I just posted a video on my channel showing the middle section seats removed as it appears hard to post pictures on KZread. The one picture shows the Trailside camping mat we utilize - 6'x4'x3". It fits nicely in the front area with the Front seats fully back. You will see the middle seat mechanisms (fairly flush) in the additional picture with the carpet and rubber underlay. In my opinion this area is very level. When the loungers are in, they sit somewhat forward as the center console protrudes backwards into the back area. However, as shown in my first video they still fit nicely in the front section. The area at far back with the rear seats folded in is slanted downward slightly from the back forward so it is not completely level. If you are travelling alone, you can easily use one lounger with a single mattress and leave one of the back seats up to sit on with room for a small table. I hope to show this setup in a future video.

This is great, you have some fantastic ideas here. I currently use my Ram 1500 with 6.5 bed and Leer topper to truck bed camp and am considering trading for the Carnival. I would have more room and easier access to everything while on the road. If I go ahead I will definitely steal some of your plans.

If that 3rd row is easy to remove with just a few bolts, maybe remove them and it would give you a ton of storage space instead of the seats taking it up. Cut out a board to cover the well space and can flip up to access it. May be a little more than you are willing to do but just a possible idea.

Not sure if you know this - once you put away/Stowe the 3rd row seats, you need to flip the flaps up so you have a smooth surface. These flippable flaps are located at the very top edge of those seats on the back side, that run the entire width of the seats. They have velcro so they won’t dangle when the seats are upright.

We're you able to transfer the roof setup from your Rouge to the Carnival? I'm personally thinking of buying a Carnival for part-time living with Health Clubs, and Hotels/Motels. I am looking for an SX, SX prestige, with sunroof access for the Unicamp camper add-on if I decide to go that route. That limo style high roof Carnival they sell only in South Korea looks awesome, but it's a bit pricey & might be a pain to import. 🤷

Sounds like a great plan! We have the Canadian LX model which allows you to remove the middle seats, but unfortunately does not come with the roof rails for the cargo bin. I believe in the US the model configurations are different. We have the Napier bonnet/tent for the back tailgate which can open the sleeping area up if needed. Having the cargo bin on the back trailer hitch, along with the Lahti storage bins in back and underbed storage space (as shown) are working well for us for storage purposes. Good luck with your plans!

Thanks for sharing! I wish in the US we had more options like in europe for vehicles made to camp in that were for simple camping, no bathroom/kitchens. Having given up on that or convincing my husband to convert a van to what I want 😂, we got a Carnival a couple months ago. Have you ever tried any of the tents that attach to the back of SUVs?

  • @roguerunner7121

Thank you for your feedback! The Napier tent we originally owned was not big enough for the Carnival (it fit on our Rogue). We have purchased the bigger size (Model 61500) but have not yet tried it out. To be honest there is so much space in the Carnival we're not sure we will need it - however, it would help with air circulation (if you do not have any screens to cover your windows). Thanks again for watching my videos and I hope they gave you some good ideas. I plan to post some more videos soon to show some other cool things and bedding configurations. Hope you enjoy simplified camping in your Carnival!

Thank you for viewing and responding. We have the larger Napier Bonnet for the Carnival tailgate a size up than the one we had for the Rogue and have not used it yet. We have not tried the full tent attachments, however we do pack a pop up tent with us in the event we need more. We love the Carnival and just returned from a trip to Jekyll Island - Just Perfect!

We have not experienced this problem to date. The great thing with the window screens is you can adjust the window opening as needed if animals are a concern where you are camping. Another great option for window coverage is the "Roadie" which is displayed on the Nissan Rogue in my "SUV Camping Simplified" video. I will soon be posting another video displaying the "Roadie" on the Kia Carnival.. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video! You mentioned that there are two levels in the back of the Carnival once you stow the 3rd row seats and remove the 2nd row seats. How much taller is the level where the 3rd row seats are stowed than the rest of the back? Would you say it’s less than 1 inch or more than that? If you have a precise measurement, that’d be a huge help! Thanks.

I think it is about 1 1/2" to 2", you could level the front level easily as well with a mat that thick... also the first front level is about 6' long, in the one slide I show the trailside mattress fitting in that front area nicely 6' x 4' without the loungers, the loungers give you the storage space underneath enjoy! Thank you for viewing!

Thanks so much your response! I have a couple more questions for you: 1) Within each level in the back of the van, is the floor perfectly level? For example, for the front level that is about 6’ long, is there any variation in the floor’s height, or is it perfectly flat and level? 2) For the front level, did you measure the 6’ length with the two front seats pulled as far forward towards the windshield, or were those front seats pulled back a bit? Thanks again!

Wow, thanks so much for posting that new video! I’m so grateful to you for your descriptions of the two levels also. I’m planning to rent a Kia Carnival to camp in on a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota. We have a local Kia dealership, but they don’t have any Kia Carnivals in stock, so I can’t go and see what it looks like in person before the trip. As a result, I’ve been trying to find videos and posts online that will help me to figure out how to get a flat sleeping surface on the floor of the van. Your videos and descriptions were easily the most helpful I’ve found. Thanks again!

Yes with room to spare, and I am 6' tall. You can also sit on the bed beside the side doors (open or closed) in a seated position facing out comfortably. This makes it easy to put on shoes and to enter or exit the van. If you are travelling alone, the single bed setup is a great option as you have a back seat with plenty of floor space. I plan to post these setups soon. Thank you for your comments and for watching my channel.
