Kid Stops Mid-Race And Still Comes Back To Win 800m At AAU Junior Olympics 2023

Спорт

This 8-and-under athlete mistook the 600m mark for the 800m finish line and stopped mid-race, but still bounced back to win this chaotic 800m heat at the AAU Junior Olympics 2023.

I participated in the 400m in middle school. I was unfit and didn't know how long 400m was, but not enough people were signing up so I thought I'd fill the slot. Race day, I started off fine then quickly fell behind after 10 seconds. As the other kids were passing the finish line, I was still on the other side of the track, half a lap behind. As I approached the line, everyone started cheered my name. I may have lost the race by a huge margin, but I gained an unforgettable memory.

@Webberjo When I was in high school we literally had a guy do the same thing. When he started running he ran like he was running the 100m. The other students on our team were flabbergasted. Like what is he doing!?!? He came in last and my coach said you started a little fast. 🤭 He was exhausted and could barely speak but, acknowledged that he should have started slower. I ran the 4x4 and several other races. I wasn’t fast enough to run the individual 400m but I was fast enough to be one of the relay legs. Track was brutal. I preferred cross country because I got to run through the woods. 🙂

Actually I believe he stopped bc he saw the official on the track holding a yellow flag. He thought that was the finish line. In fact, the entire lead field thought it was the end of the race... you can see everyone pullup. The official had to yell at them to KEEP GOING! LOL

@@natronmeans6264 He literally raised his arms and leaned in, then slowly slowed, stepping to the side. That is exactly what you do when you win a race. And what do you mean "he knows what the finish line looks like"? It's a circular track, so they pass the finish line multiple times. "Stopping to cheer them on" this is an AAU JUNIOR OLYMPICS, not a little race between friends. If you still think he stopped to cheer them on when he clearly thought it was the end (he was at 600m line not 800m) then you're just a little ignorant child.

@@coreyford9418 I suggest you review the video. You did NOT see any official "come on the track waiving the flag in FRONT of the boys causing them to stop." Funny how people see what they want to see! LOL What you did see is an official come on the track and tell the boys that the race was NOT over and to continue running AFTER the first one stopped. In no way was she the cause of the boy stopping or any of the others. The others simply stopped because the first one did, which caused them to become confused. It happens when you're 8 yrs. old. But at your age you should definitely not be confused by what the video shows. No excuse for that!
