i can do even cheaper for whole bean coffee. and also whenever i go on vacation, i look for cheap rates on nice hotels. and they usually have tons of single serve coffee pods, bags, etc. and just grab a bunch of them everytime you go to reception. i managed to get like 100 pouches of nice organic coffee. each one is good for a large mug.

Don’t marry a person who doesn’t have a career. That person doesn’t have their act together, and they have no idea what money is worth and how to manage it. Ironically, though they may seem to have plenty of time to be a parent or take care of the house, they won’t necessarily do a good job at either because they are undisciplined. If your marriage doesn’t work out, the law will punish you for supporting this person during the marriage by making you support them after the marriage. I learned this lesson the hard way, and instead of getting ready to go into a comfortable retirement with a partner, I am looking at a minimum of ten more years of work at which point I am still not sure how I will pay for both retirement and support. There are plenty of cautionary tales out there, and “That won’t happen to me because we are in love,” is not a rebuttal. I wish everyone would be more open about the financial consequences of marriage and how to protect yourself.

I understand where he's coming from with "pay off your debt first", but how many ordinary people can achieve the luxury of absolutely zero debt these days? Student loans last years and home loans last decades - and that's assuming you don't get stuck with credit card loans at exorbitant rates. To me it stings when rich people tell ordinary people that they should just "not buy coffee if you can't afford it", as if less well-to-do people don't understand the basic concept of saving money. Of course we do, but when you save money, very often you have to trade-off your time, which is also scarce -- e.g. spending time cooking at home in order to save money eating out, going out of your way to look for sales to save money on everyday items, commuting 2 hours on the subway instead of spending money on cars/taxis, etc. This saps your time and energy, which are also otherwise needed to make money. It's a constant cycle of limited money and limited time. I'm sure he worked hard to get to where he is, but I would also guess that he did not become a multimillionaire by nickel-and-diming $3.82 for every cup of coffee. It's easy to preach saving money when you are rich and have enough spare cash, not only to avoid interest payments by paying everything upfront, but also to hire help to do your cooking/cleaning/etc for you - freeing up the time and energy needed to grow your millions.

I think kevins message really woosh’d you. Student loan debt is the worst kind of debt you can have compared to all other types of debt. Students get really shafted with the interest rate. So yes nickel and dime everything to get that student debt off ASAP because it’s that bad, sacrificing sleep to get up and make your food and coffee, whatever because you gotta speedrun paying it off. Then when you finished (you might find you got used to the routine and if you’re young, you can handle being that frugal) you can decide how to continue on. If you do decide to continue saving as you were, then hey now that money can go into saving for investments. The truth is you are right that it’s hard and that’s just life, doesn’t matter if a rich guy like Kevin tells you this or a rando on the internet. Reality is harsh, don’t fall for the consumerist lifestyle being heavily marketed to you.

How can one keep starting new businesses, one failure after another? Where does that money come from to help you start a new business each time the previous one doesn't work out?

If a business fail, it doesn't mean that there would be no remaining asset. If there is no profit in a business better end it to save the asset, liquidate it then reinvest in another business.

I'm 17 and I'm SUPER pessimistic about my generation's financial situation, however I don't just save a hundred a week, I save all the money I make, which averages out to about 240 a week. I'm looking to get more hours at my job, though.

One thing that tells me he may be a bit out of touch. Invest on saving 100 dollars a week for retirement. Unfortunately you have a lot of people making less than 30 thousand a year. Add rent to that and many folks are struggling just to keep some gas money in their pockets. Just keep tour debt to a minimum and at least invest something even if it's only 15 dollars a month until you earn more. Once you do that surely add as much as possible especially if you work with a company that matches what you put into your 401k
