Khat: Dangerously Addictive Or Harmless Upper?

Sometimes called a “natural amphetamine”, stuff this plant’s leaves in your cheek and you’ll get a jolt of energy. This is khat.

It clearly causes problems but banning such substances never works. It needs legalization and regulation with the social support for add¡ction recovery. Caffeine is really not 'harmless' though. It's the world's favorite drùg along with ethanol.

I was going to mention this too, caffeine is far from harmless. It's really bad even but so many drink it every day without thinking about it, has a lot of nasty health effects that people usually completely ignore since they can't imagine not drinking it. Talk about addiction at its finest. To be fair I used to drink coffee many, many years ago but I stopped and that's when I realized how bad it was and how little it actually did.

Cathinones are not amphetamine-like, they are true amphetamines, chemically. Amphetamine is alpha-methyl-phenyl-ethyl-amine; cathinone posseses all of this structure, with an additional ketone on the beta carbon of the amphetamine, which gives the amphetamine a cocaine-like "kick", and reducing its duration of action somewhat.

It's more than likely they were not familiar with the effects and panicked when they were not in any real danger. If challenged by adults on their intoxicated behaviour and those adults react in a 'shock, horror DRUGS' manner that will increase the panic and hyperventilation of the teenagers. I've seen a similar case myself. The same with people who go to casualty after taking too much cannabis, usually first time users, who panic and feel out of control when they are in no danger at all and just need to lay down and calm themselves for a while. The reprimands of hospital staff doesn't help either.

@myboysd5772 Every single minute of every day, you are at risk of war. And your consumption of coffee methodology has no influence whatsoever. Intelligence should always be a factor in coffee consumption. However, only minimally to drinking it. There is the paramount necessity of being able to provide yourself with a first cup of the day of such quality that most of the lyrics of the song "My Girl" seem to apply to it. The brain is usually minimally engaged in preventing scalding your tongue and not drinking in bouncy castles. When your doctor says "only one cup in the morning," a brain does more work to prevent you from blurting out about afternoons and evenings being unlimited. And your brain also helps you find the largest possible cup for that morning Joe. I hope all this helps you in your pursuit of a happy life. Oh, and it is always a wise choice to not stand too near overstimulated individuals who feel that they have been given the shitty end of the stick for centuries.

Coffee is healthy especially filtered coffee that removes cafestol that increases bad cholesterol. Coffee contains large amount of antioxidants, prevents dementia and is good for liver. Overall filtered coffee consumed black or with milk without sugar is overwhelmingly healthy comparable to large dose of vegetables.

I find that taking a Valium with coffee negates SOME of the harm from the caffeine. Now I need something to lessen the harm from the Valium. 🧐

The dose makes the poison. Unless you're already suffering from heart issues and don't consume a copious amount of it (generally speaking, you shouldn't go over 4-6 cups a day, depending on the strength and type of coffee), it's really not a concern. Plus, it does come with a selection of benefits.

The statement is based on amount consumed and it taking effect vs harm. Coffee is harmless because caffeine in coffee takes effect way before a dangerous dose. But, if you take cocaine or maybe Khat it causes harm in exchange of the effect taking effect

A few caveats about khat in Kenya: 1: Women were traditionally very heavily involved in crop cultivation, going back centuries, while men would be involved in pastoralism. 2: Chewing khat is seen as a very low status thing to do by poor people. 3: It’s not done by women for the most part, thankfully. But it causes impotence in men.
