Usually in Asian & African countries, people get excited when they see a white person. But has any place in the world made a proverb on that? Well, ancient Keralites did, this same place he is visiting. It goes like this 'sayippine kandappol ...' meaning : "I saw a white man and then I forgot about my daily routine." 😂😂😂 Such realistic and humorous are the people of Kerala. They also integrate well when they go abroad. Perhaps the only state from India who could survive on pasta/beef/bread when abroad 😋. The kids in the show with their 'long haul' 😂 nailed it 🎉 . Amazing how you enjoy and show to the world what no other tourists get to and that too alone! True lover of people you are above and beyond.🎉

Its called Melam. We have this in every big temple festival in Kerala the biggest of it is called Trissur Pooram. This runs on every Malayali's (people from the state of Kerala) veins.

These particular drums and percussion are unique to Kerala and, along with the elephants and the standard bearers on them, form the spectacle of nearly every temple festival held mostly annualy. The biggest of them is the festival (pooram) held in a temple in Thrissur city in April-May.

@@stewthewanderer maybe it this ? what ever it was amazing energy Azhakiyakavu Bhagavathy Temple, located at Palluruthy, near Kochi in Ernakulam, is a famous temple dedicated to the sixteen armed Goddess Bhadrakali. The temple is famous for the annual Pattuthalapoli festival which begins every year from 1st of the Malayalam month of Makaram (January). The festival which lasts for around 25 days receives the largest number of Nattu Thalam, an offering to the goddess in Ernakulam. During the festival days a ritual called Brahminipattu will be conducted in the specially arranged panthal, (dais). Vadakkumpuram Guruthi is another ritual held as part of the Pattuthalapoli festival.

It is on my bucket list ..only I hope the elephants are not harmed with all the noise. I hate to see animals mistreated. Do they have ear plugs for the elephants? India was the only nation to resist the invading armies of Alexander the Great, solely because of the elephants that were ridden into battle. I have seen baby elephants in Africa, in Nairobi, and they are so naughty and playful and so loving. Orphan baby elephants remember their keepers some 30 years later. Such beautiful animals.

There are issues. But the laws are strict each elephant have a time limit, so majority are used only couple of days during a year. There are few bad incidents aswell.

Laws are kinda strict with elephants, recently started replacing them with animatronic elephants because of the backlashes. As the traditions are very old and diminishing it's causing a split in worshippers as well but those Elephants are treated very well. They are fed and nurtured. They grew up in captivity so they are kinda looks dogs. Those chains are just like a leash, elephants can easily break them if they want but it's just there as a leash. But it's still sad because it's be loud and neither the elephants nor the people around have any ear plugs.

Yes it's the Hindus who celebrate the festival to the Godess Durga. Kerala however has a mixed population of Hindus, Muslims and Christians who coexist in peace and harmony
