Kingdom Come: Deliverance || "a realistic RPG"

Ойындар

Kingdom Come: Deliverance reviewers everywhere claim how realistic the game is, but certain mechanics/bugs make that claim seem funny
twitter: / ironpineapple_
twitch: / iron_pineapple
sidenote: I actually really really enjoy this game, so don't get the wrong idea. It's honestly something pretty special and unique, even if it does seem like some buggy meme game at times

    My funniest moment in gaming was with this game. I'm robbing the armorer in Rattay and i hear guards coming up the stairs of the house. There's nowhere to hide so i crouch in a corner of the room with all the loot. Then the guards start pouring in. 1,2,3... 7 guards run in to the room but none of them gets a torch out and it's almost pitch black. So for a few minutes 7 guards just pace around a really small room menacingly saying that they will find me. But they never do, eventually they give up and say "Bastard must've gotten away". When they say that i stand up, light my torch and all of them say a variation of "Oh hi Henry." And i just walk away with them. Carrying all the loot.

    I know this is old, but even in that kinda buggy state I really think it's cool that they come and investigate based on where arrows land from. Especially considering where he was standing, because getting their has some complicated patching. Personally I think it was worth every penny even if it stayed in a day one state. The passion and ambition that went into the game really was/is commendable, and I hope Warhorse keeps it up! Even if it's not with another historical game like this.

  • @kalemmackey2917

    @kalemmackey2917

    @Jay marlin Yeah, but you also have to realize the scale of it. These were all experienced and accomplished game devs, but they were still indie as hell. Not to mention the engine they were using was hardly fit to purpose. Warhorse has talked about how cryengine is not great for large scale battles with advanced AI and how they struggled to get what few big battles exist in the game to work. And they didn't leave it in nearly as bad a shape as we got it. The same can't be said for more established studios like BethSoft, having rereleased Skyrim like four times now and never tried to optimise or bugfix it.

    @@Desh681 It's an amazing game. I'd personally put it in the same ranks as Fallout New Vegas, Mass Effect, and Shenmue. It's very challenging though. Some people didn't like that, and when it first came out there were too many glitches, but the major ones have been patched. The worst glitches you come across now are just the funny ones. I can tolerate it since Warhorse is not a big company.

  • @RedFloyd469

    @RedFloyd469

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Desh681 Don't actually believe this guy. The game is mediocre. In terms of ACTUAL RPG mechanics, it isn't at all amazing in the slightest. The idea that it comes close to Fallout New Vegas and Mass Effect is absolutely ridiculous. The combat is unique, but that's about it. It often feels incredibly disconnected, with hits literally not connecting like they are supposed to, shields not doing what they are supposed to do, the lock-on system not working properly in combat with multiple enemies (so basically in 3/4 of all combat situations in this game). The endless amount of glitches, bugs and game crashes that still plague the game to this very day, despite all the "patches", are a serious problem that have ruined my experience on multiple occasions. Fallout New Vegas stands out as having unique factions, replay-ability, incredibly story-telling and world building with an incredibly variety of ways to approach quests and dialogue. In KCD, there are no factions, there is basically no replay-ability for any meaningful reason other than to get a trophy or two (honestly, replaying the game does nothing in terms of story or world-building, so don't bother.), the story-telling becomes cliché with a meaningless and unnecessary "plottwist" that could have been handled better but just falls flat, there are basically one or two ways to approach most quests, being boiled down to "talk to multiple guys" or "talk to one guy and skip all the rest". There are also basically no consequences to any choice you make other than townsfolk not "liking" you and maybe not willing to talk to you if you are actively hated. But all of that can be forgiven if it wasn't for the elitist attitude at Warhorse studios regarding it's incredibly bad Saving System. Because you see, it turns out that because some players choose to rely heavily on "save-scumming", this means, in WH studio's mind, that if you remove player freedom in this regard, somehow the game will be better. Somehow. In some way. I guess. After all, we now live in the post-dark souls world where games need to be "hard" and "unforgiving". Even though most people don't actually understand how this should be translated into challenging and FUN game-play mechanics. So instead, KCD removes "saving at all times" and replaces it with an item you have to collect or make yourself that you use to hardsave a game. After massive and deserved player complaints, they added to ability to sleepsave and save on a game exit (which doesn't actually hard-save the game). This would all be somewhat acceptable if it wasn't for the fact that the game likes to screw the player over by crashing after an hour or two, ensuring that ALL progress is lost if you didn't use a "Savior schnapps", which is the saving-item in this game. Sometimes the game plain crashes WHILE saving or while EXITING the game, hence rendering the exit-save as useless. The question has been asked repeatedly how exactly this save system makes the game more "fun". The only answer you get will be "muh realism". Because of course, in real life, we can hard-save as well and just restart whenever we want to....oh wait.... The mentality of the absolutely toxic community is that "ReAliSM" trumps entertaining gameplay, good storytelling, diverse player choices, rewarding gameplay mechanics, etc.... So if you have a massive boner for...ahem..."rpg's" ( a term that has become meaningless at this point, as a game like dark souls and pokemon and final fantasy are also "rpg's"), go for it. The incredibly slow pacing of the game due to some strange fast travel and inventory management issues will ensure you quickly reach the 300 hours of gameplay mark. It's just that these 300 hours will be spent managing your inventory and storing items and moving slowly because you are over-encumbered. Because fun. I'd like to slap silly any bastard who actually thinks that 1) Realism = entertaining, rather than that immersion=entertaining (an experience most developers do not comprehend and will get wrong time and time again.) Or that thinks that 2) This game is realistic to begin with. Or that 3) This game has role play mechanics that go deeper than either kill or use the speech option. Make of this what you will. For what it's worth. I enjoyed playing it somewhat, but at least I can actually criticize the game and look at its massive, towering flaws, instead of being a blind fanboy like most of the community.

