Kia EV6 - Fitting a Dongar Mirror USB Dashcam power adapter

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Fitting a Dashcam to a Kia EV6 just got a lot neater.
I recently purchased a Dongar Technologes 10 Pin Type H for select Hyundai/Kia vehicles Dash Cam power Adaptor that lets you power a dashcam from your EV6's rear-view mirror housing making for a much neater install.
With a little fiddling it works really well.
Note does need an Auto-Dimming Mirror or possibly a Homelink enabled mirror (check with Dongar before purchase).

Hey Garry, Thanks for letting us know about this. I ordered this connector and yesterday i got it. Installation took less than 10 mins and its very easy in my opinion with less clutter. I did this for my KIA Niro 2022 HEV

It took me less than 10 minutes to put in the Songar Dash Cam adapter in our Hyundai Elantra GT/i30. Amazing.

Many thanks Garry! I've just fitted one of these to my wife's EV6, & using both hands (!) it really did take less than a minute. Brilliant!

Excellent. Thanks. Followed this and it works a treat. I also removed the left hand cover to give more hiding room and bring the cable out sideways to suit my Garmin Mini which initially I mounted it too high up the windscreen and found the picture to the right masked by that cover. I had to take it off and mount it lower down.

Great video! Spooky that I watch this 2hrs before the postie delivers my Dongar adapter. Took 10mins to install all cables neatly into a UK EV6 Air. Doesn’t appear to be any sensors on right hand side (on my Air) so loads of room to hide cables. Works well and a much simpler solution to powering the camera.

Ive just ordered one for my niro ev. Hopefully it will fit 😂 even if its a bit fiddly it looks easier than having to earth a hard wired camera like I've done before.

thank you for sharing. I am a bit hesitate if this worths the effort when the power is not constant from that outlet which is necessary for parking mode surveillance. It seems to me all it does is to shorten the distance between the power source to the dash cam and use a shorter cable. Alternatively, If you can use the USB outlet below the dashboard and run the cable underneath the dashboard and then hide it in the panel gap and all the way up to the dash cam, such effort is a lot easier in my opinion. And if there is a rear camera, then such cable lining cannot be avoided anyway.

Those are all very fair points. For my scenario it is perfect. My camera has a battery which is adequate for parking mode and my rear camera is not wired to the front one. I also have to be able to remove anything I had to the car with 24 hours notice (in case my company wants to change it - unlikely to happen until end of lease but still something to be aware of) One other advantage is freeing up one of the USB ports.

@@EVOwner If it suits you well, it's a nice little spend. One thing I would caution you of the battery inside your dash cam that can last overnight. I would say it's not a good thing to have if you your summer is grilling hot. If not on fire, it will swell in the course of time. Just a friendly note.

It's crazy that Tesla are still the only company to just provide proper camera recording through the existing cameras and saving it to your own hard drive. These components relatively cheap and people go to great lengths to install their own cameras... it's a feature people want and are willing to pay for!

Tesla seem prepared to take more risk legally. Kia actually do offer this in Korea but not in Europe due I'm told to it being illegal in Austria/Portugal to use/install a dashcam

@@joeynessily I don't know the full facts. I think privacy laws but it isn't a case of obtaining permission but an outright ban on use and I think in one of the two even fitting.

Hi! Do you use some sort of recording while parking? Especially due to the 12V drain & being careful with a leasing vehicle: Do you have any clue for a remote powerbank solution to run the dashcams during parking?

Would it work if you attache a small batterypack to the USB and have that batterypack charged when the car is on and let that power for parking mode? This would make cabling a lot nices and you have parking mode most of time, only when you park for weeks this will not work. But I used the car almost every day

Would indeed work although I'm finding the battery in the camera to be good enough. Also as others have warned you would need to make sure it was a reliable battery with no risk of fire.
