Use a bridle with a snaffle bit. Clip a lungeing line to the snaffle ring on the offside. Pass the lunge line right around the horse's hindquarters and hold it.Lead the horse as the soldier is doing from the nearside. Urgh. do NOT use a bit or this method. First of all it is abusive, second many horses were harmed due to this shit when fighting this. Simply no. Give the soldiers training in loading horses. All you need is ONE well-educated soldier that knows how to load a horse. Lunges are for beginner riders and are not reliable - good equestrians are though. Use a ground whip (like a FLECK, not a riding whip which will be both too short and harmful, and we do need the string attached to gently touch with the string, not the stick), take the horse aside from the trainer. Stand in front of the horse. Gently and softly (!) tip the horse on top of its croup, where there is a trigger point that will result in the horse stepping forward. Reward the horse, give confirmation, double check and try again 2-3 times. Should work nicely. Then go towards the trailer. Always keep calm. Correct the horse gently if it tries to break, turn or lead to a side. It is okay if the horse goes to a halt. Once the horse is at halt and straight in front of the trailer, softly tip the trigger point again. If the horse does a step forward, reward, it may go as many steps as it likes, but if it tries to change direction, stop and gently correct. The horse may back down, gently follow, but do not let it turn away, correct it then. The horse will soon learn that the sooner it gets in the trailer, the sooner it gets to it. Repeat until the horse is in the trailer. Do not stop until the horse is in the trailer. First time may take minutes (or more, if the horse is old and the behavior was enforced in the past), but the next times will get fast very soon :D Most important lesson is for the rider to stay calm and confident. Works with every horse apart from those that brutally attack humans. Oh. And never use food as reward until the horse is successfully loaded in the trailer. The food is jackpot, verbal confirmation is key. Oh. And never ever use force unless the horse uses force against you.

Trucks deliver white goods, household furniture etc. B) Why was the lorry so far from the building, parked where a large shadow ( looking like a black hole to the horse) was created over the entrance to the lorry.? C) The horse had to walk between crowds who were behind a flimsy barrier. Unless there was a VERY good reason the lorry should have been parked closer to the building so the horse could walk straight up the ramp without all the palaver of the crowds to upset it, umbrellas waving around, dogs so close etc...calm and quiet would have been far more appropriate.

Good job, they just trained the horse NOT to go in the horse box. (Actually, I've watched enough of these videos to see these horses are not very well trained at all, which rather surprises me.) First of all, they should have had the back towards the sun so the sun was shinning into the box so the horse could see inside, and it wouldn't look like a black hole to him. Then you don't try to push or pull a horse in with butt ropes or clasped hands behind. He is a 1200 to 1400 lb. animal, and if he doesn't want to move, YOU can't MAKE him move! You have to make your idea his idea, so you have to make it uncomfortable for him NOT to enter the box. You don't have to hurt him, but just keep prodding him gently yet incessantly on the sides, where your legs cue him when riding. He already knows that means to go forward, so keep it up until he moves forward, then stop immediately and let him know he did good, that is what you wanted. Then if he doesn't continue to go all the way in, you do it again. He soon learns that to get rid of the incessant poking he simply had to move forward into the box. Going in the box gives him relief.

Parking in the middle of such a wide-open space and headed straight into the sunlight was a mistake imo before they re got the horse out of the stable, I know that it’s hard with so many gawkers around making noise and getting in the way but they need to park alongside something solid to reinforce the optics of the ramp gates. Also for whatever reason and having watched this performance before (not this one as yet!) the Troopers seem to have been taught to load on one side of the ramp, imo aiming the horse at the middle works better, they feel safer. I don’t mind offering a little food on occasion but I wouldn’t make a habit of it and certainly wouldn’t put it on the ramp, especially when other horses are travelling, they’ll all start refusing to move. I’d take the horse somewhere quiet when time isn’t as much of an issue and practice. Failing all else use an easy-loader. Edit. Forgot to mention, make sure that the travel boots fit snugly but not tightly, too many have saggy Velcro and end up like Norah Batty’s Stockings, they don’t like things flapping around their legs, I put mine on right next to the box and straight on, not walk from the stables with them slipping ever further down the legs. Finally, move the circus audience out of sight and out of earshot, they’re a pita. Edit 2. I’ve watched it and want to add that keep taking him in and out is just adding to the problem as is giving him too long a run-up, he has time to make up his mind to play up.

You’re swinging the camera around so fast it’d make someone seasick. As someone who operated a tv camera you need to slow down your movements. Look at how you’re cutting the view off , really take notice of what you’re filming.

I just feel bad for the horse and the soldiers because even tho they try with all the people watching and all the noise and too why didn't they try bringing one of the horses out and had them two reload together. The horse may not be use to doing things by its self.

I don't understand why there are so many behavior problems with the horses of the King's/Queen's Guard. You would think an elite outfit like this would have their horses and handlers adequately trained before appearing in public. I've seen dozens of videos showing behavior problems. Teaching a horse to load is not rocket science!

In which case it should not have been loaded in front of an audience!! Also, handlers of horses are obliged to wear head protection as horse can react at any given time to it's surroundings. Evry owner of a horse wears head protection when leading a horse.

The King’s Guard don’t load horses at all to my knowledge since they are infantry and only the officers ride. The King’s Life Guard on the other hand do it all the time. This is not a ‘trailer’ I can’t see the sides but it’s usually an Oakley Horsebox, the best-built, safest and most comfortable box in the U.K. if not the world.
