The thing was he wasn't "stringing" any along, he basically just came up with the whole "it was all a game" thing as a way to explain why nothing was ever made and for his erratic behavior up that point. The only person he was stringing along was himself. The man has some serious mental health issues including but not limited to egomaniacal and anti-social behavior and extreme paranoia. This kinda thing happens all the time with people with untreated mental health issues, they keep on coming up with excuses and ways to explain away their behavior and sometimes they're convincing to the point where people who are unfamiliar with them and their issues, that they actually start to believe them. The horrible thing about that is, it's about the worse thing that can happen in that situation. As when that happens it just reaffirms the person beliefs that they aren't "sick" and if they haven't already, they start to believe their lies and almost become addicted to all the attention it brings them. It then pushes them further away from getting real help, which then just continues in a endless cycle usually getting worse and worse until it eventually (and it will eventually) something really bad happens.

Bob's Game is a good dissection of how the stages of grief can go wrong, Denial in thinking "omg mah gaym is teh best evah!!!!!1111one" 43:43 Anger and bargaining and a bit of guilt, which quickly leads into depression and then straight back into anger to straight up unbridled schizophrenia.

As someone working to get my Borderline diagnosed, they don’t want to help us. A lot of the time they avoid us, overcharge is, or take advantage of us. Getting disability because I can’t work without severe daily panic attacks even with therapy is impossible and they make it an unlivable wage too. We scream “care for people and three mental health” but those same people don’t say those same things for those with personality disorders and call us “crazy” when in reality we just need help figuring out how to control it in our lives.

Strong start. Who wants to tell our friend BoB that a million probably won't even cover the fuel cost for the launch?

The Bob's Game guy seems like a complete dbag, but that story is kinda sad. The guy seemed talented (though not as much as he thought) and probably could have gone on to make some good games. But seems like he's ego far outstripped his ability or effort. Now time has passed him by and RPG Maker games look just as good and it's easier than ever for indie developers to sell their games.

After something or someone pressed his buttons in the wrong order, and he threw the grandmother of all meltdowns, the "kiwi-chan" groups following him became contrite and divined that all he really would like or want was a decently up-to-date games console. They pitched their dimes into a trilby, spoke to his parents in text or video chat to get their blessing, and soon he had his rig and was happy with it, even though it didn't come equipped with a cyberstove.

Bob's game was like a fart, he pushed too hard and ended up shitting all over his career

Bit late, but sounds like paranoid schizophrenia... She isn't harmful, she needs mental help and someone who cares enough about her to get her the help she needs. It's treatable but the delusions lead sufferers to avoiding seeking treatment due to any variety of reasons that only make sense in their own world.

That last one was like some sort of creepy pasta. Also, the game kinda looked mediocre at best. I don't think I can blame Nintendo for avoiding this guy.

Robert's story is a sad one - people with the mental horsepower to achieve feats like his, are often vulnerable to instability and if undetected or untreated can result in serious psychoses taking root. At the very least a fragmentation of a person's cohesion - which is regrettably obvious as time goes on. Mental health - yours, mine and everyone in between. The least we can do is to treat others well and for those clearly suffering, help if we can.

This Bob's game story is unbelievable.

While I agree; kickstarter would be better at using PayPal as the only form of payment. That way even if the Kickstarter was discovered to be a scam; those backers would get their money back and those scammers end up being blocked from kickstarter.

If you sat down to design a flying car and had the best of humanity’s knowledge in design and engineering, you would design a Cessna or similar aircraft. If you really, really needed to park it on your driveway, you’d design a Zenith. The barrier to entry has never been the tech, it’s that learning to fly is expensive and requires knowing how to stop a fault from making you tumble out of the sky.

That intersex woman making the space board game is interesting. She hears a voice in her head claiming to be the sun and doubts it really is, but because it's claims of why it doesn't want her to make the game seem wrong rather than the fact it's a voice randomly in her head. She saw nothing wrong with hearing the voice itself. She had a hallucination, realized it wasn't what it was claiming to be, but didn't realize it was a hallucination. I've never heard of that before, it's usually either "oh I'm hallucinating" or "yes, the sun told me not to make the game."

The one about Bob's Game was surreal. The guy must have been soul crushed by the fact that Nintendo didn't want anything to do with him after his little stunt.

i feel terrible for Molly. delusions can be debilitating and extremely dangerous to the person they affect. she seems like a genuinely creative person with fun ideas, but her mental health is affecting her ability to think clearly. it's not an excuse for her racism - that is absolutely awful, there's no reason for that, absolutely none. being intersex can add a whole layer of medical complexity and social othering, and i feel for her in that sense. i truly hope that she gets the help she needs and sorts out her racism issues.

I mean she's had how long to seek a psychiatrist and how many people being kind and understanding and striving to help her? And she still hasn't gotten that help? You can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves or to be helped, and it seems pretty clear she doesn't. I agree it's a shame, and I certainly feel bad knowing that such suffering is going on. My mental health is hardly stellar. But we can't just ignore people's choices about their mental health and what they do (or don't do) about it either.

Since when do we have so much sympathy for abusers and liars? You don’t know anything about this persons real financial or mental situation. This is all a game to that person and you are only feeding the beast what they want. They are the quintessential narcissist that will get what they want by any means necessary. You think your sympathetic approach gets them to question their actions and grow? Think again. Look at the evidence. You are their prime subject for prey. They suck you dry just as they did with this KZreadr guy and the “backers”. Message after message this person relishes in the attention. Diverting and deflecting any blame they have for stealing from people. They exhibit a full awareness and understanding how life works yet act like they don’t when precisely convenient for them absolve any wrong doing. The pattern is perfectly calculated like that of a very sane person. Saying, “I’m taking a break from the game to refresh perspective” is a very coherent and logical thought process. You can give a serial killer a cupcake, they will still cut your heart out, no and forever. The question is how much time with people waste trying to improve something beyond repair VERSUS someone who is worth it.

229 people want to see BOB's camera see the curvature of the earth. But he needn't do that. Just buy an airplane ticket. If the weather is really clear, it's visible from that height. Trouble is, if BOB's camera picked up the curvature, he would probably insist NASA or The Government meddled with it. The person who made Katalyka has some past history, it turns out, with other types of work (commissioned art), and has said some paint-peeling things to those folks, too. I sincerely hope they get the psychological treatment they need, but it sounds like they've only gotten worse and worse, and don't have any kind of insurance (and the quality of, and difficulty of access to, mental health treatment in the USA is disgusting).
