“Spousal maintenance” should be granted by the one causing the separation or wrong doing in a relationship…. Not by the person making more money. It’s terrible that we have a society that punishes people that make better life and career choices. “Who cares if your spouse cheated on you every day. You make more money so you have to pay THEM.” Terrible broken system.

Absolutely disagree. Spousal maintenance is meant to ensure that the poor spouse isn’t basically made homeless and less destitute in a divorce. It’s not permanent and has requirements that the receiving spouse look for and find employment. However, this can be particularly difficult for spouses who decided to stay at home and not work to take care of their kids. I’m not gonna say it’s perfect, but your proposal would be harmful. Also, it would be so annoying for the court to have to investigate who is the spouse who instigated the break up. I fear consequence would be people would stay in abusive relationships so that they couldn’t be on the hook for ending a relationship and forced to pay spousal support, even if they obviously couldn’t afford it because they are the spouse who is less earning.

It's complicated cause you are correct. But in many cases, the woman marries the man and has kids and really gives up any chance to make good money or have a career. Then they can be broken up for what ever reason then the lady is screwed. But it's complicated cause you run into dead beat cheating moms and all kinds of situations. He doesn’t have to pay her though.. no judge said he has to pay her. He has made the DECISION to pay her all this time despite being the sole contributor to their bills and lifestyle. Definitely dont think it was right of him to be asking for money but its his own fault that he’s paying her.

I think this is very confusing to people from outside the US. What the hell is spousal support?! And why TF does his wife have the right to an allowance every week? You're both adults, you can both get a job and support yourself! You're the wife, not the child! No one owes anything to anyone! His wife doesn't even seem to have kids! Why is she not working? What is she doing all day? If one partner decides to stay home to take care of the kids, yes, this person gets money from the other person for everything needed (you're one family afterall) but when you get divorced, you're no longer the partner, so you get child support and that's it

Being petty for attention is effectively shooting yourself in the foot. Hire a private investigator and find out if she's actually cheating or not, then find out what legal action you should take. It doesn't seem like you have a prenup in place so you're gonna have to dish out a few bucks in spousal support, but proving infidelity may lower that support (depending on what state you're in). Whatever you do, don't knock her up and you might wanna move quickly before anyone else does because many states will leave you on the hook for child support whether it's yours or not 🤨😕

Laws are really funny and you'd be surprised at what actually is and isn't legal. Laws aren't always based on common sense. That's why even the best law students often fail the bar exam at least once.

This feels like harassment.

Something is definitely missing from this story. I know that some roles are portrayed by actors but please make it make sense. No sane woman who is shown true love and affection and emotional security in her home will behave like this. That's about 98% of women. At almost 40k a month her financial needs are well met. About the husband is he truly affectionate or does he laud his money over her behind closed does? Does he listen to her needs and issues or is it only that she should be his emotional support? Does he like socializing or does he expect her to stay at home with him only...shut away from the rest of the world? He thinks she's cheating, is he any good in the bedroom, after all, a lion cannot be dethroned unless he loses to a better lion..lol. and finally did he try to buy a "party girl" from the beginning knowing that she was technically "out of his league and community property" in the mistaken hope that he could change her once they got married? Too many parts are missing...plus if he is an actor, I hope he doesn't give up his day job...pretty unconvincing acting skills ..ijs

Women in the workforce didn't make it so that we have to work 1-2 jobs either. Thats a very ignorant view to have. It's because people aren't getting paid wages that can help them live. It's really not that hard. Also, congrats, he's doing his job as a human. Not just a man, because women work and can be a breadwinner too, sir. Between illegal immigration and women entering the workforce, the number of employees in the workplace effectively doubled. That many employees aren't needed, so wages stagnated or fell. No one wants to talk about that though because that spits in the face of "progress". A man with a high school diploma and a skill used to be able to provide a middle class life for his family. Now, good luck finding a wife without a bachelor's degree.

But it's not a "law" or "requirement". Like I said, clearly, he wants more affection and time than she's willing to spare him, so he should just divorce her then and find someone else. Also, once again, thats not the case. Wages haven't "fallen" they have just stayed the same for the past 20+years, with, what? Like a 10 cent raise? Meanwhile, everything else increased. That didn't have to do with illegal immigrants or women. Illegals can't even work proper jobs FOR minimum wage. So whatjobs are the taking that would cause the minimum wage to stagnate? None. And women joining the workforce didn't change a damn thing either. Women have been in the work force since WW II and if you actually do your research it didn't stagnate raises. Actually, the minimum wage kept increasing until 2009 when it stopped and hasn't shifted since. But the prices of everything else has increased. Thats not just the doing of illegal immigrants and women. That's the doing of the government and companies. 😐 Also, so what if a women has a bachelor's degree? Nothing wrong with an educated woman.
