Kerala Style Mackerel Fish - Pollichathu In Banana Leaf | Meen Pollichathu

Ingredients
Mackerel fish - 1 kg
Onion - 2 nos
Shallots - 9 to 10 nos
Green chilli - 3 to 4 nos
Ginger - 1 nos
Garlic - 7 to 8 nos
Curry leaves - 2 to 3 sprigs
Tomatoes - 2 nos
Red chilli powder - 3 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
salt - 1 or 2 tsp
Oil - 7 to 8 nos
Method
First, we have to cut and clean the fish.
Wash them well and set them aside.
Take a pan add mackerel fish.
Then add red chilli powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt.
Then add lemon juiceand mix them well.
Marinated the fish for half an hour.
Then chop the peeled onion and set it aside.
Then chop the shallots and set aside.
Then chop the green chilli and set it aside.
Then chop the tomatoes and set them aside.
Then crush the ginger and garlic into a fine paste and set aside.
Heat oil in a pan and add marinated mackerel fish.
Fry them well until they become golden brown.
Drain the excess oil and set it aside.
Heat oil in a pan and add chopped shallots.
Sauté them well. for a few minutes.
Add crushed ginger and garlic and sauté them well.
Sprinkle with salt and sauté the onion until translucent.
Add curry leaves and green chillies and sauté them well.
Now add the chopped tomatoes and sauté them well.
Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and salt.
Cook until the raw flavour and smell are completely gone.
Remove from the heat and set aside .
Take one banana leaf and place it in the fire. Just heat the leaf and set it aside.
Then place some masala mix on the banana leaf.
Place one fried fish on top of that, along with some more masala.
Fold the banana leaf and make a packet.
Now tie it with a string.
Heat a pan, sprinkle some coconut oil, and place the fish packets.
Then cook both sides for 10 to 13 minutes on a low flame.
Set aside after removing from the pan.
Then remove the tie and open the tasty masala fish fry.
Serve and enjoy the tasty mackerel fish fry with meals.

മുളകുപൊടി : 3 സ്പൂൺ കുരുമുളകുപൊടി : 1 സ്പൂൺ മല്ലിപ്പൊടി : 1 സ്പൂൺ മഞ്ഞൾപൊടി : 1 സ്പൂൺ ഉപ്പ് : ആവശ്യത്തിന് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ : ആവശ്യത്തിന്
പാകം ചെയ്യുന്ന വിധം
മീനിലേക്ക് മഞ്ഞൾപ്പൊടി,മുളകുപൊടി, കുരുമുളകുപൊടി,ആവശ്യത്തിന് ഉപ്പ്, നാരങ്ങാനീര് ചേർത്ത് പെരട്ടിയെടുക്കാം.ഒരു തവയിലേക്ക് എണ്ണ ഒഴിച്ചുകൊടുത്ത് മീൻ പൊരിച്ചെടുക്കാം.മീൻ പൊരിച്ചത് മാറ്റിവെച്ച് ഒരു പാൻ വെച്ച് അതിലേക്ക് എണ്ണ ഒഴിച്ച് കൊടുക്കാം.അതിലേക്ക് സവാള അരിഞ്ഞത്,ചെറിയുള്ളി ചേർത്തു ഇളക്കി ഇഞ്ചി വെളുത്തുള്ളി ചതച്ചത് ചേർക്കാം.സവാള വഴണ്ട് വരുമ്പോൾ പച്ചമുളക് കറിവേപ്പിലയും ചേർത്തു കൊടുക്കാം.തക്കാളി അരിഞ്ഞത് ചേർത്ത് നന്നായി ഇളക്കി മുളകുപൊടി,മല്ലിപ്പൊടി,മഞ്ഞൾപ്പൊടി, ഉപ്പും ചേർത്ത് ഇളക്കി ഗ്രേവി ആക്കി എടുക്കണം.ആവശ്യമുള്ള വാഴയിലെ വാട്ടിയെടുത്ത് തയ്യാറാക്കി വെച്ച ഗ്രേവി കുറച്ച് അതിലേക്ക് വെച്ചു കൊടുക്കാം.അതിനു മുകളിൽ പൊരിച്ച മീൻ വെച്ച് കുറച്ച് ഗ്രേവി മീനിന്റെ മുകളിലേക്ക് വെച്ചുകൊടുത്ത് വാഴയില കെട്ടാം.ഒരു തവയിലേക്ക് എണ്ണ ഒഴിച്ച് ചൂടാക്കി അതിൽ വെച്ച് പൊളിച്ചെടുക്കാം.

    The flavours of the leaf will get infused with the contents inside. The sauteed banana leaf has a distinct flavour overall. The aroma itself is of great depth.

    I was also thinking about the same. I came here thinking Pollichathu means without using any oil. But most of the available videos are of the same. This is kind of '' irattippani ''also as you have to fry the fish as usual and then mix it with the onions and all then wrap it with the leaf and again fry it. Unwanted time consuming too.

    Ingredients 1 Macarel fish (cleaned inside and outside (gills), tails and head). 2 Banana leaf 3 coconut oil (natural) 4 chilli powder 5 salt 6 turmeric powder or paste (grounded turmeric paste) 7 coriander powder Cooking part 1 : take all powder and salt according to your spice level and mix them with fish (give some stripes using knife to induce spice inside the fish). And marinate for 10 minutes. Part 2 cut onions(2 ), tomattos( 1), mashed ginger garlic paste. Cook or pan fry fish. Until it cook. Let it rest. In kadai, add coconut oil, sauté the onions, chilli( green) 3, curry leaves, tomato, gg paste, add powder (salt (enough), chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cook it well.) Part 3 take banana leaf- layered the masala, put fish on top, add another layer of masala on top, and close the leaf as package and toast it in pan with little oil or can directly in fire bites. Let it rest for 5 minutes and eat it with rice.
