Self taught by watching a guy that was self taught (and also learned on an upside down right handed guitar), there's another excellent guitarist many don't know of who plays with his guitar flipped but unlike Hendrix... the strings are even upside down, thinnest at the top, it boggles my mind how a person can learn chord shapes with the strings in the wrong position! That blues guitarist if you're curious is Eric Gales. It's sheer laziness to not learn how to play, yet here I am. If I spent as much time actually practicing as I do searching for killer deals on mid-grade used guitars, I'd be able to play by now! Alas, the self-discipline is lacking. Ren is excellent and dedicated to every aspect of his creations, obviously I can't put him in Hendrix, EVH, or Gales level on a guitar... but he has so many other strengths that I don't think they have... far too much talent for a single human, so unfair!!!

I grew up more with hard rock/metal, so I'd add Jerry Cantrell to the list of self-taught masters (though he has gotten praise) of course I had heard plenty of Chicago, I had to look up Terry. Agreed, an incredible artist and in the top 5 saddest demise stories! I checked out Tommy, while again not exactly someone I'd listen to, definitely deserves the spotlight! I love the first comment I saw on his Guitar Boogie song... "I learned the whole thing by slowing it down and copying it over and over again over two weeks. I can now play the first two notes really well."

@@Prozak63 Glad to see anyone else that has found Eric Gales!!! He has nearly as much tone in his fingers as BB King, SRV or Bonnamassa (sp?). One great collab is with Gales and Larkin Poe, if you like a lap steel... check out Larkin Poe! Of course, my musical taste has grown and I've torn down most of my music snob walls! It helps that multiple decades before my birth born so many incredible artists in multiple genres so I was never terribly strict about what I'd check out, just more interested in loud, fast, and heavy through my early years.

You'd be surprised how many ppl around the world learn other languages from watching TV in that language. I learned about this years ago so Ive had my son watch Spanish cartoons, or sesame Street in Spanish since he was 3 and I swear he knows a lot of Spanish now. He's autistic and mostly non verbal but I watch him watching shows in Spanish and he smiles or gets concerned, just his facial expressions show he understands what is being said.

IMO, when he stands, he's standing against his inner critic. But, also "summoning" the strength, that has been beaten out of him, to not allow his chronic illness to hold him back (split between psych, neurological, physical). For anyone with any chronic disability, it's a daily battle... that we often consider an UN-ability, rather than a hurdle, which everyone has to some extent. I know the dance, been dancing it a long time now!

Self taught by watching a guy that was self taught (and also learned on an upside down right handed guitar), there's another excellent guitarist many don't know of who plays with his guitar flipped but unlike Hendrix... the strings are even upside down, thinnest at the top, it boggles my mind how a person can learn chord shapes with the strings in the wrong position! That blues guitarist if you're curious is Eric Gales. It's sheer laziness to not learn how to play, yet here I am. If I spent as much time actually practicing as I do searching for killer deals on mid-grade used guitars, I'd be able to play by now! Alas, the self-discipline is lacking. Ren is excellent and dedicated to every aspect of his creations, obviously I can't put him in Hendrix, EVH, or Gales level on a guitar... but he has so many other strengths that I don't think they have... far too much talent for a single human, so unfair!!!

@@Prozak63 We're about 13 years apart (assuming the 63 in your name is your birth year). I grew up more with hard rock/metal, so I'd add Jerry Cantrell to the list of self-taught masters (though he has gotten praise) of course I had heard plenty of Chicago, I had to look up Terry. Agreed, an incredible artist and in the top 5 saddest demise stories! I checked out Tommy, while again not exactly someone I'd listen to, definitely deserves the spotlight! I love the first comment I saw on his Guitar Boogie song... "I learned the whole thing by slowing it down and copying it over and over again over two weeks. I can now play the first two notes really well."

@@Prozak63 Glad to see anyone else that has found Eric Gales!!! He has nearly as much tone in his fingers as BB King, SRV or Bonnamassa (sp?). One great collab is with Gales and Larkin Poe, if you like a lap steel... check out Larkin Poe! Of course, my musical taste has grown and I've torn down most of my music snob walls! It helps that multiple decades before my birth born so many incredible artists in multiple genres so I was never terribly strict about what I'd check out, just more interested in loud, fast, and heavy through my early years.

@@Mike_H76 blues great Elizabeth cotten was another who played upside down, plucking the high notes with her thumb etc, they called her style "cotten-picking".
Kinda enjoying squinting through the haze at Ren videos with ya Dotta. Didn't think I would after the dis but I think this venue lets more of the person show through than the persona and that works in your favor.

just started, im here to see if you came to your senses sir. im at the end, i have much respecr for you sir. i was angry before when you dissed him,, im happy to see this. i have to say, i feel fiercly for Ren. i heard this song the day i choose to end it all, i went to the train, and looked for a song to listen too before i was gonna toss it all in front of said train. i saw the thumbnail and it felt like how i felt inside. broken and old and peeling and crazy. i sat down on the platform and cried like id never cried. this song literally saved my life. i got up and walked home and got my shit together. its been a process, but im here because of this song.

You'd be surprised how many ppl around the world learn other languages from watching TV in that language. I learned about this years ago so Ive had my son watch Spanish cartoons, or sesame Street in Spanish since he was 3 and I swear he knows a lot of Spanish now. He's autistic and mostly non verbal but I watch him watching shows in Spanish and he smiles or gets concerned, just his facial expressions show he understands what is being said.
FWIW, I don't know your songs (other than the Ren dis-track of old, which was better than may have been gauged by the cold reception it generally seemed to have received, understandable given the unsolicited attack on the newfound idol of so many), but I've now seen a few of your reactions to Ren's songs. It's obvious to me, despite your seemingly being interminably high, that you are a smart dude, probably one of the sharpest reactors I've seen. Hope you're able to translate the potential into what you are seeking.

Ren as Charles Xavier..., yeah, he would probably kill it!
IMO, when he stands, he's standing against his inner critic. But, also "summoning" the strength, that has been beaten out of him, to not allow his chronic illness to hold him back (split between psych, neurological, physical). For anyone with any chronic disability, it's a daily battle... that we often consider an UN-ability, rather than a hurdle, which everyone has to some extent. I know the dance, been dancing it a long time now!
