Keychron K4 V2 REVIEW: Wireless Hotswap Budget Keyboard!

SHOT ON SAMSUNG GALAXY S20 with FILMIC PRO APP.
Had so much fun working on this one. I really wanted to step up the production over my last one so I picked up some cheap lights and tripod from amazon, and got an app for my phone called Filmic Pro that lets me adjust some shooting profiles and framerates better than the stock camera app. One day I hope to pick up a decent mirrorless camera to really step things up but liked the challenge of working with what I had.
The Total MSRP of the build was actually cheaper since I snagged most of these parts on Black Friday sales so would recommend getting things on sale if you can, it brought the total closer to $178!
Peep the Egyptian God Card flex at the end.

OTHER MUSINGS:
My goal when I started this second video was to accomplish a major leap in quality over my first one. I wanted to improve on all aspects from production, post and everything in between. Better music! Better graphics! Better shots! Better editing! Better Color! I got very ambitious and began to become self critical on every little aspect along the way. It became quite an anxiety fueled quest and I slowly stopped having a good time because I was never perfectly happy with the way I was shooting something or how an edit came together.
Eventually, once I fell into what I would call the 'flow state' of shooting and editing, it all clicked for me. I took a step back from the pressure, let myself learn, make mistakes, and have fun, and the joy started coming back into the process. I enjoy and need this other creative outlet besides my day job. Looking back on this completed video vs my first one, and I think I really did achieve a solid step up over my last one. I've got a better workflow, edit faster, and for my future videos, I will definitely be focusing more on just being a bit better every single time.

Really glad you went over modding this board. My friend just got the same and thought it was great out of the box (doesn't have experience in the hobby). He bought Gat black ink v2's and some solid PBT caps and I modded the stabs and case for him. He's blown away by the results, I was a little disappointed it came with plate mounted stabilizers, but it makes it easier for beginners and after a bandaid and some di electric grease we were in business.

The only difference is that I replaced the spacebar, esc, and the two enter keys with a pbt 4 key set with snow and a lady with red umbrella (pretty easy to find). I use it for work and I love it actually. I have some other KBD fans tofu based keyboards with other switches, etc. but for a 10 hour day typing at the keyboard, it's pretty comfy. it's not my favorite keyboard, but it IS my favorite keyboard for long stretches of work. oh, and my keys feel pretty smooth, but they have texture if you pay attention. they are not slick at all, but they don't feel rough either.

  • @nloop

    @nloop

    3 жыл бұрын

The foam was a much more subtle difference, it decreased a pining/reverb noise that I noticed because the body of the is hollow. It was a bit of a hassle to cut up the foam and shove it in there, and you have to take out the PCB. The main culprit of noise would be the switches and keycaps on this, so zilents should really do the trick. If it's still loud or you notice an echo/reverbation throughout the board, it may be worth taking a second look at the foam but you should be fine.

@@ReQuiem_2099 Lube definitely changes the feel of the switch, and it's a process, but definitely worth it in my opinion. Makes it feel much nicer. The best part about hot swap is you can build the board, and if you feel like you want to add the lubricant later, you can just take out the switches and apply it. Regarding the keyboard foam, definitely check out this video by taekeyboards so you can see how he does it to his K6. I used it as a guide when I did mine kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6iCtLGLY8a4c5s.html

@nloop, Nice keycaps. I have a question. What makes you buy the keycaps and not ymdk brand? The aesthethic of it are clean and got some Japanese culture into it, superb. My second question is that, can you make a video of how to put the foam inside the keyboard? haha this K4 is on my target list tbh, but so far I think your review are great and address the problems and mitigation. I am new into this matter and I choose keychron due to the name and wireless feature. Iqunix theme are really nice but the max spec are like $250, so it's a no brainer to get it.

I used it as a guide when I did mine kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6iCtLGLY8a4c5s.html And I also looked at the iQuinix and I think they would fix a lot of the complaints I had about the keychron, especially if they release a hotswap version of that board.

As a total noob myself, I bought this keyboard because it hit all the stuff I want. And this form factor is hard to find, especially with wireless. If you have time, I would be interested in seeing how you made the changes you recommended to make this keyboard a next-level keyboard. Like what to do with the foam, how you decided between the switches, plus installation, etc. I know hot-swappable is easy enough, but just your complete setup guide on this would be cool to see if you have time. Great info, thanks for the advice - looking forward to upgrading mine as soon as I get it :)

Music way too loud or voice way to quiet. If I have the volume loud enough to hear you speak then when the music cuts in over the switch swap montage, its loud enough that my neighbours can hear it.

I'm interested in this keyboard and will use it for gaming and work. Why are the reds better? If I leave it plugged into my pc via USB-c, would it cut down on the lag? I game on a pc and work on a mac.

@@AndrewScarella Reds have a clickyness which is great for typing. But keys arent hard to press down which is good for gaming. The USBC cable does cut down lag, especially when a lot of your peripherals are on bluetooth

I modded the devil out of my K4v2, now every press feels and sounds like a kiss from an angel. The PC/Mac switch is a true lifesaver for me. A compact keyboard with a numpad is a match made in heaven (although they should offer hot-swap ISO boards also, I had to get ANSI board and then localise it some).