    Magic kingdom come is fantastic and I adore it- BUT it probably isn’t for everyone. However it’s extremely fun, the combat feels great when you master it, the sheer number of skills makes it so it has fantastic replay value ( I didn’t touch stealth, lockpicking, pickpocketing, reading, drinking, herbalism, alchemy, or swords until my second and third playthroughs. The story is reasonably good- nothing that’ll blow you away but still solid and fun. I’ve never came across a game with such an incredible sense of ‘you’re an absolutely useless lump, now go and make something of yourself’ anywhere. You start the game as essentially a pathetic waste of space, and by the end you can be a god of combat who can take on anyone. Combat is notoriously challenging and unforgiving, but by the end game I took out 15+ guards in one fight with ease

    It's terrible. Don't listen to any of these biased fans...the game punishes you for not eating and for not sleeping enough, and when you sleep, it lowers your "hunger status" or whatever and you have to keep finding enough food to eat the whole fucking time. And when you try to do quests, it says you have to do it at the right time, and when you try to wait in place, you lose your sleep/nutrition status AND you will get arrested, losing hours of progress as there is no autosave (or even regular way to save, the only way to save is by quitting the game or use a very rare one-time use item). Most infuriating piece of fucking garbage I have ever played.

    This is one of the best RPG’s I’ve played in a loong time. The graphics on the PS4 pro for this are insane, and the gameplay is difficult but very rewarding. You literally have to work on every aspect of yourself to improve your skill (ie: You cant even read and you can barely win a fist fight in the beginning). 10/10 game, seriously.

    Ah oblivion. I have proof that its a massively better game than skyrim. I finished Oblivion but not skyrim. Too much shit, too serious. What about oblivion? has that lovely light tone despite the duchy being invaded by demons from hell. Skyrim? fucking dragons are attacking and all the sudden people are like "Oh fuck me life" I get the feeling them tamrielians don't understand which is more dangerous.

    Huh? yes but the idea of going through hell and back sounds much cooler than stamping on a wyvern's head and sucking its soul. Not exactly unique in terms of Lore since the septims were also Dragonborn. Though i do believe there isn't a single character in the entire elder scrolls who went through hell and back. (Not including ESO, of course) Skyrim just seemed dull and grey. Everywhere i went there will be people going "Oh the war" and never the dragons. Well, occasionally the dragons. The main threat, the dragons, and no one cares until the lesser threat, the civil war, was over. Or so i think because i just couldn't be bothered to do every single thing in Skyrim, unlike Oblivion which had much more fun quests at least to me, and a sense of humor to keep me interested. Now then... Skyrim: You start off in a rather dull carriage ride with Ulfric Racistcloak some guy who dies and that one guy who talks about the war a bit. Then you do a universe pause as you decide what you look like (Universe pause: that moment in games when the entire world just stops while you make a decision) then a bloody great wyvern attacks and you run off. Oblivion: You're in a prison with an extremely annoying git, suddenly the emperor himself goes through your cell and says you play a significant part in a thing that's about to happen. Basically, i was bored the moment skyrim started while i got to dick around in a cell in oblivion right at the start. In oblivion, people cared who you are and what you did, some would simply not tell you anything because you're infamous and vice versa if you're famous. In skyrim, it simply didn't matter that you were the arch mage of the collage of Winterhold, the listener of the Dark Brotherhood or the bloody Dragonborn, you were there, you needed something from that one guy, he says ok, help me first and you're on your way. Oblivion is better. Now about those meme's, please do send me some links. I am DZ. This part is edited.

