The true measure of a mimic's talent is if he never has to TELL the audience who he's doing; that the impersonation is so good that you KNOW who it is immediately. Kevin does a great job.

What makes Pollack's impressions so much fun is that he doesn't try to be _identical_ to the person he's impersonating. He does their defining characteristics at about 120%, and you can't help but laugh at how distinctive each of the actors is. His Kirk is the funniest I've ever seen because of his ability to exaggerate Shatner's acting quirks just enough.

I had tears in my eyes from laughing so much at his impersonation of James Kirk. You are absolutely right - it's the exaggeration of the little characteristics that make it funny.

Hands down, the single best Nicholson you will EVER hear. Mostly because he doesn't go for the catchphrases -- he plays the "calm" Nicholson, the snarky Nicholson, the one who is BUILDING to the "You can't handle the truth" and "here's Johnny" lines, without ever getting there. Close your eyes, you can't tell them apart. Pure magic.

@SmithandJones256 The fact that most people in watching TV/Film in the 70s and 80s could tell you who Shatner was, and even when someone was doing even a even shoddy impersonation of him, should tell you how well known he was. His distinctive his mannerisms are a massive part of that. He stood out.

@jeffreese1828
Жыл бұрын
@betaneptune Lol ! Like that hand gesture is episode specific. Maybe not just ONE episode , mind you , but not all the time , either . Think about Kirk imploring some menace on the view screen to spare his ship . His crew . Can't you "see" the hand gesture ? The swinging face , admittedly , is exaggerated to a high degree to properly spoof Shatner's own exaggerated acting style . Are you just curious of specific examples ? You're not being defensive ? Because Pollack's impression comes from LOVE of the character and the actor . For me , James Kirk is , easily , in myTOP 5 , in Pop Culture/fictional characters , across ALL media , including Literature , Movies , TV , comic books , etc. THAT'S a lot of characters ! A lot of FANTASTIC characters ! But if I had to choose , among all these "characters ", if I had to pick just 5 , ULTIMATE HEROES , there would be a place for Kirk ! Would just HAVE TO BE , right ? Now. I was very sad when I heard of the actors who portrayed other champions , like McCoy , Scotty and the much beloved , Mr. Spock had passed , but I know I will WEEP for Shatner, just as I wept at the death of Kirk , falling , at last , while selflessly fighting for and saving others . As he always had . I couldn't help it , the character symbolized THAT MUCH to me. So , we are laughing with him , not at him , so to speak ...Shatner. of course , NOT Kirk . Remeber this video in your subconscious...and you will see bits revealed as you re-watch TOS and think "aha. thats what that dude was talking about ! Sorry , I went off on a tangent ,there ! Lol. "JUST" wanted ya to know I'm true Kirk fan and wouldn't be laughing at him , Shatner really , maliciously . Just another way to enjoy the character/actor . Cheers !

Cheers !

Impressed, those are indeed dead-on impressions.
I had NO IDEA that Kevin Pollack was a stand-up comic, and a good one, at that.
This is my favorite Kevin Pollack clip. Brilliant

I like when he did Star Trek 3. “You’re not going to give me the Genesis Device? Okey doke!”

Man, this brings back some memories. Always loved this whole bit! Even when I was too young to even know who these characters were. 😂
man those impressions just brilliant.
Raw and pure talent

I noticed that too. He may have been warming up to the full transformation at the beginning of this video.
He was amazing! Every person he did was “spot on!”
Getting tossed out of the telelift is hilarious! Pollack is amazing!
R. I. P. Robin Williams, Dudley Moore
I seen this years ago. Still one of the best script ever. This is truly awesome. It just needs to include who Bryan is.

Figure skater Brian Boitano. He was one of those celebrities criticized for *not* coming out in the 1980s... 1990s... 2000s.
So much talent!!!! I'm sure tons of hard work had to be practiced, perfect spot on ! Like him as a actor also, Lutenent Weindburgh
I'm watching this for about the eighth time and I still laugh so hard, especially when he does Dudley Moore.
