Is it weird that I find this film kind of underrated today? The popularity of the MonsterVerse Kong is nice to see put King Kong in his own set of adventures like the Showa Godzilla adventures, but it takes a LOT of the attention off Kong 2005. While this film is perhaps longer than it should be; the early New York scenes, the boat voyage and parts of the island could be shortened and trimmed, but there is still such a grand cinematic vision, never too "dark & gritty" to not have fun, and with a sincere emotional heart.

One thing i absolutely adore with the 2005 king kong film is how after the film was released, they came out with a book documenting all the wildlife we never got to see in the movie (and the ones we did see) I believe a lot of the creatures were unused concepts, but they did an amazing job making the island feel like an actual living breathing ecosystem. While the monsterverse interpretation of King kong is my favourite version of the character, Peter Jackson's Skull island is my favourite interpretation of Kongs Home.

This movie is 20 years old and still better than every other Kong movie and most Godzilla movies.

I was in 5th grade when this came out and saw it with my cousin

Peter Jackson’s King Kong will always my favorite childhood movie. 2005 Kong will always be the real movie . 2017 Kong sucks

Such a classic that 2005 one is

I still think the 1976 Kong was much better and far more fun; but my opinion of the 2005 Kong is slightly higher than when I saw it in 2005. The film is too long: the scene of the charge of the dinosaurs was at least twice as long as it needed to be.
