Hey Valerie, I don’t really know how to start this but you’ve truly become an important person in my life … although of course I don’t really know you, I feel deeply connected in what you’re talking about in your videos. When I started watching your videos, I just loved your art and the aesthetic in your room and films and life. But now I love how you’re also interested in self-development and improving not only your art, but also your mind… and I just wanted to thank you for showing me the good in life over and over again, inspiring so many people with what you’re doing. I really hope you can find and keep the deep peace that lies within us. You deserve to be happy so much 🤍

The flow works because all your attention is focused on your hands and getting it "right", there's no room for anything else. I find it works best if you don't have much background noise. Music is alright, but often silence is best. Unless what you do is repetitive, you're tired, on a deadline or it's too easy for you, in that case, background noises helps to calm your mind. As for tapping into your subconscious, I think it's mostly because you let it free in a way. You trust your guts and don't use your thinking brain as much. Doing art is a lot of different small decisions that you make all the time from color mixing to the brush you use, to how you paint something. You can't make rational decisions for these, so you trust your judgement (your subconscious) either way, lovely calm video :)

So true - when I tell people I can't paint with music on, they don't get it. It blows my mind that artists and even writers listen to loud music in the middle of creation. The flow state is a magical thing, and best experienced in a bubble.

I think music helps some people while it hinders others. Sometimes listening to music is the only thing that will calm my anxiety enough to get into the groove of things or energize my fatigued body and mind enough to start working, which then allows me to get into a flow state. It's important to know what works for you as an individual.

this is by far the favourite part of my day, I can’t begin to tell you how inspired and peaceful I feel after watching your videos. I have a little notebook of artist that inspire me and you at the top! Not only do you paint and draw beautifully, you give the best advice and you are honest with your struggles. I share my room and have young sisters who cram toys everywhere. I never felt inspired in it but because of you I decided to try and change some things. I was able to take an old small table from the balcony and put it against some wardrobe I don’t use. I hung my art in front and arranged it in a way that was inspiring. And now when I wake up I feel like tackling down my chores and sitting in that little corner to improve. So thank you, thank you very much for all the efforts that you make when providing content for us. There is incredible meticulous detail in your videos, the editing is incredible. The different angels and shots makes it so beautiful and I just can’t say it enough tbh. Keep doing what you love ❤️

Your note on decorating being a form of self-care and a way to experience beauty was something I didn't know I needed to hear. I've been very much into minimalism lately as a way to stay focused on tasks and not spend so much time on extraneous ornamentation,, I would curse myself for spending hours decorating my apartment when I could be doing other things, but you helped me to realize that decorating is just as important as cooking a meal for yourself, or getting a good night's sleep. Lovely video and best wishes💙

Hi Valerie, I love your videos, they are one of the things that have been helping me to get back into painting and drawing after a 12 year block. Painting and drawing is one of the few things that puts in a flow state. It’s like the thoughts drift into my mind and I acknowledge them but they don’t distract or disturb me, because I’m focused on what I’m doing. It’s different to studying, where your trying to absorb and memorise and understand, it’s more like instinct xx

I've been painting all my life, but I've stopped for years.. because of the bad times of my life and mental health, I started to paint less and less, until I stopped definitely. Now working on my self, I realized that painting is a part of me, my peace of mind, and a way for express myself and I decide to start over. Thanks for your motivational message and your beautiful videos✨❤️

One of my college friends and I have started painting and drawing...we're both 68 (well...he's 69 ;-)) and at a time in our lives where the kids are grown and we no longer have to work. He and his wife live about 4 hours from us and so I rarely see him, but we share videos of people who inspire us to do better with our art, and to be better people. I just shared your video and your channel with him...he's a retired teacher and I know how proud he would be of your work and your willingness to share your work and thoughts with others. That makes you a teacher. And that's one of the grandest and most wonderful gifts we can give to one another...to teach. Thank you, Valerie, for your work and thank you for your kindness.

Dear Valerie, I usually watch your videos on my tv and it is hard to write a comment. I’m now using my iPad and be able to let you know how much I love your channel. I’m a grandma and I love my grandkids, but my love for oil painting is endless. One of my nieces live in Berlin and when I see you, it reminds me of her. I watch other videos about journaling and painting but by far your channel is the BEST! Your entire personality, your disposition to handle situations and the control you have over your daily life are all amazing. It is a great way to be the best mentor for everyone. You are such a great inspiration to everyone. I long for each video because I know how great they are. I had a bad case of COVID that left me with no desire to paint. Last week, I decided to start all over and never give up regardless of the circumstances. This video in particular has so much meaning and a great message to all of us. I’m lost for words to tell you how much I admire you, your work, your experiences! Each video reflects the quality in you in every aspect of your life. Blessings for each day and much success in your career! Please take care. Greetings from Champaign, Illinois, USA I will watch your older videos to update myself. Much love and hugs.

