    For clarification, in case there are others out there that are not aware of this, it is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE to place a 4x4 post in the ground as long as you have written permission by the land owner or manager. This is the quote from the Geocaching Guidelines : from the section on burying a cache - "The only exception is if a property owner gives explicit permission to create a hole to place the cache, which you must provide to the reviewer and state on the cache page. A cache cannot require the finder to dig to reach the cache. See the Regional Geocaching Policies Wiki for details in your region." Of course I received written permission from the land manager to bury the 4x4 post and submitted this and a picture to the reviewer when I submitted my cache for approval.

    Hey Josh, between "life" just getting in the way and very slow internet speeds ( you've been here, you know how remote I am) I've been remiss. Feels good to get another one out. I have another scheduled for next week and several more on my new GeoTour planned in May. It's only been out for a couple hours and everyone has been so nice.... love it.

    My personal findings, the more public the less damage I have. I prefer to place my caches in busy public places. I prefer small businesses, they really watch out for my caches. They love having people being there, many times dropping in the business to say "thank you", they actually take ownership of the cache.

    Hello WVTim. I started geocaching in August 2019 and your channel quickly became my favorite caching related channel on KZread. I hope to be able to place copies or twists of some of the caches you have videos on here around my hometown in Sweden, as there are very few gadgetcaches here.Any tips for making the "it's a hoot" cache (where you need to inflate a baloon)? How did you make the teeter-totter and weigh it down on one side?

    Great cache! How did you install the nut that holds the key? It must be attached or glued so it does not spin. Also, are there instructions in the cache on how to leave the key bolt perpendicular so the chain goes through and does not tip off the next cacher? I would recommend that the fake keys are put on a ring and chain so those who can't figure out the cache won't assume someone lost or took the real key.

  • @timeggleston1440

    @timeggleston1440

    3 жыл бұрын

    Video at 6:30 shows how the key is attached to the bolt. No, I don't leave instruction on the cache page to keep the bolt perpendicular because the only way to place the chain thru the bolt is to have it perpendicular. I have not had a problem with people resetting it. The chain was cut at the exact length, to make it go back in only one way. Great idea on putting the keys on a ring, I think I will do that the next time i"m there doing maintenance. I will use thin stranded wire with a clinch so no keys can be added or subtracted. Great idea.... thank you.

    The effort is certainly appreciated, and it's great to see a new one, but I feel this teaches cachers to be rough with gadget caches, with all the pulling hard and apparent support disassembly. Escape rooms had to learn why this is a bad idea before, and puzzle rallies before them.

  • @gadgetcaches

    @gadgetcaches

    4 жыл бұрын

    Nothing rough about this one, I've my fair share of damage, so I am aware of the concern. But, the chain is only held in place by the magnet and comes apart easily, and unscrewing is very easy, but I appreciate your commets.

  • @gadgetcaches

    @gadgetcaches

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment, because there is still a lot of misunderstanding of the rules..... Let me clarify and give you a quote that you can read from the published rules as well as I would suggest you look up for your own understanding. NO, this is NOT against any rule, it's perfectly acceptable as long as you get "explicit" permission to bury the post.... which means you need to get "written" ( HQ calls it explicit) permission and submit that to the reviewer with your submission. That is exactly what I did as well as I ALWAYS submit a picture of my cache. This is the EXACT quote from the GUIDELINES.... "The only exception is if a property owner gives explicit permission to create a hole to place the cache, which you must provide to the reviewer and state on the cache page. A cache cannot require the finder to dig to reach the cache. See the Regional Geocaching Policies Wiki for details in your region."
