I don't think you are looking at the whole picture here. Ted knows that Jimmy doesn't agree with him on pretty much anything, and knew exactly what he was getting himself into by agreeing to do something like this with Jimmy. But both guys, being grown ups, can still have a laugh together instead of just hating each others guts because of their political differences. It's akin to agreeing to be on a roast. The whole point was to donate some money to charity and have some laughs in the process. I don't think either one was taking it very seriously and this actually showed me that Ted Cruz isn't a soulless robot like I thought lol. This is something Donnie Dipshit would never be able to agree to because he's just too much of a child.

That's exactly why Cruz agreed to do it. It's the same reason politicians started frequenting late-night shows in the early 90s I believe it was. It makes them seem like good sports and regular folks, which is good politically. Kimmel doing this only improves Cruz's image and, thus, his chances of winning re-election in November.

It is worthwhile to compare the Cruz VS Kimmel video to the Blobfish basketball video, the real man is Cruz, Kimmel is the Jackass!

8:40 Kimmel points at the crowd with a "gotcha" after the production team gets a majority left wing crowd of 5000 people. Put the crowds cheering away and Cruz destroyed him in every conversation. The only thing Kimmel could do was attack ad-hominem because he couldn't beat him in a debate (or a game of basketball). Say what you will, but Ted was nothing but a good sport here.

As much as I try to dislike Cruz, he is actually a pretty cool guy, doesn't get personal with people that try to get a raise out of him. Didn't do it with Trump, didn't do it with Triumph the insult comic dog and didn't do it here. He says his piece without attacking people on a personal level, can't hate the guy, the man has gained my respect

Does Jimmy not know any real people? My husband is a teacher and our premiums tripled under Obamacare. Cruz said out his own mouth what he believes the circumstances for covering pre-existing conditions should be, and Kimmel just didn't like that the answer wasn't meshing with his agenda. Never been a Cruz fan, but he was far more gracious, especially considering the circumstances.

Kimmel sucks at being a human and at basketball

How kimmel made himself the least lilable character in this segment is truly remarkable.

Im going to be honest I think Kimmel went too far. He started talking about Cruz’s family and insulted him to his face as well as bringing many people that didn’t like senator Cruz. Normally I love Kimmel but I think maybe he should have (if it was) clarified that it was a joke. I just think it was a little immature

Thomas Stokes false but I'm not going to get into it with someone who has already made up their mind and likely to become more entrenched in their own point of view. Besides, we all need to quit seeking division and start finding reasons to unite. Politics do not have to define an individual. I disagree with cruz's politics but I'm under the impression he's a good guy. I mostly agree with kimmel's comedy and politics but think he was rather petty during the charity event. Just unite and support. Unfortunately, our president currently thrives on division and until his supporters recognize that, we'll be hard pressed in our search for unity.

Everything in that match was planned.. ;) -- Generally these things are scripted 100%. I imagine the winner was always going to be Ted Cruz.. and for comedic effect.. Jimmy was going to be MVP even though he LOST -- (That's funny) .. He didn't get MVP because they thought he was going to win.. it wasn't left up to chance.. he got MVP because they KNEW he was going to lose. We watched X minutes of them playing when in reality they probably recorded an hour+ of them taking shots etc. I will say how he planned his words towards Cruz with Cruz really not firing back with anything of substance probably didn't go over as well as Jimmy had hoped -- OR,.. Jimmy didn't care because he believes what he believes and used (you say misused) his platform to say what he wanted to say -- but in he end 2 Charities received 10's of thousands of dollars so it's not all bad. A good rule of thumb for these types of things to remember -- If it's on television it's 99.9% scripted unless it's a live sporting event of College or professional athletes ;) Even a lot of what you see on youtube is scripted.

Meh,.. everyone 'knows' politics to one degree or another. An individuals didactic knowledge of how government works, or other historical or intricate and specific study area is relevant, of course, but not necessary to engage in a political discussion. This country was formed on "we the people, by the people, for the people" -- So that makes it a bit irrelevant how well you are versed 'politically'. Also Cops are quite LITERALLY "Political Scientists" -- yet I wouldn't qualify one of them as what you are aiming for here. (Yes, I realize some police districts don't require degree's, etc.. but a VERY popular degree for a police officer is Political Science.. and it never seems to rub off lol).

Ted Cruz the real MVP just by doing this.
