Video Chapters:

1:48 - Prime
3:07 - Base Colours
9:37 - Light & Shade
28:56 - Finishing Touches
Alternative Hair Recipes:
For Erza's hair I used a gradient that used Doombull Brown (GW) as the main mid-tone, and I mixed some Naggaroth Night (GW) into the darker areas, and I mixed a little white and some Yriel Yellow for the frontal highlights. I then used a shade of Agrax Earthshade (GW) and Druchii Violet (GW). I finished the hair off with a few manual highlights at the front using the upper end of the gradient (Doombull Brown with some white and yellow).
For Allister's hair I used a gradient of Deck Tan (VMC) as the main tone, with some white added for the lighter sections, and some Dark Sea Blue (VMC) and Black (VMC) mixed in for the darker areas. I didn't use a shade for Allister's hair as the base colour was thin enough to nicely articulate the texture on its own.
Paint List:
Mechanicus Standard Grey (GW)
Administratum Grey (GW)
Fire Dragon Bright (GW)
Cadian Fleshtone (GW)
Naggaroth Night (GW)
Dark Sea Blue (VMC)
Bugman's Glow (GW)
Titanium White (S)
Yriel Yellow (GW)
Cold Grey (VMA)
Dead White (VMA)
Deck Tan (VMC)
Black (VMC)
Drakenhof Nightshade (GW)
Lamenters Yellow (GW)
Sybarite Green (GW)
Casandora Yellow (GW)
Steel Legion Drab (GW)
Rhinox Hide (GW)
Nuln Oil (GW)
Black Metal (SC)
Ivory (VMC)
Inktense Black (SC)
Screamer Pink (GW)
Doombull Brown (GW)
Lahmian Medium (GW)
For this tutorial I mostly used a Rosemary and Co. Series 33 Size 2 brush, except for the initial wet blending where I was using a Windsor & Newton Series 7 Size 1.
Everlasting Wet Palette: www.redgrasscreative.com/ever...
Hobby Nippers by Redgrass Creative: www.redgrasscreative.com/prec...
Desk Lamp by Redgrass Creative: www.redgrasscreative.com/redg... (I actually use a larger, overhead lamp when filming, but this is a great hobby lamp for most people)
I also used Testors Dullcote matte varnish to protect the figures.

Thanks Thanasis! I'm glad the music seems to have had its intended effect :)
as an intermediate painter, I took special notice of the following: the medium that was used in the flesh-tones to slow the drying for wet-blending transitions, how the bases were handled (these are very detailed bases and it is good to see such a no-nonsense approach), how the eyes were handled. ... think I will get out my KDM figures right now!

@@Sorastro on the same note, I often found my paints to dry out before smoothly applying the paint to the skin. I'm struggling with making the skin smooth (possibly because of the Reaper HD paint. Known to dry out quick and goes chalky). Do you think the glazing medium would help reduce the drying time?
@Sorastro
5 жыл бұрын
@@zano_korellio Hi Zano! Yes - Vallejo's glaze medium has some retarder in so it does nicely slow the drying time. (Or you could just try adding some pure retarder..) :)
@zano_korellio

@@Sorastro Okay! That might be a good one to buy next time I passed Hobby Lobby or something. 40% is no joke awesome. The medium might help the paint to stop drying too soon on the brush, leaving some chalky texture on my minis (I noticed this particularly using MSP HD "stark naked" skin color)
Thank you for finally doing KDM!!! I've wanted this for so long!

Sorastro's Painting I am holding off on painting mine for the same reason. Newbie to painting but got the game months ago to play with friends. I want to paint them so badly but have specific things I want to do I am not quite up to yet.

The work you’ve done here is prob the best Ive ever seen you do. Between the minis, the effects, and even the background music, it all comes together magically. Im sitting here with my jaw open, absolutely stunned at how they look. I wish I had one tenth of your talent, I would certainly try to do all my minis and get into the hobby....but for now, I’ll just admire from afar. Hope you have a great 2018 and continue to *wow* us with your work...god bless :)

It' is amazing how do you keep improving the quality of your tutorials, I've loved the OSL and how you have kept on the colour of the skin of the shadowed areas the sense of living skin and deepness despite the dark colours. These beautiful sculpture jobs deserve a very good painting, and IMHO you have done them justice. And, as usual, a great(and a little unsettling) music. I'm wishing to see your next tutorial. BTW I wish you the best for you and yours the next year. :)

Wonderful work as always. Coming from a true newb who has yet to really start painting (but has watched a ton of your videos and just got his rosemary brushes) this one feels like a real step up in difficulty with the light source involved. Black Plague, Decent and Imp Assault all felt like tutorials for beginners, where this feels more for the intermediate. Being a huge KDM fan I think ill paint all my imp assault and decent stuff first to gain the confidence to attempt this look. Keep em coming, I can't wait to see the White Lion and Antelope interpretations.

All I can say is; wow! The lighting effect really came out nicely on those miniatures and it gives them a very isolated, vulnerable feeling to them. It took me a second or two to realize the "groundwork" on the bases was actually individual faces, which is a nice, creepy touch.
