Although i despise cyclists like him when they are in the wrong (in europe there are lots who dont have a drivers license and never learnt traffic laws), judging by these videos its good that he shows it, as this is one of the most common ways for bikes to get into accidents. Teaches people to look over the shoulder before turning. Not a cyclist myself, but getting more people to cycle by teaching drivers to look out (so it isnt as unsafe) eases traffic greatly and is far better for the enviroment. Also its good for bikers because people get used to looking out for other things than cars, and with cycle lanes people open up to filtering for motorcycles too.

Overspeed and focus on the object rather than escape. He had plenty of space left or right to avoid the impact. Easy to say behind the screen and that is exactly why you slow down in those areas.

For new riders...When approaching an intersection where someone MIGHT pull out in front of you, always assume they don't see you and ride accordingly. Don't just speed on through. Sometimes driver's minds are only looking for other cars and only see other cars, oddly. Sounds weird, but it is a thing. Just slow it down and pick your escape rout or be ready to stop if you can. I remember they emphasized that lesson in the Motorcycle Rider's Safety Course offered by CHP back 16 years ago when I was getting ready to start riding. Its a lesson that saved my ass more than a few times.

I've cycled around the States as well and I noticed a lot of people miss spotting passing cyclists when making a right, or they are simply unaware of the fact that they need to yield. It's unsafe because drivers are relatively unfamiliar with cyclists. Here in the Netherlands, they really drill this into you in Driver's Ed: look for cyclists when turning right, and yield to them. Plus, bike lanes are literally everywhere; drivers expect them and they are used to them.

That way insurance investigator would see the speed also & both their insurances would only pay part of the others damage. Since both had contributing factors in it.

Legally speaking, the cyclist are suppose to ride in the street as a vehicle if its not a dedicated bicycle lane... So blame DMV for cyclist being in the road. Also, the speed limit is the limit, and typically downtown areas its 25 major less.... . Just saying from a legal stance., a cyclist can sue the hell out of you personally if you hospitalize them... @@NotABot-px7ky as a rider it makes no sense to pass through a pack in their lane when there is an open lane to the left and usually if you're by yourself you keep a distance unless passing to distinguish between bikers / groups.

Im really wondering why bikers are surprised when people get aggitated when they do wheelies in the open road. Can somebody explain that?

Yeah there’s some danger to wheelies but not if you’re experienced and actually have regard for other people, and yeah they’re illegal but if the road is clear it’s not really that big a deal. And I understand if there’s other people you could possibly pose a danger. But it’s just a wheelie.

Some will argue "well I looked and thought it was safe" but how many times do we hear that from car drivers that smash bikers to the ground? 6:30 I have personally witnessed this "gotta have good lungs" cyclist - he acts like he has no brakes on his bike and expects to be given the right of way. Granted, bikes _do_ have the right of way in PDX, however that doesn't mean you should keep moving against a 2 ton+ car. I am almost certain he rides a bike because he [used to?] drives this way too and would do the same screaming instead of braking or honking. I mean, I get it to a certain extent, but get a horn, or here's a thought, use your damned brakes! your bicycle can stop immediately, the cars you're yelling at obviously don't hear you right away. screaming like a lunatic doesn't help anyone.

As usual, a lot of these incidents could have been avoided. If you ride, then it's only a matter of time until you get hit/hurt if you rider like other should see you. Ride like no one sees you. Don't be scared, but be paranoid...100% of the time. Spend as little time as you have to in the "blind spot"(s), as most driver don't have their mirrors adjusted correctly and don't look anyway. If you get complacent, bad things will come. If you are totally relaxed while riding, bad things will find you. And the biggest one, if you fuck around, VERY bad things will eat you alive. Every night where I am, you can hear the ricers flying down the streets like it's a race track. Sometimes as often as a few times a week, I usually read that someone was killed in a bike/car collision. Lastly, 3:50 , all riders need to practice their emergency braking. Didn't seem like Carlos Nava did. Cheers

Or they should create elevated bike paths just for bikes adjacent to the road. Bikes and cars don’t mix well but we insist on having them ride together in the states. It’s dangerous and not practical

But do it somewhere where it won't disturb peoples. Because hearing a motorcycle going pass your house again and again can be annoying. And as the "its also a whole street over", the description in his vid clearly said it was his neighbor. So yeah, training wheelies equals VROMM VROMM! and if people don't like VROOM VROOM! and you don't see the problem go fuck yourself.
