I disagree. It was more perfect that Ellie found out after Bud told her. He didn't deserve to know she escaped. I get your point in saying that but him dying not knowing is sweet to the sweets! Like him not knowing she escaped and killed his brother! They all deserved that shit lol

You two are too young to appreciate "who" David Carradine was. Back in the 1970's he was the star of a television show called "Kung Fu", where he played a Chinese monk travelling in the old American west. This previous portrayal made his casting in this extra special.

I was going to post something similar to this but decided to scroll through the comments first. I remember watching Kung Fu back in the 70's as a kid, dad used to love watching that show, got me hooked on it. Then to see Carradine opposite of Chuck Norris in Lone Wolf McQuade, then this movie. Good call out for the youngsters out there that didn't know how big 'Bill' was prior to this movie. David Carradine had a great career.

Bud and Bill were actual brothers.

Pai Mei is a villain that is in a number of 70s/80's Hong Kong kung fu movies. The long white hair and huge eyebrows are his look and a popular way to make young actors look old for the parts. On another note, it's ironic that El Driver said that Beatrix deserved better than to be ambushed by Bud when, in the first movie, she wanted to poison her while she was in a coma.

It's a wonderful homage for Gordon Liu to play Pai Mei since in the classic Shaw Brothers films he fought against him as the hero. Sadly, over a decade ago he had a stroke that paralyzed half his body. He's made some recovery but not fully. Gordon Liu will always be a legend of Hong Kong cinema.

He stopped her from killing the Bride stating she deserved better. Elle parots Bill. The second is she just plain despises Budd and sees herself and Beatrix as above him.

Pai Mei is a reoccurring character in the older Chinese kung fun flicks. It was kind of amazing that Tarantino included him in this movie.

What people always gloss over about The Bride/Beatrix laughing/crying in the bathroom... That is a side effect of the truth serum wearing off, a feeling of pure euphoria. It's that, mixed with the grief of losing who was once her true love, the joy of carrying out her revenge and getting her daughter back, and the relief that it's all finally over and she can move on with her life in peace.

the 64000-dollar question was a game show on tv during the late 50's and early 60's it ended in scandal after the producer's rigged the game for better ratings. they gave the answers to the contestants the viewers liked and wanted to win.

The burial scene definitely shook me the first time I saw it in a dark theater with surround sound… 😳😳😳

The first volume was a dedication to martial arts movies. The second is more reminiscent of the old spaghetti westerns. That story Bill tells about the Shaolin monks is always ironic to those of us who watched David Carradine in the tv show Kung Fu. The series follows the adventures of Kwai Chang Caine(Carradine), a Shaolin monk who travels through the American Old West, armed only with his spiritual training and his skill in martial arts, as he seeks Danny Caine, his half-brother. Rock salt can kill someone at close range. It is unquestionably Deadly Force. It is very much less effective than a normal load of lead pellets but a face shot would certainly blind you for life. Close enough and the energy of the impact will also bruise you pretty good. One caveat, the rock salt has little mass and will not travel far or have much effect at any serious distance, like beyond 10 to 15 feet, give or take.

I just want to point out that Shogun Assassin is an insanely good samurai movie from the Lone Wolf and Cub series.

Quentin Tarantino and Thurman conceived the Bride character, persona and protagonist, during the production of Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction; Kill Bill credits the story to "Q & U". Tarantino spent a year and a half writing the script while he was living in New York City in 2000 and 2001, spending time with Thurman. Tarantino initially developed many of the Bride's characteristics for the character of Shosanna Dreyfus for his 2009 film Inglourious Basterds, which he worked on before Kill Bill. Thurman cited Clint Eastwood's performance as Blondie in the 1966 film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as an inspiration. In her words, Eastwood "says almost nothing but somehow manages to portray a whole character". As usual, her performance is exceptionally well completed, and her acting absolutely genius. They really did have a black mamba in the film but it was defanged, so no poison… mostly. Quintin Tarantino grabbed the mamba and let it bite him. He said he always wanted to be bit by a black mamba and live to talk about it. I think he just got a stomach ache, but he did it!