    @@DZ-1987 Dude, I played both of those games. Bah I played Morrowind. Oblivion had horrendous storyline written by someone who obviously was in elementary school. Even Skyrim had more to show off when it came down to writing. The only decent quests in Oblivion were Dark Brotherhood quests. Oblivion intro, dude you forgot entire tunnel part, where you walk very slowly after Emperor and his incompetent guards who got attack by Mythic Dawn. Let's get real, ever since TES III there is some longer intro to TES games. Morrowind - off the boat, then beaurocracy, then you are free to be off to Balmora. Oblivion - first boring poorly written illogical speech by Emperor + silly remarks by other inmate, then boring walking as shadow to Emperor dude and his bodyguards, and only by end of that dumb dungeon you are free. Skyrim - carriage ride with talking dudes, destination point + attack from dragon, escape out of Helgen, you are free to go. Oblivion was like mental asylum, and the identity ? Dear Nor was I tired by lack of originality. Everything was like ripped from LotR movies. Everything. Even damn legion started to look like wanna be Gondor troops. It could be any other game then TES game. And that was NOT why I buy TES games. Aside maybe from very few quests, majority of them in Oblivion were quite damn boring. I was especially appaled by ongoing 'we are the good guys !' everywhere else in factions like damn Thieves Guild. Aside from that village with people turning into ghoulish creatures and worshipping something in ground, I don't recall much of locations in Oblivion. In Skyrim on the other hand I can name quite few curious locations with nice background stories going on. Well Oblivion rampant AI actually made quite meaningless about whatever you achieved before. Should I mention ending for Oblivion which was 'well, duuuuh you were only babysitter entire game. Real hero is that brat you babysitted. Get lost'. I still remember how me and my brother laughed at Bruma's "army" to retake it. So ... the big army is made from 12 guards. LOL. Oblivion was great for laughing, because unintentionally it was so retarded to a point of being hysterical. Aha. Oblivion broke combat and inventory - hello 'your progress is meaningless' by absurd level scalling + 'your items are worthless pffft' by level scalling giving mere bandit a full ebony set in no time. The only two good parts from mechanics which Oblivion had - were horses with own pricing and stats, and the fact that you could have weapon draw out and STILL use spells while having weapon in hand. Oblivion was bastard sequel to franchise, and massive letdown. It was as if everyone in Bethesda had lost their collective minds while trying to create this game. Certainly the writing team and artistic direction team were absent during that production. And I guess they left some elementary school student to play with programming AI. PS: You do realize that Alduin was feasting on souls right ? So it first would with resurrected by him buddies kill you, and then he would devour even your soul in afterlife. Now I have NO clue why Dagon was doing what he was doing in Oblivion, probably something like Molag Bal's Planemeld, but I genuielly DON'T recall Oblivion ever explaining what was the big deal for Dagon to get onto Nirn. Dagon would enslave your soul. Not devour it unlike Alduin who was like godly dragonic pest. Damn it, the only reason why Alduin appeared by time of Skyrim, was because he was literally kicked via Elder Scrolls into future by ancient Nords who were unable to kill him so they kicked him into future to get ridd of him. Being Dragonborn is very rare. And back in the day when Alduin and buddies ruled, the only Dragonborn was actually dragonic priest - so he was helping them, and that was Miraak.

    The flying bug was a serious issue, but they fixed it like the day after discovery. Then there's the halberd bug, which drastically lowered your performance in cities the longer you stayed in said city (this was permanent for the playthrough), it takes ~24 hours of regularly traveling too and from the city, before it becomes a serious issue. Also, there where heaps of halberds EVERYWHERE. On console they had loads of performance related bugs, most of them unavoidable. Sadly. I generally wouldn't recommend the game on console. Nowadays you can still run into minor bugs (due to the way clipping works), but they've fixed the consequences, example: You execute a move that makes you end up clipped a bit inside a slope (takes some effort to do, or lots of luck). Back in the day this would've launched you high up into the air and you'd fallen to your doom. Nowadays you'll just fall from like the head level of the enemy and take no damage. I REALLY like the game, but it's an RPG with focus on the "R". There are lots of ways to exploit the system and get strong quickly (like looting stuff you should have no knowledge about or grinding in weird ways). You have to stay within the constrains of your character, or you'll ruin it for yourself. A "noble" wanderer wouldn't suddenly start punching cows, go to a specific grave, dig it up and steal a bow from it, just to T-bag an old dude in a penis hat.

    This. I started playing a few weeks ago and none of this happened to me. Only real bugs I found were this one time when a vilager got ricochetted up like 10 meters out of nowhere, but he landed with no injuries and carried on his day like nothing happened. And the other time was when I got off my horse and died for no reason after an hour and a half of unsaved gameplay. I think it might have got to do with the spot I got off the horse though, as there was a wooden pillar holding a small roof to the side and my char just got off on top of it.
