Kevin Jodrey - The Lost Terpene Profiles of 80s Skunk Strains

Wonderland Nursery's Kevin Jodrey shares his expertise in the unique stanky & skunky terpene profiles of 80s and early 90s Skunk strains. These incredibly loud strains became less popular with growers when Camp enforcement began in Northern California and most growers migrated to fruity and floral strains in order to help avoid detection. Thanks to Kevin, Wonderland Nursery and The Ganjier for sharing this video with us and thanks to True Terpenes for sponsoring this channel. I've smoked home grown dirt weed better then dispo weed you cannot grow weed on a commercial scale every weed requires diffrent environments diffrent lighting. Dispos cut their shit down when it "looks done" no care in the trichome development no care in the curing process which is absolutely important they push it out as fast as they can. Gotta love when big pharma takes over. Shoulda let the people who've been doing this for yearsssssss take over.

    I know exactly what you're talking about. The last time I saw the real skunk was around 98' the closest thing I've seen in years is the chemd and GMO strains, but even then it's just a hint of it, not that nose wrinkling everyone on your goddamn block knows you have an eighth skunk from the '90s.... It literally smelled just like a dead skunk.... I think a lot of it was marijuana was still illegal back then, and a lot of the growers didn't want to grow something that stunk up the entire neighborhood.... Sam, the skunkman himself says he tried his hardest to breed that trait out of those plants, and it looks like he succeeded....

    @@vrab. it has to do with the lack of minerals, hormones, and enzymes in the soil. Not if it was cured in glass or not. The problem with plastics is that they are easily electrically charged, and via the power of static cling; rip trichomes off the bud. Glass doesn’t do this. The problem is people actively choose to not feed thier plants right as they are cash cropping. Buy the same cut they have at the store as flower, Grow your own, grow it with lots of microbes in the soil, even w/ synthetic fertilizers, and you will be astounded by how much better you did than the cash cropper with the exact same clone.

  • @vrab.

    @vrab.

    3 жыл бұрын

    Julian Kirby - the problem exist in indoor grows too. And you can control the feeding schedule with precision, so it has nothing to do with the soil. I’ve grown strawberry banana indoors and the whole grow room smelled like bazooka joe strawberry gum! Ahhh memories. But for anyone who grows, they know about the hay smell if you take shortcuts in curing. Most grow-ops do wet trim (trim then dry time for a week or less) versus the old school dry trim (dry first for 2-3 weeks then trim) which already will cut the terpene and smell production. This is one benefit for small growers who aren’t pressed for turnaround time, they can dry trim. Next paper bag and turkey bags leach the moister wayy faster than glass. Someone doing turkey bags after a wet trim, can start selling it in 2-3 weeks. In glass jars it won’t be ready for at least 4 weeks.

Anyone that's holding on to these old strains should give them out before they die... You're only hurting our own community... Not too mention you can make a lot more money off genetics than flower these days, I live in California everyone has lbs of flower... Amazing genetics is where the real money is if you know what you are doing...

    The fact that growers and breeders where mostly operating illegal in the last couple decades, the main component they focused on was getting high THC levels. This has brought us super potent strains, but unfortunately a lot of other beneficial traits where neglected in that process. Good to see there are still people who don't put high THC levels as the ultimate goal of cannabis breeding!

    I lost a friend last year and just before growing season he died his caretaker gave me a bag of seeds at about 40 seeds in the little teeny bag and she said this you saying give this to you cuz I supplied him the last three years when he was sick with whatever he needed so he was my patient and I gave him what he needed and he was a growler way before me and he got me into cannabis years ago so he turned around and when he died he wish those seeds to me there are from the 80s and 90s and he had his nurse gave them to me not labeled an all mixed up well I grew like you guys are saying I grew all these plants and I just now started rolling up a joint with this one plant and I'll be George may I smoke two hits off of it and it look like I must have spit all over the end of The Joint cuz it look like spit on the inside of the joint was coming up inside the joint was that moisture I have no idea I could not like the joint after three hits I could not figure it out. The Joint part in the end of The Joint was like a rock I don't get if I broke off took a little bud again put it in there let it up again to the same thing you can only pipe this medical cannabis. I just don't get it and I can't smoke a joint it fills up with this looks like you lick spit and it went all up inside the paper none of them not on the weed it's on the paper I don't know why it's it's following the paper but I haven't even finished to join hits from the 80s and 90s decedes Are and they're way better the seeds I had last year that just brings me back to the potency maybe 14 the weed is tightly fluffy so it's not Titan Rock and you let the scissor it this he just crush it smoke it and enjoy it no joints it just clogs up what's cool about listening to your broadcast is it makes me think my strategy it's like playing football you're on the other team and you're growing your plants, my teen girl in my plants and if we can get the discussion between you and I back and forth are if it's only once or twice a year it it it it just bring some more High site to me and for you to be talking to us out there and then it gives you more power more power to feel what you're doing and what you're coming up with what I'm doing what I'm coming up with what your techniques are a lot of people have so much techniques that they fuck up their plans but then when you go to smoke their weed it don't get you high what I learned in the 14 years of doing this flat the plant don't plan it in a little bucket and then take it out and put my garage all over and plant in the ground again Mike reisin in the ground just sprinkling top water and Let It Go watered again let it go next thing you know you got a little like white bugs floating in the water who cares that's going to be in the ground now let it let it dry out for two or three weeks my Verizon little bugs micro the what-do-you-call-it the Ecology of what's going on in the soil is come in a lot will you put your plant in the top of their don't mess with nothing just a little hole in the top of your soil put your seed in there what everybody does is what she comes up they cut State Route it they cut it cut it may prove it I don't touch none of my stuff is going to come up the way God says to come up if it's going to come up with all the the branches open on the right side that's the way to plant plays it I don't truly try to make it even up I just planted Let It Go Let It Go erase all the stuff that I put in my soil through the last 3 months before I start my planting boom it's all it's all all the ships down in there where it where the roots have to go down there to go down and have to go down to seek whatever they can get down there so listening to your broadcast and likes me and my plants God bless you

If plant esters are alcohol based it makes sense why the old greasy flowers had that funk that most varieties fail to have these days? Love you Kevin, thanks for studying and sharing your work.

There are however several notable crosses that are at least 50% of the original genetics. They are Texas Chem, Fallen Angel, and although not acknowledged I believe Venom OG by Raredankness Seeds is a Shoreline offshoot. That should get you close I would try Fallen angel first, seeds are cheap and it looks from the picks closest to what I remember the OG cut looking like. This was way back in 1969, and I had a ‘pencil’ of the stuff which I later learned was the signature wrapping style: cheap brown paper rather like that we used to cover our school books with. Even wrapped you could smell it, but when exposed to air the dankness hit you in the face. Thick, highly evocative impression - Big Bad Druggy stuff indeed. It wasn’t called ‘Poison’ for nothing! Anyway, it sent the ‘newbie’ me to another universe which put me off for the next 25 years (PS I’m back!)

    I had the opposite issue last summer. Grew a Washington Skunk from PNW Roots that was floral on the plant and then cured to be very rubbery. In fact, the ice hash we made from it tasted like serious burnt rubber. It was off-putting for a lot of folks. They kept talking about "residual solvents" but they were grown organically and the only solvent was water. So rare and kind of weird.