Yes...Bud shot her with both barrels of rock salt...basically it shatters when it goes off, and it is like being hit with sand...except the salt is tiny crystals with sharp edges. Since it is so small, it cannot penetrate much skin, so it is basically "non-lethal" as long as you are not shot in the face or groin areas...call it "less lethal", but Bud knew it would not really hurt BLEEP much if he hit her in the chest...incapacitate her briefly.

The 64 Thousand Dollar Question was a famous 50s game show. That phrase is used quite often to mean the last, most crucial bit of information. And actually, people don't change. That's a myth, like Santa Claus. People might try to change, and they may believe they have changed, and they can fool other people into beliving they have changed, but under the right stress, they always revert back to their real inner nature.

Both volumes are a rendition to those movies Tarantino loved to watch as a teenager. It's an original story with elements of those classics.

Kill Bill was an big up to early successful martial arts movies in the United States. That riff you hear when the do the close up before she begins killing is taken from "Five Fingers of Death". It was the first martial arts movie that was successful in the United States from China filmed in the 70's. As a young man Bill played "Grasshopper" in the TV series "Kung Fu". I never missed a show. The yellow jump suit was taken from Bruce Lee's last move "Game Of Death".

And the song that plays in the first film when Beatrix is going to meet O-Ren, is the theme song to The Green Hornet(1966 tv series), by Al Hirt; the Green Hornet starred Van Williams as the Green Hornet, and Bruce Lee as his martial art expert partner, Kato. Tarantino made sure to put that song in the film at that scene as the second homage to not only Bruce Lee, but to the overall genre of vigilante justice, with a martial art twist.

Vol 3 needs to happen! Vernita Greens daughter vs the brides daughter! Call it Kill B! Quentin could even cast Uma Thurman's actual daughter, Mya Hawke, to play BeeBee. Elle Driver can still be alive and I'm sure QT would do some crazy stuff with a blind assassin. The timing is perfect. Everyone has aged into the roles perfectly.

Wish they would do this too. I always thought it would be interesting if Elle trained Vernita's daughter and tried to drive a wedge between Beatrix and BeeBee, say if Beatrix never told BeeBee that she killed her father. BeeBee only finding out as an adult, maybe from Beatrix's enemies. That would be one thing that would make a significant impact on Beatrix, if her daughter stopped trusting her and turned against her for a while. I love the blind assassin idea for Elle too.

Tarantino almost killed Uma while filming the scene where she’s driving down the country road, he kept pushing her to drive faster and she wasn’t comfortable doing it because the car wasn’t in good mechanical condition. He made her do it thought and she ended up losing control and hit a tree.

@@RoyKoopaling You are both wrong on this. He didn't force her to go faster until she crashed. She was worried about driving down that road at that speed in that car. Tarantino tried it himself (although the opposite direction) and thought it was safe. Told her he thought it was safe. She trusted him and so she did it. And so she crashed. Also it wasn't just "suffer for the art". According to the film's stunt expert after the footage came out it was just luck that she wasn't decapitated. And while it hurt their relationship she was mainly angry at Weinstein and co. for trying to cover it up, while Tarantino was the one who helped her get ahold of the footage and get it out. I also remember reading somewhere that Tarantino wanted to wait for the stunt team to come in and check it out, but Weinstein or the studio wouldn't let him and so he tried it himself, but I couldn't find the source for that again now. Also Tarantino has said he is the reason they haven't done Vol. 3. While he knows what it would be about he feels he hasn't come up with a good enough way to handle the plot, and he doesn't want to do it just to do it if it'd end up not living up to Vol. 1&2.

Bill picked $64,000 because there was an old radio game show called "The $64,000 Question". When contestants reach the $64,000 question, it's always the most challenging question. Bill picking that specific number is a reference. It demonstrates how old fashioned he is.

If you remember Kill Bill vol.1's animation, the man dressed in white who kill's O'Ren Ishii's father and sets the room on fire is Bill.

