I think Murphy is smart not to. He did everything he wanted. He transitioned from standup to being a huge movie star. He's older now. He's lost his brother. At a certain point in life, it is smarter to step back and let your achievements stand on their own, and enjoy the time you have left. It's shorter than you think and he owes the world and himself nothing.

This was so important for Kevin to say this so energetically and authentically. What a dinner that must have been. Out of all the things that have happened to Eddie Murphy, I imagine that when he lost his brother, it ripped a gaping hole in his universe. It’s okay for him to just enjoy his life going forward. He’ll never be forgotten. One of my most treasured moments was making him chuckle. It was very early in the morning at Universal Studios. He was shooting a film in “the bungalows.” I was walking in on the same sidewalk he was exiting. He was alone. I saw him, recognized him, could see he was “braced for BS.” Out of all the things I could have said, I simply said, “Good morning!” He chuckled and said, “Good Morning.”

I'm old enough to appreciate what Pryor did for comedy (I saw him live) and to have witnessed how Eddie Murphy changed the game. Delirious was a paradigm shift in comedy that still paves the road for comedians till this day. I wouldn't care if Eddie preformed at 1% of the level he was at back then - which would still be better than almost anyone - I want to see Eddie Murphy on stage because it's Eddie Murphy on stage. Till today me and my friends quote Delirious and Raw. Aunt Bonnie is comin' to get me! Please Eddie, we need you. America needs you. The world needs you. These are dark days, and to think that there's a possibility that Eddie might do a show would be like lighting a torch in this darkness. For the love of humanity, do this for the People, Eddie Murphy!

People don't realize Eddie Murphy change Hollywood. From 1981 to 1984, Eddie Murphy was the biggest movie stars in the world. The consensus in Hollywood in the early 1980s was that a black actor could never have the high grossing hit movie. Eddie Murphy did it three times. Trading Places, 48 Hours, and Beverly Hills Cop. Eddie Murphy was on fire.

It's usually the same guys telling their stories. Very hard for new comedians to get a big platform because older comedians lock them out behind the scenes. The hip hop community is a small club too, but not as small as comedy. So from time to time you'll see new artists emerge who are free to badmouth older artists.

He was a freaking rockstar of comedians/entertainers/personalities etc! The man has made hit after hit... many cult classics and mainstream classics as well! And he’s still doing it!

Well Eddie can't tell the same jokes he told in the 80s because he was in his 20s then and his audience were in their 20s as well. Now he'll be 60 in April so his mindset is different. He could still rock the house but just don't expect the same thing from the same person who has grown.

I love the stand up comedians have such a great mutual respect for one another. I think they all have an understanding of how difficult its is and how the art and craft of it is sooo hard to excel at at the upper echelons of the industry. Kevin Heart is a guy who ALWAYS gives props to his predecessors and contemporaries that are doing well. More so however, all across the board comedians really show each other A LOT of love. There a This Is Not Happening clip where Tom Segaera is talking about Bruce Bruce and another clip where several comedians are discussing the great comedian Patrice O'Neal was. In both there's sooo much adoration.

For years I was popular, celebrated and invited everywhere in my circle because people thought I was a phenomenal keyboard player. I had so much energy, charm and charisma that people wanted to be my friend. I played a little bit of every style so people said I was the greatest they’d ever seen and heard Actually I played by ear and never delved seriously into piano music but I kept up the facade that I was fantastic Years later this young kid came into the circle and he literally studied classical, jazz, gospel, Salsa etc, he could read music and play anything with ease. He was phenomenal One night I played and he played after me and destroyed me with absolutely phenomenal performances I felt lost, naked, ashamed and embarrassed I left the circle and never went back I knew I wasn’t nearly as good as that kid I understand Eddie Murphy
