This is powerful. I remember when I heard of MLK'S murder. it was one of my 1st childhood memories. I was 4. My grandmother was babysitting my brothers & I while my parents worked. My mother came home from her night shift in tears. She was clutching the NY Daily News with the picture of MLK on the cover. She screamed to my grandmother, " they killed him mother ". They both hugged each other in tears. it was the first time I ever saw them cry. I cried because they cried not understand why.

Jane Doe JANE DOE, I WAS IN FIRST GRADE AT P.S. 191 , NOW PAUL ROBESON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN BEDSTUY BROOKLYN, NY. OVER THE PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM, DURING " MILK AND COOKIES SNACK TIME, AFTER MATH AND READING LESSON" CAME THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. WAS KILLED. I BECAME SO HYSTERICAL, BECAUSE IN MY GRANDMOTHER, AND PARENTS' HOME, THERE WAS ALWAYS THESE THREE IMAGES, FRAMED, HANGING SIDE BY SIDE:. BLACK!/WHITE JESUS, PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY, AND REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. I HAD READ HIS LETTER FROM A BIRMINGHAM JAIL AT THE YOUNG INNOCENT AGE; AND IN MY LITTLE 1 ST GRADER MIND, HE WAS NOT JUST THE FATHER OF BLACK PEOPLE, HE WAS LIKE JFK, THE FATHER OF CARING ABOUT THE RIGHTS OF ALL MANKIND. MY MOTHER HAD TO LEAVE WORK EARLY TO COME PICK ME UP, AS THAT WAS THE POLICY BACK IN THE DAY, YOU CRY, OR ARE INCONSOLABLE-- YOUR PARENT HAS TO COME PICK YOU UP. NEEDLESS TO SAY, MY MOTHER, ORIGINALLY RAISED DOWN SOUTH, WITH 4 CHILDREN TO CARE FOR, WAS NOT HAVING IT. WILL NEVER FORGET HOW UPSET I WAS, AND STILL TO THIS DAY, AT THE SENSELESS ASSASSINATIONS OF JFK, MLK, AND MONTHS LATER ROBERT F. KENNEDY, RFK. I HAD SCRAPE BOOKS I PASTED JFK, MLK, RFK, AND GEROGE MCGOVERN, HEROS TO ME DURING MY FORMATIVE YEARS.

Alot of people don't know that Robert Kennedy was the voice for Mexicans as well! Those white people were completely threatened that a powerful white man was going to raise us to their level. It's really sad, he would have helped us all so much had he lived. Everyone knew he was going to win the presidency. He was a threat.

+New Jack Swing Yes! It's getting harder to deny these days. I think that a lot of people would hate to admit or believe that all the protests & marching has been in vain. We still don't have equal rights. We have even less than we had then as far as our own establishments and institutions. They bombed Tulsa, so it's going to be a real struggle either way!

My mother (originally from Harlem) was living in the Bronx and 7 months pregnant with my older brother when MLK was assassinated. She told me there was a riot. The riots in NYC after his death must have been on a low scale because I never hear anyone talk about them

This is powerful indeed! I wasn't born when Dr. King's assassination. took place. I was born in the mid 70's. I am thankful for what he did even though I am anti-integration because I walked into burning houses called public schools filled with people who didn't want me there. I nearly dropped out because of their beastly behavior. When he started talking about the reality of the human condition they killed him!

A true man of God that lived during one of the darkest times of our great Nation. We as a Nation lost some of the greatest leaders that our Nation has ever known during this time. MAY GOD have mercy upon our Nation today and perform a miracle that well ultimately bring our Nation together! Only God can do this if it is in His will, if not then what He is doing is bringing His will about in His time to bring to the close of the history of this world. God is good and is love and He alone is Sovereign!!!! Thank you Father!!!!

I rock with X before King bc I think his plan would've have benefited us more then Kings plan could've been implemented. Build ourselves up then we can rock with others until then stick to ourselves and defend ourselves... Can't just roll up in Chinatown they have the money, defense and the power of politicians in their pocket.

@@frankiejabonbumyers4151 King never advocated friendship with the white oppressor. For the "Uncle Tom" title it is senseless when it comes to King. An Uncle Tom does not receive death threats for years, is not thought of as a black militant, , is not being surveilled and phone tappes by the FBI and in the end assassinated. A close study of King, actually even a superficial one, shows that the "Uncle Tom" view of him is based on feelings rather than facts.

Although the 2nd Klan era, (1915-1944) and the 3rd Klan era, (1946-present) were both born in Atlanta, you never heard MLK refer to his hometown in a way which would have given the average person the idea that it was the nation's foremost " Klan Cesspool " of the 20th century, despite that it was very much merited.

King's dream almost directly lead Black People to hoping dreaming and wanting more. After the Montgomery bus boycott and voting rights act of 1964 Black People start seeing together and unmoved we could do anything. Those of you so big on Malcolm X over Martin... for one Malcolm never had a confrontation with Whites didn't kick ass nor get his ass kicked, no jails (for civil right purposes). He was a great orator/speaker, but no action besides stirring us up "in words" and opening a few mosques here and there. King's commitment was evident by the action of his Life and Death. Lastly, he wanted great things for the People, starting with Faith, Family, and Education he pushed that agenda all his days.
