Kilimanjaro - an Honest Guide Up the Mountain - Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Lemosho Route

Our unfiltered experience climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. Lemosho Route.
Mount Kilimanjaro, Arusha/Moshi, Tanzania, Africa.
About 2.5 hours out of Arusha, Tanzania, is the start of the Lemosho Route - Londorossi Gate.
A dream come true for us climbing Africa's highest mountain and the tallest free standing mountain in the world at 5,895M a.m.s.l.
We took the Lemosho Route over 8 days, for the superior scenery and ability to acclimatise to the altitude a little easier. It rained almost every day, but it was worth every single wet sock, soaked pair of underwear, drenched pants and souls! This is by far our proudest moment on any trek so far and we are so excited to be able to share our journey up the mountain with you.
Quick Trail Facts-
Total Distance - 64.9km (approx)
Time - 8 days / 7 nights
Start - Londorossi Gate
Finish - Mweka gate
Highest Altitude - 5,895M a.m.s.l
We went with ClimbingKilimanjaro.com and could not have been happier. Their guides are incredibly experienced and profoundly hard working, doing absolutely everything in their power to make your climb the best experience possible. Our head guides Fred (Who has climbed Kili over 1,000 times!) and Bareki were so knowledgeable and understanding of not only the mountain, but also our needs whilst climbing, which made this dream of ours even better!
A truly life changing experience I hope everyone gets the opportunity to summit this beautiful mountain.
There is a bunch of technical questions that we had before we left so as always, please throw any questions you have in the comments and we will be more than happy to share any and all knowledge we have!
Next we're off to witness some of the most beautiful animals Africa has to offer and immerse ourselves in East African wilderness!

Also a big thank you to Ash Gale for the use of his song Sweet Release Devour to match our experience at the summit!

  • @vaastexpeditions908

    @vaastexpeditions908

    2 жыл бұрын

Hey Tom, thanks so much for watching! You reach the summit at sunrise after a night time ascent, then come back down to base camp for a rest and nap. That same day you begin your descent and cover ground very quickly, camping only one more night on the mountain. The reason is altitude acclimation, you need to ascend very slowly to allow your body to get used to the lower levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. However as you come down the oxygen becomes denser and you feel incredible, therefore can come down very fast. If you were already acclimatised to altitude you could probably summit in 2 days, the local porter's reach base camp at lighting speeds! Very cool! I hope that helps! :)

Main weight comes from water, spare clothes for the day and snacks. Your team of porters will carry everything else. So excited for your climb!

Hi Shradha, thanks so much for watching! We actually used the same boots for the entire climb, which are the Salomon Quest gtx4. They're waterproof and fantastic in almost all conditions. Our jackets are from a company called Kathmandu and are 750 loft. It's really about the layers you're wearing on summit night, you will want a thermal base layer, a polar fleece layer and then a good quality down jacket on top. Depending on what climbing company you book with, you can rent just about everything, for us we rented out poles, tent, sleeping bags and mattresses. Basically everything we didn't want to fly to Africa with! Good luck on your climb, we wish you all the best!

Hey Simon and Bec, Congratulations what a wonderful journey to climb up Kilimanjaro. I enjoyed your video. You said it was -25 degrees at the summit. That was so cold! Was the dude with one leg managed to be on the summit? He is super cool. I am planning to go there next year in March. Did you go during June 2020? How did you go with the Covid restriction? In your experience what is the most difficult part of the climb? Would you mind sharing the total cost you spent? Again, congratulations 🎉 guys what an experience.

Hey Jeffry, thanks so much for watching and the kind words! We climbed in Sept/Oct but back in 2019, a few months before COVID hit. (Luckily) The one legged man did make it! Incredible story and there's a documentary about it too. Check out his Instagram instagram.com/neeraj_george?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= I think we spent maybe $8,000AUD each, including flights and accom. That also included a Safari in Kenya. By far the hardest section is the summit night. All other sections are very easy, but summit night you're fighting jet lag, lack of sleep and general tiredness from the previous 6 days of trekking. Good luck with your climb, it's an incredible experience and very well worth the effort, money and time!

@@shilpakashyap438 oh excellent! They all seem to be very good. We went with a company called Climbing Kilimanjaro.com, but they seem to have become a victim of Covid taking tourism away. They were incredible and our head guide Fred was well known by all on the mountain. The parent company Hidden Valley Safaris are still offering climbing packages and you may be able to request Fred as your guide! :) Over all just look for how many successful summits they've had (as a percentage) and what reviews are like. We always felt incredibly safe and well looked after and that's the most important thing.
