Thanks for sharing this series. My dad flew these planes for years when I was a kid and knowing that my old childhood playground is a ghost town hurts.

Thankyou for sharing. This is 2022-11-21. KI Sawyer is still in our thoughts. My best friend crewed F106 as a young airman. I reported to Holloman AFB instead.

Hi Kara, so sorry for your loss. Phil was a good guy and he was my boss at KI Sawyer Base Ops (92-95) when I was a SSgt and he Was a TSgt and later a MSgt. I was even up to your house a couple times for lunch with Phil and seeing his "project cars" in the garage. He was a good man and I honor his service to our nation.

Thanks the Sawyer clips brought back some great memories. I was a B52 mechanic there for three years. Truly top shelf Airman to serve with.

I drove off of Sawyer for the last time on 14 Jun 1990. spent two years there. separated after eight years of service. After a year wanted to get back in as prior service but at that time I was told no prior service. Now 27 years later I miss it more than ever

It seems like enlisted people in the Air Force had more opportunities back then. Today no enlisted would ever fly on board a B-52, so that was quite a privilege for that crew chief. The Air Force is very picky these days about even having flying crew chiefs with the exception of the airlift world. I was a C-5 flight engineer, and they tried to take our flying crew chiefs away from us.

Interesting. I was stationed at Sawyer from 1970 - 1973, and was the 410th bomb wing historian from 1971 - 73. Thanks for uploading the videos.

I served under Col Bruce Wong at KI. He was a great guy and I have much respect for him and I always loved his many witty sayings such as this at his Commander's Calls.

I was at KI Sawyer and knew and worked with Phil Pender in this video. Wish I knew where he is now a days. Col Bruce Wong in this video was my commander. That's me standing by the station wagon as the B-52 is taking off.