I absolutely love Tarantino. I love Elle, so evil! I love the Superman story, so true! And the palm technique was brilliant. The fight scenes alone make this the best, I always hoped he’d make Kill Bill 3. The fact the bride says in her monologue “the papers called it…” means people know. So was she on the run? I want little Niki to be grown now, & have teamed up with Elle for revenge on Beatrix & BeBe … great reaction. PS - i knew Cam would gag when Elle got hit with his tobacco chew cup thing lol!!! I do love that there are no heroes in this story. There are protagonists and antagonists, but all of them are either bad now or have done horrible things in their past, including the Bride. She didn’t even know that her daughter was alive until she saw her. Up to that point it was just selfish revenge. It’s a story where every major character is a monster has wronged someone and we only like one of them because she was the one whom was wronged the most.

That siren used to be my ex-wife's ring tone on my phone when we were young parents because of how much the meddlesome administrators at our kids' school feared her. Mama bear had claws!

Rock salt has a density around 2.5 or 3. Lead has a density around 11. So the fluffy rock salt slows down really fast in the air and doesn't penetrate very well.

A lot of peeps don't realize when the karate dude would throw his beard it meant he was displeased, and when he strokes his beard that meant he was pleased.

"Thats what you did with the daughter" thats why Bill did that. She made him believe she was dead and she wasn't. So Bill did the same to her with their daughter

When she got on the plane to Japan when she was sitting in her seat her ticket were on her tray table. If you paused you'd have seen the name: *** SPOILER*** Beatrix Kiddo on the ticket.

She seems like the type who would have access to fake identities, so even that could be considered dubious until it’s confirmed later.

There should be an alternate ending......After Beatrix gets her kid and leaves. Several minutes later, Bill gets up from the ground and giggles to himself....."I can't believe that idiot woman actually believes there's a move called the 5 point palm exploding heart technique. Pai Mei and I made that crap up when we were drunk on Sake one night. We laughed our butts off at the ridiculous notion! Man is that woman going to be surprised when I suddenly show up at her front door to get my daughter back."

Originally there was supposed to be a big show down between the Bride and Bill at the end - a massive sword fight on the beach. But Harvey Weinstein said they didn’t have the budget, so it got cut. And I think it absolutely was necessary to really finish the story. The film suffers significantly without a big climax at the end. Although I still love it. PS- all the things you thought were perhaps faults are entirely intentional. Kill Bill is a love letter to genre film and all of the direction issues you had are taken straight out of 70s cinema (mostly). Not a spoof, but a deep, loving homage. Because of the time you (and me actually) grew up, it feels like it’s cheesy because all of the beautiful little iconoclastic cinematic touches have been rehashed and recycled through the years to the point where they’re just parody. You really need to understand what Tarantino is doing to ‘get it’.

The striking of the beard and the look that he had was typical of those films that the master looked like that. The $64,000 Question was a game show in the 50's. The show was a question and answer show.

Also: No, he would eventually still die from his pressure points having been attacked, it just would have been slower and more painful. The five steps pump blood to his heart, but the pressure points, having been attacked, stop the blood from getting there, like a dam in a river. But after five steps, the walls of the dam break and an overabundance of blood overfills the heart all at once in a violent explosion.

I Loved Pai Mai! He was Hilarious! 😂 Every time he stroked his beard I couldn’t help but laugh! 🤭 Also David Carradine deserved his best actor Oscar nomination for this and probably should’ve won! Uma Thurman was Awesome and a Dope 🔥! She is Legen….wait for it…Dary! 😎

What Bill said was true: get involved with people who have violence as part of their way of living - criminals, assassins' that sort of thing, and you'll find violence is often also used to resolve personal disputes. Bill, even civilized as he is in some ways, is still the type of man a father would normally warn his daughter to avoid.

Fun fact: Uma and the actress that plays Ellie(Daryl Hannah)actually didn't get along during filming which makes the fight scene so much better!!

