I mean it’s to each there own with style esp a song that’s been out for so long and there so many versions! So depending on how it’s done I don’t mind ppl making it there own! However I do agree that I love her version! Though she still is doing slight runs and etc there just subtle 😊

Actually, I think Idina Menzel was cast in this role originally precisely because her voice wasn't so pretty and sweet. Some characters aren't supposed to be beautiful.

@@straightarrow372 actually, it was stephanie j block, she did all the workshops, but she wasn’t as big on broadway as idina was she said she was so disappointed she wouldn’t open the show.

Wow. Her voice control is amazing. She hit the notes so smoothly. The song is still powerful but doesn't hurt your ears. I love it!

A decade and she is still a queen...

She has excellent diction and a softness and finesse that I don't often have the pleasure of hearing with that level of power

This song hit me so hard because of the lyrics, i gave all i had in a toxic relationship and its been over for 1,5 years still i find myself depressed and i try to get better in therapy and now i heard this song because of a stupid coincidence (airport musical from SNL i wanted to check the original song) I sat there listening to the lyrics and crying because i felt so strong and i felt something else but sadness and loss for the first time in more than a year i cant describe how powerful i felt all of a sudden! My future is unlimited and ill give it a try and defy gravity, thanks to whoever wrote this song and to jake because i came here from an SNL skit because of his part

The Voice audition was so staged it was painful, i’ll never understand why Kerry agreed to it in the first place.

Look up Carole Lombard (actress from the 1930's). She could be her sister...!! Beautiful.

Every time I hear a cover of this, it’s always evident just how iconic and how much of an influence Idina Menzel has had on this show. There may be technically better singers who attempt this but in terms of shear emotional authenticity, there’s no one better than the OG Elphaba, Idina! 🤷🏽‍♂️
