I don't think any director writing a spy movie would ever think of creating a character like the amma character or even thinking about utilizing or even keeping a character like that. It had Vishal Baradwaj written all over it-especially when she welcomes the daughter in law with all her open arms but tells her son that they now got a free maid as she cannot wash vessels anymore.

They could have easily cut out around 20 minutes of the movie and add a bit more of the equation between Tabu and Octopus given how the story progresses, I wasn’t convinced tabu’s desire for “revenge” because they didn’t spend enough time to build up to it, it was nice movie but yes one time watch

All the actors did such fab jobs that I didn't get time to think about the flaws of the film. It was a good movie. I liked the immersive feeling it created in between instead of being an edge of the seat thriller. End part could have been much better (last 20 minutes). Performance from most of the starcast was 👍🏼❤✨ Azmeri Badhon as Heena Rehman, Wamiqa as Charu, Tabu as KM, Navnindra Behl as Lalita Mohan stood out for me. Presence of Atul Kulkarni as Shashank and Rahul Ram as Yaara Baba was nice. I liked the music in it. Story can go forward if they decide to make a sequel. Lots of equations available to play with.

Love how honest your review was especially after meeting them . I actually loved this movie. But there were some loop holes which made difficult to digest. For example why does ali escape at night with his mother ? Wasn’t there a 24/7 surveillance on him ? In why does the cia pair him with another refugee who knows his secret ? Also when that Iranian refugee dies. Next morning there is no ambulance or any noise right outside their house. It was business as usual. Also , they conveniently were able to get the other spy a house across street to keep an eye on her and her boy

My thoughts "Tumhe lagta hai kii tum subah der se uthogi toh suraj nahi ugega aur raat ko jaldi so jaogi toh chand nahi dubega" You get dialogues like this only in a Vishal Bharadwaj film. There is so much poetry in the dialogue and every scene is probably worth two scenes of a conventional spy film because of shots loaded with allegory. I agree the 3rd act of the film felt anti-climactic. Couldn't really buy into the "karwa chauth ka vrat" scene. I could see it that the director wanted to show how actual spies are sometimes so goofy and less suave but this scene in the 3rd act felt bizzare. Raj and DK do humour in spy films better than Vishal Bharadwaj. But this shouldn't be the only reason to judge Khufiya. There is a very beautifully picturised Rekha Bharadwaj sung piece at one point where Krishna Mehra (Tabu's character) is watching Charu (Wamiqa Gabbi) who's listening to the song. And KM is taken back to the 1st time she heard it from someone really close while spying. This was one of the best moments of the film and probably how all of us deal with familiar music and grief. Another well written scene involves a foreshadowing of the death/disappearance of an important character with a nice dialogue by the hospital bedside. The mother in law (played by Navnindra Behl) was a surprise for me. Could never have imagined a psychopath in senile individuals. That was fresh. I really liked the portrayal of that Godman and their usually shady financial past. Perhaps the climax would have felt more gratifying if VB had built up the villain in the story. Like apocalypse now (Colonel Kurtz played by Marlon Brando) or tinker tailor soldier spy (Karla played by no-one). They could have showed how smart or cunning or meticulous that bad general was. In that case the run time would have been significantly longer and maybe a short series would have been appropriate. But all in all the film would be fondly remembered by cinephiles and fans of understated espionage thrillers because the story attempted to be more than itself because of the queer themes (which at no point tried to attract attention on itself. It felt spontaneous and at no point felt like forced representation of queerness in films); major geo-political consequences of acts committed by all the characters and the poetic dialogues even though it was let down by the climax. Who'd have thought that the protagonist is named Krishna because it is a gender fluid name?

I was confused with the tone of the movie. It was tense in simple moments but fell flat in the high octane scenes. The emotional dynamic was weird ..neither too engaged nor too detached. The completely oblivious young wife dances around in the house but then becomes a spy just because she suffered a loss with barely any training. The only interesting character was the older lady..Excellent actor and hilarious too! Loved all her scenes. Tabu is always good but she has done this role to death. The lesbian part was super forced and there was zero chemistry between her and Octopus.

Yes, boycotts will surely happen, but it would have easily released. Just like imagine if movies like Kashmir files and Kerela story releasing a decade ago. Amma was hilarious. Personally, this film was more of a drama to me than anything else. There is a poetry to Vishal sir's brand of storytelling that kept me engaged throughout the film even though it dragged abit in some places. The cast and the character dynamics were superb. Tabu alone is a walking master class but waqima and ali held their own beautifully. I liked it

the best part of the movie? Tabu and Navnindra Bahl, i think they killed it in their performance. the bad part about the film was that it completely fell flat in the last hour or so, all that built that should have led to the edge of the seat drama was not there, which we expect in a spy thriller. also Indian Ocean was a good relief. it hurts me to say being a huge Vishal Bhardwaj fan that all in all the movie missed a mark.