I used to live by the freight yards in Cicero, IL. The railroad police used to shoot trespassers with rock salt loaded shotgun shells, or sometimes peppercorns! I knew 2 teenage boys who tried to burglarize a freight car and got shot by rock salt - they said it stung badly, for quite some time. BTW, The $64,000 Question was an American game show broadcast in primetime on CBS-TV from 1955 to 1958, which became embroiled in the 1950s quiz show scandals. (In mid-August 1958, while both Question and Challenge had already been announced as part of CBS's fall lineup, the network's quiz show Dotto was cancelled without explanation. A federal investigation was launched by the end of August on the allegation that a Dotto contestant had been given answers in advance.)

Two perfect movies. Really hope we get the WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR one-movie version (with added scenes) someday.

The flashback of Pai Mei, Elle Driver and Elle's right eye is all the backstory I NEEDED for her; it's my favorite 3 seconds from BOTH movies! ( yes, I timed it!! Wish we could have had a smitch more of it! ) 1 hr, 17 minutes and 51 to 54 seconds into the movie.

Fun fact: Rock salt in a shotgun shell is literally minuet traces of salt. It considered nonlethal Designed to injure predators but not kill them. Before the invention of bean bags to use on coyotes and wolves. to scare them off it was considered a nonlethal form of deterrence but not designed to use on Humens and not a point-blank range. like in this movie. If he had wanted to kill here, he would have used buck shot or slugs. Lol Rock salt is know illegal in multiple states because of the pain it Cain causes in targets. Lol

I always wished Bill's death would have been a little more dramatic than just falling to the ground. It was supposed to be an exploding heart, and this just seemed like his heart just stopped. David Carradine's real death, however, is much, much more interesting.

People love laughing and finding mistakes but only genuine viewers deserve this movie review.

Fun fact: Daryl Hannah actually improvised Elle Driver’s blind tantrum just to make Quentin Tarantino laugh. He liked it so much that it was kept in the film.

That was Budd's spit jar that got emptied on Elle's face. As a year end/new year round-up, there NEEDS to be a compilation for all of Cam's dry heaving in 2023. Even in action movies like this... even in Galaxy Quest! XD

Quinton Tarantino's movies so far. Have almost a comic book action to them. Things kids used to watch in the theaters during the Saturday morning matinees. First the News reel. Usually the latest advances of world war two. And then the serials. Superman, Captain America, the shadow, rocket man, Buck Rodgers, etc. The action during these short movies was sometimes over the top. Looking to WOW the young audience that typically flocked to the Saturday morning matinees. There was always a cliff hanger of an impossible to survive situation that would be resolved in the next Saturday's matinee. But there was usually a cheat thrown in that wasn't in the first movie. Remember the character in the movie Misery talking about the serials and how she would stand up during the matinee screaming about how they had cheated the audience. Anyway not the cheating part of those old black and white matinee serials, ( stories). But the over the top action scenes sometimes like the master standing on her sword like he weighed nothing. But it's Cool as well as it is over the top

The crazy music whenever Mia sees one of her "killers" is taken from the opening credit of the 1960's-1970's cop show Ironside, featuring Raymond Burr as a paralyzed detective. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZH95j7yeXbm2lag.html The overall musical score was composed and created by Tarantino's friend and fellow director Robert Rodriguez. He charged Tarantino $1 as repayment for Tarantino appearing in his vampire film "From Dusk to Dawn" at the same rate of pay a few years earlier. That's some Duke and Duke shit right there.

So the reason they still showed Vivica A. Fox in the credits wasn't only just because of the new scene that showed them walking towards the chapel of course but also because Kill Bill was originally ONE film. The studio told Tarantino that it was too long so he had to slip it into two parts 🍵

Since 1 and 2 were shot as a single film the two halves fit seamlessly together.

I loved them both, but I think I liked part 2 just a wee bit more.

A very good Kill bill theory, and problably true, disects the bill death scene, and realizes that: They were acting/pretending just like the superman conversation said.
