In the post fight conference, Islam said Khabib in the corner is invaluable because of the knowledge he has. He would have told him to transition to full mount in one of the sequences. It's fair game I guess. Every fighter is entitled to a corner of 3 people, up to you to bring the best possible people.

He won the fight - no excuses required. But, it is now clear that like Khabib, he cuts too much weight, he won't be able to do it as he get's older and guys his size with good grappling (Gilbert, Burns) and decent striking are going to give him some serious problems.

Khabib probably took himself away so Islam can be his own champion Islam won the fight it was very close but volkanovski I was rooting for him and he did great!

I said this the moment I heard the news. Being away from mma doesn’t mean you can’t take a flight out to be in your brother’s corner. Khabib did it because the whole world had started saying how Islam relies on Khabib being in his corner. Khabib wanted the world to see Islam being the stand alone best p4p fighter that he is. I 100% believe that was the reason.

The fight was so close that I believe Islam wasn't trusting his wrestling and worrying about his striking volkanovski was worrying about his wrestling and not worrying about his striking reason being because Islam can actually strike so that played against volkanovski and volkanovski can actually wrestle that played against Islam should be interesting the second fight

The fifth round domination by Volk was more impressive than eventing Islam did the whole fight. A real champion would be upset by that performance.

He's going to learn so much from this fight. Congrats to Islam. It was like the MJ flu game he won't admit how bad he felt, but we could all tell walking into the ring he wasn't himself. He showed championship heart by winning. Volk may have even out weighed him there, Islam looked much frailer than usual, less muscular.

In every story, theres always a mentor then the mentor should always die/disappear so the student would stand on his own. Actually this is very good for Islam. It'll break or make him.

That is how you know you have a good corner around you. Even after this controversial win - Khabib pointed out one of his flaws in the fight. The win is nice but to stay on top you need people around you who can give feedback to keep you there.

I still don't understand why Khabib called out Volkanovski and then doesn't show up for the fight...

Volk won the second and the fifth. The way people score fights is weird. The beginning of a round is not as impressive as the ending of the same round. The beginning of a fight is not the same as the end of a fight. The first four rounds were very close and Islam did not look much better than Volk. After four rounds of a very even match Volk broke through and showed he was the better fighter. Islam wins because of the system but Volk kicked his ass and Islam knows it

In a street fight if a guy like Islam gets a hold of you and takes u down even if it’s in the start of the fight then that’s it you are done because in a street fight the referee/system wont make u stop and take a break after every 4 -5 mins. Volk was lucky that it wasn’t a street fight.
