Kihon Wado Ryu

(Kihon)The basic techniques of blocking, punching, striking and kicking are both the beginning of karate and the ultimate goal. Although only a matter of months may be sufficient to learn them, complete mastery may not come even after a lifetime of training. The student must practice regularly, with maximum concentration and effort in the execution of each and every movement.

That's nice! I also used to do Wado-ryu Karate. I miss Otsuka Sensei. I signed up for the channel.

@78a67h is right. Jiro Otsuka was an affront to his father and Wado. Apparently, he never ever mastered the concept of relaxation well enough to (practice or) demonstrate any of his techniques with his eyes open when he moved above half-speed and power; not that ANY of his YT videos ever show him performing with speed, power, or kime. Go to 3:17 in this video. He kicks with his toes flat out instead of up; he kicks like his knees are fulcrums, not hinges. He leads with his shoulders, not his body. I found the overhead view to be an epiphany. I've never seen a sensei punch with flailing elbows like Jiro Otsuka; the overhead view proves he never learned to punch using his body (core). He throws his elbows away from his body as he punches--his elbows arc out horizontally AND vertically--the punch doesn't come from his center, he throws from the shoulders. If they came from the center, the elbow would hug the ribs (from the overhead view) and the punch wouldn't scoop (from the side view). There IS a scooping punch in Wado, but it's not meant for hitting the body. So much of his performance was based on his own concept of "reverse engineering"--he made "his Wado" katas and kihon kumite(etc) fit his ability to perform. As suggested, ya wanna see a true sensei? Look on KZread for Suzuki-Sensei / Fukawaza-Sensei / Shiomitsu-Sensei / Ajari-Sensei / Nishimura-Sensei /Saitamatsu-Sensei (Setamatsu). ALL these men exposed their pride and reputations to "outside" sanctioned competitions and the jeopardy of true encounters (as did Hironori Otsuka, obviously) and proved their abilities. Not so with "Hironori II" (Jiro Otsuka) nor "Hironori III" (Kazutaka Otsuka); these men were both sheltered within a family practice, and lamentably, it shows. They might demonstrate well if they can call the shots, but spontaneously, no.

    私は和道会の有段者です 同じ和道でも微妙に違いますね 自然な流れを重視する和道会では、動画のような突きは肩が入り過ぎて予備動作が大きいと即怒られそうです ダイナミックなのは和道流ですかね

Is this Jiro Otsuka? Unfortunately he is an embarrassment to his father and Wado-ryu in general.

@@BFW1 Why? Because he is no good. If you want to see authentic Wado-ryu as was taught by the founder Master Hironori Otsuka then check out videos of the late great Master Tatsuo Suzuki.

He is not "good" compared to who?? Does he need to be a lifelong Bruce Lee, or an elite UFC fighter? Fuck you, the guy has his own private life and business to maintain and support himself, Wado-ryu is part of his life for sure, but it's not all!
