Yes and no. Tarantino has said that he had to artificially inflate volume II because Harvey Weinstein's greedy ass told him they could make it two movies and make twice as much money. The reason was greed, not run time.

In the Japanese version, the fight at the Blue Leaves is a few minutes longer and entirely in color, since they weren't as worried about censorship of the violence. It explains a few things, like why the teenage Crazy 88 has no mask. The Bride tears it off during the fight, sees he's a kid and throws him away. It's also why she gives him that look before spanking him with the sword, because he didn't learn his lesson the first time.

Actually, few People ever notice, but in pulp fiction(about 10 years before this movie) , when Vincent Vega takes his Boss's lady out for dinner, thurmans' character explains about doing a pilot of a show about secret killer agents with cool nicknames. Basically the premise of Kill Bill in a nutshell, only more lighthearted and a sitcom, rather than a movie. I find that fascinating. There are too many similarities for it to be sheer coincidence. It's crazy that Uma is thé one to explain the plot and to be acting the lead in this 10 years later. The craziest part is Tarantino must already have had some idea of the plot for this movie, 10 years before he actually made it, at a point in his career he was still up and coming, had made 1 critically acclaimed movie, and just made pulp fiction that could'of been a hit (which it obviously was) or miss (that could've destroyed his career before it really took off).

Movie has a nonlinear narrative; "Copperhead", the second target, is crossed off the death list approximately 12 minutes into the film; "Cottonmouth", the first name is crossed off at about one hour and twenty minutes; finally we see the death list being constructed on the plane to Tokyo. Interestingly, we don't see that list in Volume 2 at all.

Someone else mentioned the cut backstory between ORen and the Bride, but perhaps another reason for the out-of-order chapters is that the giant showdown at Blue Leaves is much more fitting for the end than the more personal in-home fight at the start. I saw this at the theater and was initially underwhelmed; but upon seeing it with Vol2 it became (and still is) one of my favorite movies ever. They work so much better as a whole, IMO of course.

This was released a few days after starting my freshman year of college back in 03. Was so upset about the film split because it was supposed to be released as one whole film but the producer wanted Tarantino to split them and vol 2 was released in theaters 6 months later. Rza of the Wu-Tang Clan is the composer for the films

Imagine what it was like a) seeing this in the cinema, but b) being left hanging on that cliffhanger for what felt like absolutely forever! These are masterpieces of film. He is a genius. Everything is so well done & chosen esp the music. Written by both he and Uma…

Yeah I love this movie, but I honestly love the second one more for the acting chops, and the dialogue. Much less actiony than this movie, but just as riveting. Well the movie was billed as Part 1, so we knew there would be a part 2, so the starting the movie with copperhead didn't take anything away, it added style.

30:57 - The guy she's fighting here is the famous, legendary kung fu actor, Gordon Liu (aka Lau Ga Fai) who is the immortal "Master Killer" from the iconic Hong Kong cinema film, "36th Chamber of Shaolin". Gordon Liu also plays another character in the Kill Bill Vol 2. He play Pak Mei aka, the White Browed Priest (hence where I get my KZread handle from, lol). He unfortunately, suffered a major stroke just a few years after the making of this movie, and he can no longer practice Kung fu, or act. It's actually a pretty tragic story behind all that too. Just Google it and you'll see what I mean.

The iconic yellow track suit is a tribute, to Bruce Lee " Game of Death" the follow up to "Enter the Dragon". He died in middle of filming. There is around 25 minutes of footage, Bruce has to infiltrate a tower, and each level he encounters a martial art Master..and Kareem Abdul Jabar, Bruce's real life Student, appears. But the yellow suit is what Bruce wears.

9.6, good rating. Excellent movie. When I first saw it, like you I wondered why they showed O Ren's name crossed out. When I saw the end, I realized the twist was that it wasn't if she was going to die, but how she was going to die. From start to finish, this movie keeps you guessing and brings you into each scene. Great reaction guys.
