In Ren's acoustic version he's giving homage with the new opening to Ini Kamoze (In the streets they call it MURDER) but right after that Ren plays/sings the riff to Barrington Levy's "Murderer" including all the scatting Levy does in his version of the original before Ren goes into his own song "Murderer". Ren also gives homage to Dr. Dre with the guitar riff from Dre's "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. (probably because this was shot in LA while Ren was on holiday). Also Ren say's (Beotch) in this version instead of the word (Bitch) which is in his original release, as a tip of the hat to Snoop who was the 1st to coin that word. As for guitar solo that Ren plays before the Dr. Dre guitar riff, I believe that was an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences, Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt, a famous Jazz guitarist, who if I'm not mistaken, was actually the 1st to introduce Jazz to the UK. This is very much a 30-40's guitar riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music. Reggae, Ska and Jazz & Soul, are very big influences in Ren's music. 💖 Cheers! ✌😁

Since you love classic hip hop like I do, I highly recommend Ren's latest release, HALFTIME (Nas Retake). Much like what Ren did in giving homage to the Beastie Boys in "What You Want" he does for one of our living greats in hip hop, NAS. He takes Halftime from Nas's iconic 1st album Illmatic and pay's homage to the man himself, giving this legend his well deserved flowers. It's 🔥🔥🔥👍

Ren is just different 😂 The magic about his acoustic versions is how free and playful he is. Like they have obviously rehearsed it, but I don’t think Ren is 100% set on all the runs or scatting he spices it up with, yet every little thing he throws in there still sounds so damn good. Agreed that's what I think I enjoy about watching others listening to a track for the first time.

I’d have to look at your catalog of what you’ve done but I would suggest “power” or “Genesis” or some big push stuff which is the band he was in until he went to Canada for treatment
