아 이거 첨봤을때 눈물 콧물 오지게 뺐었는데 사람새끼란 간사한게 그뒤로도 여태까지 그래왔듯이 살고있다. 나중에 후회하겠지..

제 나이가 딱 저물어 가는 나이......40 중반.. 돌아가신 아버지의 뒷모습과 살아오신 날들의 이미지가 보입니다..ㅠㅠ 내용을 알면서도 이 모를 눈물.... 이런 노래들이 많이 나오길....

I'm a Filipino, so I don't understand any of the song lyrics. However, I cried because of the emotion that goes with the voice and the music. Music is indeed a universal language. I offer my respect for his talent. 😊

수십번을 들었지만 매번 눈물이 글썽이게 만드는 노래입니다. 나이 80이 다 돼가시지만 아직도 손주와 자식들을 위해 억척스레 농사일 품팔이를 하시는 엄가가 넘 불쌍하고 고맙습니다. 이젠 부모님 도움이 필요없는 나이가 되었지만 한푼이라도 더 주고싶은 마음을 알기에 가슴이 너무 아픔니다. 나도 내 자식에게 좀더 주고싶은 그 마음을 알기에 더 감동적으로 다가오는 노래입니다.

I wept tears thinking about my immigrant Korean mom who worked such hard back breaking labor jobs to provide me with everything that I needed and wanted and more. I gave my mom such a hard time as a late teen and young adult. At 37 I understand my mom so much now and I will always break down with guilt for how much I took for granted. Omma saranghabnida! 😭😭😭

Oh wow, didn’t realize this happened when he was a boy. It makes the song that much more powerful because he’s basically singing to the ghost of his father (as opposed to many live memories) who was not with him long.

This song even I don’t understand what he saying but I feel it .It kinda hard to explain and what a awesome vocalist 👏👏👏👍👍👍

From the Eng translation, it is more of regrets whereas the Korean lyrics give a sense of overwhelming guilt. That is why so many of the audience are openly crying. Kim Jin Ho performed another super touching song, Saldaga (As I Live). It is a tribute song for his late band mate who committed suicide. They inserted the late bandmate voice at the tail end of the song (when they black out the light on KJH). Only place with Eng Subtitles is from the as actual Immortal Song itself. He is the last performer in that competition.

Agreed. The Korean lyrics convey better the feelings of guilt that your parents sacrificed their youths for you, and now that you're an adult, you're only realizing this now. I personally think it's the translation's fault. The original lyrics were all in 3rd person ("her blooming days were sacrificed for me," "I realized one day that I'm like him"), but the translator weirdly made it second person ("your days were sacrificed," "I realized that I'm like you"), which really takes away from the emotional impact imo.

As I live, as you live, as one lives, as we live, etc. But in the context of the song, "As You Live" is likely the best fit because it's mostly the singer addressing their lover/friend in the chorus: "As you live, when you're tired due to the sadness I caused you, until you are satisfied," "As you cry, when you are worn down, won't you remember me at least once?" Then the bridge shifts briefly into: "We'll smile reluctantly because we have no choice, We'll live on reluctantly because we have no choice," So that's maybe where one can interpret the song as "As We Live." Then the last two lines of the song are specifically "As I Live," so the title translation can keep shifting as the song goes on. But most of the time, it's "As You Live." :)

I watched this performance when they airing it on KBS world few years back, at that time my father in law just passed away, my husband doesn't known english moreover korean but when I wacthed this together with him I tell what the song's abaut and he got chock and start to sobs....what a powerful performance.....this come to my top 3 performance on imortal song... and two of it is Kim Jinho performance...

Hi Ovela, thank you for your amazing reaction, Kim Jinho is one of my favorite Korean artists. You absolutely hit the nail on the head!! The impact of his singing hits you right in the soul, he is so talented and gifted.

I love this artist so much. Every time I listen to a sad song of his I cry.. he's inhabited by music and I think that's what touches the heart.

Jin Ho sang he's groups song on another episode, its called "Saldaga" or "As I Live" - strongly recommend you watching it, its absolutely incredible.

I'm a Korean American living in Korea. This is one of Kim Jin Ho's best performance. Makes me tear every time I see this. The translation is a bit inaccurate but gets the message across. It is a song that everybody can relate to. He made this singing method popular. (Not the falsetto but the throaty part where he sings "whoa~~~" ) I play in a band and a lot of vocalists here are technical but not many can move people emotionally like this. The slow acoustic guitar mixed with the simple piano tones.... Kim Jin Ho is truly a rare and very talented artist.

Loved, loved this song and the singer!! Actually, this song is about his dad and his sacrifices for his son and family. This song was shared by a friend of mine in FB and I just LOVED it! It cut through my heart like a knife and made me miss my dad like never before! Crying buckets!!

Awesome reaction to Kim Jin-Ho's "Family Portrait", the song was dedicated to his dad who was in Heaven and intells a story that he misses having him there and regrets not being able to have a picture take with the three together. The reason he is well known he used to be with a well-known group called "SG Wannabe" who have many wonderful songs as well, the band dismembered due to a loss of one of the member Chae Dong-ha who committed suicide in 2011.

I still cry every time I watch this performance. As I live performance is even more sad

No he actually already performed this song multiple times before, a few times on TV, radio, and most of the time during his free concert at schools, hospitals and streets, but the song was not big hit, so outside of his fans, the song was not really recognized, since he didn't really promote it
