However, and this is a big however, judges are granted discretion because cases are fact specific and that is what is used to evaluate each sentence within the constraints we must apply. If you dont like how your constraints work, then change them. You've had 15-20 years to do so. Priceless.

Transgender people seek understanding and support as do those who decide they don't wish to be defined by gender I.e non-binary, gender fluid. The world isn't always perfectly determined as we would want for our own sense of self or peace of mind. But when I need help with the repairs around my home can that person do the job to the skills level that is required is my main concern.

Yep. I reminded me of when I was interning and at my final review the director was so antagonistic and aggressive against me. Instead of asking substantive questions, he was nit picking, trying to find things wrong with my presentation. I saw for the first time how the real world was. Anyway, I got a call back to intern the following year, and he was demoted due to too many complaints about racism in that company. It’s what we have to go through, but hopefully some day it will be a thing of the past.

Yes I do not see how they think this will benefit them? They are going to need every vote they can get. Judge Jackson deserves an award for her patience with these clowns! Her ability to keep her composure, answer each ridiculous question with a polite,and respectful, “Thank You Senator…” when we know that what they deserved to get told was that their questions were clearly designed only to rile up the ignorant and that if they themselves were so ignorant as to not understand her repeated answers, then perhaps it was time they took a seat and let other, more competent people ask the questions, was the most convincing argument of all that she deserves our deepest respect! You fail to realize the importance of such questions, because the answers she doesn't want to give reveal a judge who rules based on her feelings and personal bias, and not the rule of law as it is written.

Why do they televise these hearings? I think it would go more smoothly if the Senators weren’t all trying to score cheap political points, maybe have a soundbite that goes viral.

She demonstrates so much poise, class, and composure. The exact qualities you want when someone is making monumental decisions. They could all learn so much from her!

If you are soft on crime, that does not mean you are beng racist for bringing tghat up. You have used a conjecture as a fact. The questions are legit. The question is, was the ACB confirmation hearing have the same questions? or anybody else?

Spoiler alert, future peoples will look back on the recent hearings as being racist, but there will still be tons of racists in congress.

It is always wrong to pull the race card to deny truth. Josh Hawley asked an honest question based on the true record of lenient sentencing in spite of recommendants by the prosecutor. Race and gender were not the issue. The issue was whether or not she was lenient in her sentencing.

It was pretty obvious even at the time that the blockade of Merrick Garland (and dozens of other Obama nominees) was in bad faith. Of course they were going to force a nominee through if there was an opportunity.

The US Senate should place a limit on how long the Senate will take on the confirmation process for any nominee, once the nomination reaches the US Senate. Federal Judgeships, Cabinet posts, and Ambassadorships shouldn't be vacant for six months, just because the President happens to be of the "opposite party" as the Senate or because of the objections of one US Senator. At the same time, if the US Senate refuses to act on the nomination, the President should exercise his authority to do a recess appointment. Obama publicly stated that he would not use the power of a recess appointment, if the Senate didn't act on filling the Supreme Court vacancy. Obama could have made a recess appointment on Garland in 2016, then the next President would be in the situation of either renominating Garland or picking another person to fill RGB's seat.

That wasn’t a pledge. They just said they didn’t want to do it that close to an election. The thing is, they were trying to be nice. They could have just said they didn’t like garland and didn’t want to confirm him. They were the majority at the time so it was their prerogative.

Funny how Graham throws fits about sentencings of predators but is completely accepting of Cavanaugh, Gaetz, Trump, etc. If the predators are part of their party they have absolutely no issues with them.

It’s easy to call people racist you don’t agree with. Why can’t we see this woman just as a woman instead of a “Black Woman”. She’s a woman being questioned and there’s nothing wrong with that.
