When I was 10 my parents fought a lot. not anything as bad as Hopsin's parents but was still traumatic for me and my brother. I never forgot those days. I had a friend from school and I remember sleeping over at his house because I wanted to get away from the yelling all the time in the house. I didn't want to see my parents like that. now my parents are divorced and I live with my dad, but this song really hit me. very powerful and relatable.

I'm lucky to have my mother. Dad was a alcoholic and moved around, step father was nice at first but got selfish and didn't put family first, and my mom always told me to forgive them. I do, but I do not forget, and the irony is that they taught me a valuable lesson. To never make my wife feel the way mother felt. Life is strange the way it works.

I feel so blessed, I am 17 and don't have one bad memory of my parents. And I'm so thankful and I appreciate them so much. They literally never fraught or hurt me in any way. I can only imagine how it has to be to have violent parents and I whish everyone parents like mine. I'm truly thankful and hope to be a father as good as mine one day.
For real it’s crazy hearing someone put it in words. Amazing he was able to fight them demons. I have not been as lucky losing my girl & her mom at the same time. After that I been having these dreams & thoughts of my old man beating me and my mother. Like he fights professionally. The last time I jumped in between him & my mom. He shoved me knocked her out then grabbed a cast iron skillet.......I woke up in the hospital almost 72 hours later. My arm broken in a cast. Bandages wrapped around my chest. Cuts and bruises some cuts need stitches. I have this crazy knot close to the back of my neck by my right ear. Beat me so bad he thought I was dead then he took off. He has been in prison after they caught him. He is dying yet somehow I feel sad but can’t force myself to go see him. That depression is no joke. So I am happy for Hop an anybody else that makes it through it.

Kind of related to this is "Shrunk" by Aesop Rock. It's about his first experience with going to therapy after dealing with his best friend dying from a chronic illness. It's a great track.
This is TOO real. Hopsin truly puts into words what a lot of us don't want to remember. It's taken many years to cope with the nights of my childhood. I remember cleaning up broken glass and blood off the floor at 8 years old, I remember being forced to help burn our kitchen table "as a family" at 2 a.m in the backyard because it had been destroyed. I remember escaping through my window at least 3 nights a week and showing up at different friends houses begging their parents not to bring me back home. I remember listening for loud noises and changes in tone with my ear pressed against my bedroom door. I will be 27 this year and my dad lives with me now because he tried to kill himself last year over the guilt. It gets easier after you become a parent and realize that parents aren't perfect, but that doesn't erase it. Trauma is an emotion that becomes deeply instilled into your core being, sometimes we don't know who we are without it.
Wow this brought up memories, I haven’t remembered in a while. Especially jumping in front. My brother and Me.
This shit hit the emotions really hard. Def relate to every word n got tears roll down when he said he didn't know if he would come home to her dead. My thoughts all the time my parents fought. But blessed to see he doing good
Its ya boy its ya homie!! Finish that. Hopsin is a Beast!!

This song hits home. Been thru it all my childhood. "Always protect ur mom". I know my kids will NEVER have to go thru the same shit
This song made me remember a story of a little girl about 5-8 years old she heard her mom and dad arguing and her dad telling her mom to throw her in the garbage because he didn't want anything to do with her, skip 20+ years later and he's on his deathbed wanting to see her but she refused saying he didn't want anything to do with her so she wants nothing to do with him and he passed away days later. So moral of the story watch what you say around your kids
