Hysteria and Appetite for Destruction - they were albums that played a major part of my teenage years, as did Among The Living. My personal favourites not mentioned - Death Angel - The Ultra Violence Death - Scream Bloody Gore King Diamond - Abigail Voivod - Killing Technology Kreator - Terrible Certainty Overkill - Taking Over Sisters of Mercy - Floodland Though not a massive fan, was happy to see my fellow country men Tigertailz mentioned. Look forward to the next podcast.

Great quote from Gappy there, "That's what it was like back in the 80s, you were a Goth or you were a metaller, you weren't both" - exactly how it was!! 🤣🤣

Another fantastic trip down memory lane. Fantastic picks from Dyl and loving the respect for Tigertailz. Both the Tailz and GnR were early introductions for me. I got into GnR on the EP release before Appetite, went to Wayahead in Derby and actually bought 2 copies. Sadly both are gone, one was swapped for a leather jacket in 88, good deal at the time 😂 needed a new one for donington that year. People forget how much of a slow burn appetite was, Geffen nearly shelved the promotion after 200,000 but decided to go with another single, enter Sweet Child. I saw the Appetite tour in Manchester 87, half empty venue but with Faster Pussycat in support it’s a top 3 gig of mine. A year later by Donington though everyone was on board. As for Tigertailz, discovered those guys early and saw the Young And Crazy tour in Derby 88, top guys and still have some letters from Pepsi. I knew the number one for 87, and I believe I’ll get the 88 one, might be a concept album.

Great info - thanks. Never really realised that the GNR album was a slow burn cos we were in at the start - totally makes sense though. Great you have letters from Pepsi - he really was a driving force of the band. Cheers for your support 🤘

Pick any of the albums mentioned plus the best of the rest but thanks Gappy as I've never heard the Malice album. Brilliant episode guys and Among The Living right up there for me and great seeing them at Donington the same year. BUT my hair was getting bigger and so were the cowboy boots so can see the path I led but did see IQ at the Astoria too that year. Some worthy mentions are Great White with Once Bitten, TNT with Tell No Tales and a favourite Helix with Wild In The Streets which had this Joe Elliott written song on it but never made it on Hysteria, interesting and of course as I mentioned IQ their album Nomzamo worthy too. Keep up the excellent work guys.

Until recently I hadn't realised how much of an impact this album had but it crops up on sooo many Internet discussions amongst 80s metallers. It certainly launched my journey!

Some brilliant calls here chaps. Testament don’t get enough credit. Brilliant band. Met them in Copenhagen once. If I remember right Chuck Billy’s missus is Irish. They’re still great! Nice shout with Tigertailz and the stories - you guys should give more anecdotes about gigs. It was really fun. Back then, you’d read about a band in kerrang, check out the album review and then rush to the record shop on Friday after school to be the first of your mates to get the record! The hype around GNR was huge and deserved at the time. Didn’t realise Dyl was such a Dokken fan - spot on. I love that band. I agree under lock and key is a better album but all the original Dokken albums are worth a shout. I’ve been listening to White Lion Pride this week. Great album. Wait has one the best solos ever on it. Napalm Death were indeed great mates back in the day.

Albums I bought that year not on the list were, faster pussycat, Keel, Lion and John Norum. John Norum’s album was a particular fave. Talented dude.

On the subject of GnR, did you chaps do one of the big shows of 91? GnR at Wembley with Skid Row and Nine Inch Nails, was a fantastic day out and worth covering.
