@ I have a very hard time with this topic of the sex registry. Burglars and muggers re-offend. Why isn't there a registry for them too? Shouldn't divorcees also be registered to let potential dates know they have a history of failed long term relationship? Cheaters? If there is a genetic predisposition towards amoral behavior, and there seems to be, once it's clinically proven and isolated, shouldn't we make those people who have a higher potential to criminal behavior register and maybe wear an arm band? I'm not a fan of kiddie diddling, but it gives me pause to suppose we are "thin end of the wedge" when it comes to this topic. I don't have an actual opinion, I'm just concerned about the potential for an ugly society 50 years from now.

Blackburn outright lied when she called her an extremists and accused the judge of wanting to make CRT a mandatory consideration in federal sentencing. It’s completely untrue and there is no evidence of that in her record. Blackburn and Harley also lied when it was implied that the judge sought to release all criminals during the pandemic. It’s untrue and they offered no proof. It was a smear campaign. Please watch the hearing again and check the record.

Not only that, the key takeaway from this entire session of questioning was just how much Jackson staunchly adheres to her ethical duty as a judge to uphold the law as it exists in its current form. Not in the form that she’d prefer, not in a form that can be easily swayed by politicking, not in the form that serves her personal policy above all else. I saw that interaction live during a break. He sat there and tried to trap her on a couple of points (one about Gitmo detainees and her stand on them, and the other was how she does the work of a judge, what is her methodology) and she just frustrated him by answering as a lawyer who is defending a client and a judge reviewing a case and looking at both sides. Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham and Lisa Murkowski all voted for her. The questioning period seems static. Like always 3 long days per candidate. You can watch day 3 tomorrow at 11am ET on CSPAN KZread. Probably will be another 5-8 hours. The difference is the Supreme Court is a higher position. I would be surprised if she didn't get it. She has friends in the old guard on both sides.

I think the core of the subject here is that she's indicating that many judges disagree with the laws that have been signed in by the Legislative branch, so they've altered their sentencing to accommodate...which kinda poses a speed bump in the effort of checks and balances between the 3 branches of government. You could see it on her face when she had to decide how to answer if she was going to disregard the law on her discretion or not. Sounds like some laws may need revisited as well if they're only addressing receiving porn outside of the interwebs. Christ, it's THAT OUTDATED?! 👀

Judges have to abide by the Sentencing Guidelines, but the Guidelines themselves have provisions for when you're allowed to deviate from them. She followed the law as written, and then recommended that it be changed. Nothing improper about that.

The 'gentleman" from MO was misleading. That's a fact.

The best thing I saw was judicial temperance. Judge Jackson did not lose her cool even when she was accused of liking child pornographers. The GQP tried their best to provoke Judge Jackson. She did not flinch once. She is a true professional. She is like other black women who have to be better than extraordinary to be in the same position as a white male or female, yet she will never acknowlege it. What a difference! Answering pointed questions with grace, knowlege, experience, and class. I don't think she will be yelling "I like beer." True class act. I am learning so much from her example.

She gave well below the allowable sentence and is trying to justify her minimization of the impact of the crime to victims. Minorities are disproportionately targeted by child sex traffickers and pornographers. But hey, getting a black Supreme Court justice is more important than helping the thousands of black children being held captive and raped and murdered in this country. Just close your eyes and give yourself a pat on the back.

A judge imposes the law, following endless steps dictated by law, documenting her thoughts as required by law, and sentences according to the law. Then the ppl who both wrote the law, and the only ones who can change it PRETEND they don't approve because they'd rather pander to the cameras for Karens and Qanon retweets than do their actual job.

Boyd heard the case of Ethan Couch, a white sixteen-year-old from a wealthy family who killed four people and injured nine people while driving drunk, in 2013. Nominees are asked to provide details on 10. Barrett has never tried a case to verdict or argued an appeal in any court, nor has she ever performed any notable pro bono work, even during law school. I copied and pasted the paragraph about her. But I think you get the point that she wasn't, isn't and never will be anywhere close to qualified like Jackson is! Never ever, ever!!!

at least she is not getting anything close to the Brett Kavanaugh treatment. Appointing a supreme court nominee has become way too political agenda driven. Hopefully she does well. I don't see her not going through.

Considering she's gone through a full FBI background check and isn't being accused of sexual assault or being a sloppy drunk with questionable friendships we shouldn't expect to see the same level of circus as Kavanaugh's hearing. We should all expect to hear the uneducated, lame, unnuanced innuendo from those opposed to her nomination though.

this Suprement Court question is an opp for Soviet GOP to discriminate through questions against Mrs Jackson. They sure missed those days, by their infantile behavior...

I was locked up with a grandfather who put peanut butter somewhere and made his grandchildren eat it off….he was sentenced to 5yrs. This is happening in all states. But in her case, she can’t give out that kinda time to certain ppl. But if a different person is caught with a small amount of dope, first time offender, by law she has to throw the book. She’s following guidelines.

I was willing to be harsh on her about this issue at least. But, the fact that she was able to reference back to Congress, and the fact that %80 of judges are ruling within these guidelines, shows she was doing her job exactly right. Plus she tried to educate the criminals to try to prevent future crimes of that nature. She gets a pass from me. And that's hard to say as a parent of a sexual abuse and underage pics victim. I want the guy that did that to fry and get all the worst... But this is about the laws as they are currently written, not our desire to punish.
