My father was continually abusive to all of us, but more especially my mother. He died at the age of 63 but when my mother sobbed at his funeral I think it was with relief. She lived for a further 24 years without him, free at last. It was almost impossible to find any refuge then. My mother was offered a room in the old workhouse in Southwell! For some reason we were brought up to believe WE should be ashamed, not him.

RB, when I was 20 in COMSUBIN I came home to hear my neighbor screaming for help. I was in the middle of eatting breakfast when I heard the commotion so I grabbed my dive knife and went next door to pay the man a visit. He never spoke again after that because I warned him if anything ever happened to that sweet lady it would be his last breath. He moved out that day without his wallet and bank card because he caused the mess now he has to pay for it in cash to his wife. The people in our village watched as he left throwing rocks the entire time. If the police wont do justice then the people in my village will see that there is justice. The old way. It's not love... it's possessiveness. It's entitlement. Parents often kill their daughters by "honor killings" in conservative societies if she steps out of their will or ways (Ex. - gets a boyfriend... divorces the man they picked for her... is revealed as a lesbian... or shows defiance) ... Some people r not meant to be parents, especially if they hold the life of their own female child w/ such misogyny. Boyfriends or husbands often face the same mentality... They view a woman as a 'possession'; a means to have sex and children... and they abuse the women to keep them under their thumb... If the women break free from their abuse or influence, they see it as the ultimate betrayal and it kills their ego & enrages the men... And they lash out in rage, fury and indignation - "If I can't have you, no one will..." It's the way they claim their 'possession'... It is misogynistic, unwarranted & evil. They see themselves as figures who have been given a huge 'injustice' by being rejected by women, and their recourse is to act violently and kill them (In their minds, a woman is 'less than' a man... and he has to reclaim his manhood because he feels 'less than' her when she leaves him or defies his will) Unless a man can assume a healthy relationship w/ a woman and they treat each other w/ respect and as equals... this trend will not dissipate, tragically. That being said, women (and girls) have to be better taught to recognize these misogynistic, narcissistic men and not get involved w/ them, romantically or otherwise. I've seen too many beautiful women fall for low lives and they end up in terrible situations.

I believe people who are emotionally unstable when a impactful event occurs stems from being raised in a toxic masculinity environment. But that excuse can going go so far because at some point they have to be unwilling to break free of that and learn how to navigate their emotions. And by emotionally unstable I mean letting their sadness transform into aggression. Yes. I am most definitely tippy toeing around this really delicate topic but I hope my point still comes across.

The problem actually starts with mothers in Italy spoiling their sons - sons grow up with a sense of entitlement and expectation that they are very special and deserve anything they want from a woman - if they don’t get it later as grown ups they throw tantrums and sometimes, as in this case, they even get violent towards their female partners. The matter is exacerbated by fathers who support this attitude of entitlement in their sons because they themselves were spoiled rotten by their mothers.

Italy has a way lower rate of femicides than many other countries that apparently don't have this culture of "mothers spoiling their sons". every death is a tragedy, said so, saying that in Italy is there a "patriarchal culture" is just not true, I was raised in Italy 40 years ago and no one ever suggested that it was ok to be violent, possessive or disrespectful to women. To me and to my circle of young friends was thought the opposite, "never beat a woman" was repeated to us many many times during our young age... in many households is the woman who is in charge for family decisions and man are already discriminated by many laws. I live in the north of Italy, I can't speak for other places, but here were I live you just can't say the culture is misogynistic nor patriarchal. My parents were from 1940's and my mother already used to have the last word on every decision in the house. In the video they say that one woman is killed every 3 days: it is misleading since that statistics refers to woman killed in general - even child killed by her mothers are included in that number - it is not what is called "feminicide", don't make confusion! The murders of a woman from an ex-partner or a family member are less that 40 each year. Even one is too much, I agree with that, but you can't say that there is a cultural issue against women in Italy, that is just propaganda from feminist groups. Checking on the numbers and you will find that Italy is one of the safest countries in the world for women. 05:10 in Italy there is a crime called HOMICIDE, why do you need to distinguish by gender? If it a woman being killed is it worst than a man murder? Are you sexist??? And, by the way, the murders of men in Italy are double than women, maybe is it worth mentioning to provide a more broad perspective.

I am an Italian person. The TVs were saying, upheld by our fascist government, that the killer did in fact ‘lose control of himself’ although he literally planned the attack on Giulia. Elena, her sister, made a very powerful statement in a far-right transmission of a typically conservative channel (although many others are becoming the same way): she said that the killer of her sister has not to be considered a “monster”, but a sane son of a patriarchal society and calling for an uproar as, also her father said, even the slightest form of abuse to - in this case a woman - is violence. …While our PM condemned activists that, during a protest demanding patriarchal cis-heteronormative society to start re-considering itself, sprayed graffiti at the entrance of an anti-abortionist clinic of an deeply homophobic organisation, which is of course backed by those in power.

Italy is a very safe place. Crimes do happen but the individuals involved are the culprits, the guilty. The overall society pursed the offender, jailed him, and is prosecuting him, that is evidence of a just society. We are 2 women and considered retiring in Italy. During our research, we learned about the macho culture in Italy and were horrified. At the time, a bill was being debated that would grant protections to women and the disabled, but it failed because it also had protections for gay people, and God forbid others are deemed as human beings deserving protection. At the same time, a friend moved to Italy but ended up leaving. One of the reasons was how she was treated as a woman. And Italy has the gall to think of itself as a better country because it's in Europe. It's no better than any other country in the global south. Its food and fashion are great, but it pretty much stops there because a plethora of countries in the global south have better laws and are more proactive towards femicides.

@topschlager7856 just look at the laws. The best way to find a country that's better on women's issues is to look at gay rights. Homophobia isn't a phenomenon on its own. It's a byproduct of sexism, misogyny, and the patriarchy. Now, that's not a guarantee of anything since women are seen as prey all over the world. There isn't a country in the world where women are 100% safe. But even when men on the street suck, legislation will indicate that the government is trying to address the problem. This is most certainly not the case on Italy. A little known fact is that the patriarchy affects men just as much or worse than women. Women bear the brunt because men defend/promote/justify their maleness on women. If there were no patriarchy, men would be free to be human beings rather than creatures obsessed with proving and defending their manliness, leaving a visible trail of women's raped, broken, and dead bodies.