i'm so in love with your videos 🌷 they're art. everytime i feel so hopeless and powerless in my abusive life situation i watch your videos, first, like a manifestation, promising myself "that's the life i want and i will get for myself, i want all that peace, all that warmth, all that nature, food and beautiful decorations in my future". second, because in all the chaos and pain visually it makes me feel so good inside, at home, what a beautiful home looks like, all the aesthetic, the environment, how organized, calm and elegant you are, watching you going to buy suplies or for a walk, how you paint and how you look is therapy. and third, your words. you don't just paint, make some tutorials and that's it, you share personal stories, your growth so people see they can make it too, you give useful and logical advice with a warm smile too, you're not throwing empty positive words and talking as if life is a fairytail or saying something "logical and honest" but being cruel and disguising something bad, you're just being human. listening to you gets back my hope, my power, my inspiration and gives me peace, something very difficult for me. you make me feel happy and powerful not because you say "happy words" or a basic motivational speech, it's because you open my eyes and make me remember there's things i can control, there's things i can't do but there's plenty things i can do, i have to fight and make efforts and decisions, speak up, dedicate hours in my day to do things that make me happy and focus on myself, trying not to waste my time being so anxious and worried, you give me energy to wash my clothes, do the bed, make me food, draw, listen to music, buy lil things for myself and take care of me. things are not easy but sometimes fear, anxiety and shyness make them bigger than they are and they make you doubt a lot and convince you not to even try, just give up, and now i try everything and 90% of the time it wasn't that bad and i discover a new thing i like and feel powerful. thank you so much for your videos 💐

This really was a wonderful video Valerie, thank you! To me being in flow is so much more than being productive, its when your one with your environment and mind, when everything's in resonance. For me flow happens whenever I plug in my headphones and go walking in my lonesome. I just walk and let my mind wander wherever it wants, whether it's a dream, fantasy or nothing in particular. I think the most important part though is like you said, just being in the moment, without thinking about your fears or anxieties. Also I really liked the addition of chapter zero, I've just started coming out of a rut and that gave me some motivation to do things I've been neglecting for a while. Your videos really help me so I just wanted to say thank you again and I really look forward to the next one!

I'm a beginner artist myself and I always struggle through things if i couldn't draw something or I'm lacking practice ..not getting ideas and being frustrated about that then destroying paintings over painting because they doesn't look like how I want them to be .. seeing you working while I'm working or just playing your video in the background makes me feel like I have friend who is guiding me through tough times ..i love your work...love your voice..love the lights and colours of the video sounds in it..so many things i don't even know right now that I like .. sometimes i hope I could edit or flim so beautifully..( hopefully someday ) here's a werid letter for you with alot of gratitude and love and hugs and alots of best wishes for upcoming future ❤️✨ - a fan of yours

Dear Valerie! It is the first time I am writing to a video blogger: you are amazing! Your videos inspire me so much. I am also an artist and a designer and you inspire me to go back to what is important for me. I have a question: how do you manage to be in the moment when you constantly have your camera on? I usually get too self-conscious when I try to record myself, so I quit and just enjoy the process of creating. And one more: how to you make videos from so many different angles all the time? Do you have multiple cameras all over your house? If it is too nosy - just ignore the question;) And thank you, again! You have become very significant for many people….

What you call "flow state" in spiritual teachings is called "presence" to be in the moment. I learned this through meditation and study and I am so impressed that you learned it from experience, you are a wise soul Valerie and I love the wisdom you share in your videos. Also I want to make a suggestion, your work is gorgeous and I know I am not the only one who would like to have one of your pieces decorating our homes, but alas hard to share the one piece so I was thinking you could open a prints store so we can buy your gorgeous work and support you at the same time. I recommend "Inprint" (or maybe its "Imprint" one of the two) its a artist's run print store where thry handle the printing and shipping and you get 50% of the sales unlike many other sites that give you a tiny percentage. Also I do not work with them or anything but I know of them for a long time and it seems good, I was on Society6 but honestly it felt like being used and taken advantage of, there's no respect for the artist there. Anyways that's my suggestion, I hope one day I can have a print of your beautiful paintings. 😊

Beautiful video💜🌷... The most of the times, while painting I catch myself thinking so many things, from bad issues that happened to me to completely irrelevant issues from my everyday living, like I am in a nirvana that time🤔but it works for me, I don't know if it is a toxic way, but I find this anti-toxic in the end😄.. Loved the idea of having a gouache painting at first and then create oil painting, brilliant method Valerie 👌🌟have a wonderful and creative week!!

for me flow state is either when i'm acting or drawing. Sometimes while i act i'm so focused that i loose the sense of reality but at the same time i'm present and ready. for this i really love acting and i think it's a form of meditation. I feel like this when i'm drawing too. However, i'm kinda struggling with it because i always have ambitious ideas that with my knowledge i just can't create. your videos help me a lot. even if you create majestic pieces i don't feel the frustration that i feel with other creators. you are always honest, kind and wise. your advice are really changing how i see the world and your videos motivate and calm me. thank you so much
