King Charles Reveals His First Official Portrait Since the Coronation
King Charles has unveiled the first completed official portrait of himself since The Coronation, painted by renowned artist Jonathan Yeo.
The portrait was commissioned in 2020 to celebrate the then Prince of Wales’s 50 years as a member of The Drapers’ Company.
The portrait depicts His Majesty wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards, of which he was made Regimental Colonel in 1975.
The canvas was carefully considered to fit within the architecture of Drapers’ Hall and the context of the paintings it will eventually hang alongside. Report by Matthew Covell.

It was interesting hearing the painter acknowledge that this portrait was painted through the time of the late Queen's passing. How difficult it would have been to continue with that work given the circumstances. The butterfly was an inspired motif, given this "job" change. The fact that it was suggested by His Majesty shows his sensitivity to artistic interpretation. His Majesty is a talented water colour artist. Wow! I really do love this portrait. I really do. Initially, I had difficulty, but once the lines became apparent, I fell in love with the power and kindness it portrays. I love it. I love the tones and their representations. Wow. I wish I could see this in person. Really well done. It speaks. Wonderful.
I love it !!! Everything about it !!! Magnificent yet touching in emotion ! Bravo!!!
I love it! It looks epic, like an Arthurian legend coming out of the mists. ✨

@@cloudgary7596 I disagree, but that's the great thing about art, we see different things.

@@janetclaireSays well unfortunately, if you really listen to the reaction of the people, you’re in the minority.
A perfect representation of Charles ancestry of thieves and murderers!

Yes its sad. But this is not as bad as the Diana statue…how they couldnt make it look anything close to resembling her beauty. This portrait however of the king’s likeness is spot on!

You might want to look at all his other art before talking about things
Looks like an omen ala The Shining 😢
Hope the King likes red.
Powerful red says something About the Prince of Wales Who's now the king 👑 I love it I must confess It's something different For our eyes to caress 😶🌫️ It could have been green!! But Buckingham's colour Still suits our departed Queen 👑
Lots of red, but I still like it because it focuses on his face. Love the way King Charle's eyes are so kind and compassionate looking.
Love this, very dramatic!

Is it.
I think the piece is very striking but also perfectly encapsulates The Kings prescribes and power. I also think it’s embarrassing that most people see a red portrait and immediately think ‘ it must be satanic!’, it’s a very simpleminded interpretation
I like his face. Is gentle and expressive. The look from distance is even better . Overall I can say that is a good portrait of King Charles.
