A NEW Version of Bulletproof Coffee (without the caffeine)
Ingredients: Turmeric, MCT Oil, Coconut Oil, Cinnamon, Almond Milk, and Stevia
Keto Recipes: Bulletproof Golden Milk with Turmeric: Thomas DeLauer
Turmeric
Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant - Curcumin is also fat soluble
Curcumin actually targets multiple steps in the inflammatory pathway, at the molecular level.
Curcumin blocks NF-kB, a molecule that travels into the nuclei of cells and turns on genes related to inflammation. NF-kB is believed to play a major role in many chronic diseases (1)
MCT Oil
MCTs are easily digested and do not require the production and utilization of bile
They provide immediate energy because they are able to cross the double mitochondrial membrane very rapidly and do not require the presence of carnitine
This results in the production of excess acetyl-coA, which breaks down into ketones. The rapid formation of ketone bodies gives immediate energy to the brain and body (2)
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contains about 50% lauric acid - When lauric acid is present in the body, it is converted into monolaurin, a monoglyceride compound that exhibits antiviral and antimicrobial properties (3)
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is loaded with powerful antioxidants, such as polyphenols, that protect the body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals
Also improves insulin sensitivity - Your pancreas releases the hormone insulin into your blood, which tells your liver, muscles, and fat tissue to take the glucose from the blood and store it.
Your liver and muscles store the glucose as glycogen, and your fat cells store it as triglycerides. The storage of glycogen expands the size of muscle cells, and the storage of triglycerides expands fat cells.
Cells are sensitive to insulin, they respond to insulin properly by taking in the glucose that the insulin is trying to shuttle out of your blood stream.
The more sensitive your cells are to insulin, the better they respond to its presence in your blood. As insulin sensitivity increases, your body needs to produce less insulin to absorb glucose - helps maintain a lean, healthy body (4)
Study
One study from the journal Diabetes Care, conducted with 60 people with type 2 diabetes, found that the daily ingestion of 1, 3, and 6 grams of cinnamon per day for 40 days decreased blood glucose levels by 18-29% (means that their cells were responding better to insulin)
The group eating 6 grams per day experienced a significant reduction in only 20 days. (4)
Almond Milk
1 cup of almond milk contains 500 IU of vitamin A, 100 IU of vitamin D and 3 micrograms of vitamin B-12 - fulfills 100% of your B-12 requirements and 20% of your vitamin A and D requirements
Vitamins A and D are important for a healthy immune system, and B-12 is essential for blood cell formation and DNA synthesis

My favorite keto recipe I made on the fly is 4-8 oz seasoned (salt, pepper, etc...) chicken breast, diced, pan seared in coconut oil. Once seared I add riced cauliflower, bringing it up to temperature. After 2 mins in the pan I add 8 oz chicken broth and 2 tbspn of ghee or normal butter, stirring for 60 sec. I reduce for 8 minutes, this completes cooking the chicken through. Then I add fresh parmesan cheese and stir. It doesn't look amazing, but it tastes great

I substituted Brazil nuts for macadamia nuts and cacao powder for cacao bars. Then I added pecans and left out the sunflower butter. Throw in 3 tbsp of chia seeds, 1/4 cup of shredded coconut, a few tbsp of stevia, and melt all together with the coconut oil and add a little Himalayan salt and some water to fluff up the mix like nougat. Then put em in the fridge till set and nom away!

I actually ended up making the recipe! Just had one now. I subbed the cacao for unsweetened cocoa because I don't want too much extra caffeine. They're actually pretty good. Kinda like a very dark chocolate treat. Love that you didn't put erythritol as an ingredient. I heard from Lauren Kennedy that there are a few sweeteners that can actually mess with glucose levels. Like when you said that Monkfruit can mess with your blood sugar. I'm excited about my little food diary that's coming in the mail today. You'd think there would be more keto food journals with a little space for ketones and glucose, but I found ONE on Amazon. Weird!

Thomas... check out basil seeds (sabja) as an alternative to chia seeds. They behave exactly the same way as chia and would serve the same purpose. Comparatively, they have fewer calories and less protein. Like chia, their fiber nets out their carbs. They contribute less fat... but if someone is hungry and want a bit of a filler, or what to get that pudding(ish) texture, it's a good way to do it. Also.. check out the Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine uses for basil seed. Pretty interesting.

There's actually no caffeine in chocolate, just theobromine which has a very similar mechanism of action as caffeine but is much less potent.

Hello. Your information is great! Thank you! I heard what you said about nuts, but I'm wondering if they are better in powdered form for digestion? How do you feel about low carb bakes goods, like cookies and breads, especially those using almond flour or coconut flour?

Thomas I recently found your chanel and I think it's extremely informative and you compose yourself very well! That being said please PLEASE do a debunk on the 'What the health' documentary. I'm so confused with all the reactions and don't know what to believe! I know you'll give a honest review and also I'd love a video about the plastic that fish are ingesting and which are the safest as I can't find any information about individual types of fish just a vague overview.. Thanks in advance!

Thomas, Frequently you discuss the benefits of cocao powder. What are your thoughts on using raw, cold-pressed cocao butter in recipes and in fat bombs?

I fast for 24hr everyday on keto, do you have any meal ideas for people who do? Do I have to hit my calories if I'm only eating once per day? I eat a lot of eggs because it's easy to hit my macro, but I'm getting a little burnt out on Cage free organic eggs!
