updated version of Birth By Sleep’s Battle Arena mode, again, as online multiplayer. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Please Square Enix, make it happen!

I've always thought they should remake this game.

You know, now that the dark seeker arc is over, seeing this fight and scene again just resparks some of the feelings I had when I first played started (I was late to the party, My first game was KHCoM because I didn't have a PlayStation 2 when the first game came out, then I got a refurbished PS2 with KH1 and KH2 bundled with it). Ignoring the HD (the older games were old, the gritty graphics come with the package [I know you're only using the HD so its not 'as hard on the eyes' for the viewers, I'm not faulting you for that]), there were a lot of emotions that went into the first few games... then the reveal that all of this was planned by a single person. That one man changed the fates of worlds of people, it makes me want to play through the original games again, I played KHFM in Japanese and I have Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories so I skipped KH 1.5 and just did 2.5, but maybe its the nostalgia factor that I want to go back and replay the originals since I have all of them(Unfortunately I can't play the original BBS because my little brothers overcharged my PSP battery and I haven't found a replacement yet). Kingdom Hearts gets confusing and its hard to explain sometimes because its a puzzle with many pieces, I'm a little sad that this and Re:Coded were nothing but cutscenes in the HD remake. I'm starting to ramble now, goodness, anywho, thanks for putting this up, it was nice to see this again. It reminded me of the fun I had with this, and the early days when I watched someone on youtube who modded KH2FM and did multiple Sephiroth/Lingering Will Terra fights (by multiple, I mean he had a 5 Sephiroth fight and a Sephiroth and Lingering Will fight and other insane setups).

The second KeyBlade is actually pretty scary looking

Here's an overview of Xion's arc in my fic (inspiration, "Drakengard" OST), told in the form of mission objectives: Objective: The Wraith Mask accepts the offering which guides your Keyblade. End Xion's lunacy for altruism. Break through her armor, and force her to take your horrific power for herself. Objective: Your best friend may have broken all plans, but he gave you a chance to live, and you can now feel him through the mutual hunger between yourself and your original self. Claim Kingdom Hearts and use its power to save both. Devour anyone who stands in your path. Objective: Roxas and the Wraith Mask opened your eyes to the lunacy you were about to commit. Defeat the assassin you thought to hold all answers, and procceed to Kingdom Hearts and Xemnas. Objective: The puppet no longer follows your advice, and your symbiotic mate steals your power. Return the favor. Accept the Outsider' gift. Draw from the Void and bend the walking black hole in front of you to your will. Save your best friend ! Objective: DiZ's borrowed time is at an end, but no enemy is truly defeated until their spirit is broken. Destroy his inner Sanctuary's inhabitants and quench the bloodlust that has filled yours. Objective: Despite her crime, she was as justified as Riku. Aid her in battle. Show her she can crawl back from the pit once the fight is over.

How did you get the resolution for the fight

Has anyone else noticed that xion was the first to master form changes??? Years before even sora or the 3 students?

Well no because the 3 students did it 10 years before this lol. And she didn’t master it, this was all because of the devices Xemnas had set up over many worlds.

If Xion ever gets her own original keyblade, it should look like the almost keyblades she uses when she gets giant.

Just noticed now at 6:54 did they make a bit crushed version of Aqua’s attack sound for Xion?

I'd like a hd version of this fight

I feel like if we come together and make a big enough deal out of it we can eventually get Square Enix to remake this game. If we were somehow able to organize a crowd and have each person contact Square Enix's support suggesting a 358/2 Days remake and everyone made alt e-mails so we could maximize the number. But then again, managing to do that is 10 feats and three quarters, it's way to crazy to pull off

In her final form when she's using that deadly powerful blast of light that makes you have to glide to the side, Knowing what magic Square enix puts in there games doesn't that look slightly like an advanced form of (✨Holy✨)? But.. It's just something that looks familiar to me is all Also just gotta say before I finished this battle in the game... It gave me the erdge to cry knowing the relationship between these two characters would actually get really dark this far... And xion never wanted any of this... Rip you innocent little bean..

I think this is the only KH boss that has 4 phases. Even Xehanort in KH3 has 3 Phases

Anyone else think this and Recoded need a switch remake or something similar?

So many questions. How she got this armor of hers? Are the armor like the ones for BBS , but with nobody symbols? With Xion power, would she have done some damage to Xemnions? How long did she knew this cool power of hers? And why isn’t she in the Kh3 Remind!!!!!

Recoded honestly is the most impressive game on the ds I was blown away we how well they game looks and runs You can tell they learned from the mistakes in this game going into recoded

It’s been quite a few years since I last beat Xion, but I don’t necessarily remember it lagging so bad when I played against her. I’m thinking it’s the emulator doing it

Boy them graphics drop so hard at 2:13 .....

Days was my first game in the series and I absolutely adore it, I've played all the other games (aside from CoM and Union X) but I know most if not all that has happened in them (aside from new things that may come to UX) but is it ever explained why Xion transformed like this? I know most keyblade wielders seem to be able to summon armor (aside from Sora and Riku, and well most of the Guardians of Light it seems) but why could Xion and not Roxas or Sora, she wasn't taught to be able to and she only does it when fighting Roxas. So why does she and how? I've wondered that ever since I played BbS.

Late response, but it's because of the devices you set up in prior missions at the locations you get teleported to in this fight.

Xion transformed into an approximation of Sora - and thusly, has some of his attacks, like Thunder and Ragnarok and Ars Arcanum - because while he sleeps during this game and the beginning of KH2, Xion holds all of Sora’s memories.

@@Jac-Man yeah I remember that, as that was part of Xemnas's plan was to keep Sora from waking by having Xion around. But I am still wondering why she had the armor variation, but neither Sora nor Roxas does. I thought maybe it was because they were not formally trained. But to my knowledge we never see Mickey having armor either.

@@marianto2341 It's been a little while since I've brushed up on the lore, but I'm pretty sure that's the gist, yeah. Roxas set up the devices in Wonderland, Halloween Town, and Agrabah, and they absorbed Sora/Roxas's power, which was why Roxas was feeling weaker while Xion was getting stronger. It was less of a matter of her summoning armour, and more of an actual transformation that just so happened to resemble keyblade armour.

What would you guys say - is this game (and by extension Re:Coded) worth a shot? I didn't have a DS back when it originally released and so I've never played it, but I keep hearing extremely mixed things on it and since the game isn't super cheap where I live I held off on buying it so far.

358/2 Days: Story: A+ Gameplay: C- Re: Coded: Story: C Gameplay: A So yeah. If you've already seen the hd cutscenes, then I don't think days is really worth the money. If you want more insight to the story, watch the days section of Everglow's kh timeline series on KZread. They did a fantastic job. I absolutely recommend Re: Coded, my third favourite game gameplay-wise behind kh2 and kh3. But obviously, the story really isn't that great.

SO COOL!!!!! Roxas will always and forever be my favorite character of all time. Like what someone said, he is that angsty edgy teen. Him, Cloud, Ragna, Riku, Shadow the Hedgehog, Asch the Bloody. Those are my favorite characters from gaming. They inspire me to create an edgy character.
