Kew Gardens - The Rose Garden (4K)

Join Kew Horticulturist, Richard Moore on a walk around the Rose Garden at Kew Gardens! The roses are in full flower throughout the summer months at Kew and its a must see area for anyone visiting. The Rose Garden contains a huge variety of roses filling the air with a heavenly aroma when in flower with the iconic Palm House making a picturesque backdrop. In this video I show a few of my favourite roses as we walk around and talk about how we maintain and prune our rose collections at Kew.
Kew Gardens is a world famous Botanical Garden and one of the largest in the world with a collection of over 50,000 plants. As well as being one of the most beautiful ornamental gardens in the world the plant collections at Kew provide an invaluable resource for scientific research and along with the Millennium Seed Bank, Kew is working to conserve endangered and threatened plant species from around the world.

I loved this! Society always presents being famous as exciting, but I think a horticulturist could be one of the most rewarding careers, exciting and inspired by natural beauty all day long.

I've truly enjoyed each of your videos. I was fortunate to visit Kew in May 2018 and have been transported back, from Maine, USA with each video. Thank you so much. I wish you all the best. Peace.

I visited Kew Gardens about twenty years ago. Unfortunately, I knew very little about roses at that time. The rose garden is really impressive but it is quite, well, monotonous. I prefer mixed borders but I understand that this type of "mono-culture" is much easier to take care of. I spend a lot of time weeding the ground between my perennials, annuals and roses :-) I wonder how much watering the rose garden requires per year, the cost of the water must be enormous.

Thank you for commenting! There really is something to see all year round and I always enjoy the change of the seasons; Spring around May time is probably a favourite for most people with so much in flower at that time! :)

Are you standing at full height at 03:05 minute of your video or did you kneel down to take video of Rosa "Princess Anne"? What is the maximum height Rosa "Princess Anne" reaches in your garden?

I am kneeling kneeling down. In full flower it’s about 1 - 1.2m tall. Pruning it down to about 80 cm in February encourages a good flower display so it normally only reaches a maximum height of 1.5m by the end of the year. It’s a beautiful variety!
