As a self-taught artist, your videos are invaluable. I love them! I'm naturally pretty good, but most of what i do is instinctive. I've always wanted to get your level of good. Always been my goal. I'm close, but definitely a level below for now. Also, I use soft core prismacolor pencils, but my brush doesn't smooth it out like it does yours..

Thank you! I do feel like blending with solvent works best with oil based colored pencils, vs wax based.

I think a very important point that we learn as colored pencil artists is to stop sharpening our pencils all the time. A super sharp point can emboss the paper. I start with duller points then on fur they will go sharper. Our pencils last longer. I got 3/4 of the way in a larger all colored pencil painting before I just had to give the ends a point for detail now. It’s ok to let them sit un sharpened no matter what instructor said it isn’t right. This was on ClaIrfontaine Pastelmat also so one doesn’t have to think that they will use all of their pencils up on that substrate. Working on drafting paper Grafix to be specific takes far less layers 3 ish and can give unique effects with the oms. I use a Caran’de ache waterbrush that has the fibrous tip because my oms is double protected and will not leak. I fill it with the plunger then turn the top on. I can pull up to the brim. The tip self cleans on paper towel and I store it tip up, it doesn’t leak in any of my bags and has a nice tip or side tip fro larger blending and causes no problems with the fumes. I probably go through a new one every 15 paintings because I am tough on them. Much better than opening up a lid and a full one lasts through out the day and it saves on money. Anyways having tips to share makes the process easier to grasp. Anyone can do it.😊

I appreciate your videos, and your points are excellent. A suggestion though is to slow down when you make an important point and highlight it on a cue card. This way the point sticks with your audience and they want to come back for more. Trying to rewind or slow down the video to absorb what you just said can be frustrating.

Thank you for the video. A few questions about fur. How many layers can be expected for realistic fur? Does it change much between short-hair and long-hair? And how many layers of solvent are usually expected?

It all really depends on the color and type of fur. Long fur requires more different color layers, and light colored short fur doesn't require hardly any layers.

Drawing long fur is more about focusing on soft long shapes rather than individual hairs.

Everytime I find an amazing colored pencil artist but then I see that their most used tool is OMS I can't help but get a little sad because I can't use it so I can't apply the same techniques. It gets me a little light headed which can be manageable, but I have pet birds so I can't use solvents. Alas
