    Correct me if I’m wrong, but i thought that the crit WOULD make an additive roll for that die. For example, a Weapon Master with D6+D4 would roll and count each die separately. But if the WM crits its roll 2D6+2D4. The rules say to double them and shows it formates like this if i recall correctly. The 2D6 would be totaled together, then the 2D4 would be totaled together (but apart from the 2D6). A “1D6+1D6” crit format doesn’t make sense, because the floor is still zero damage, and the peak is still two per die. But a “2D6 combined” format raises the floor to one damage and the peak is now the top of the damage chart you pretty much never use otherwise.

    If you just wrote in ADV next to your perception in skills I'm pretty sure youd never forget it. Also the half green and half white dice is quite hard to see on the video. I think you could speed up combat when you first check the table on what type of creature it is by just remembering where a crit is, so on the living moss you wouldnt have to check what body part every time as only the head makes a difference , so all you have to remember is that a 19 or 20 changes things but if you roll anything else it doesnt matter really. Really enjoy your playthroughs of all these solo games.

    I think rolling higher is thematically supposed to represent that the combatant was closer to achieving exactly the move they were going for. So: your skill is 60, and you roll a 59 - that's a near perfect strike - but if you rolled a 03, yeah you landed a strike, but it wasn't ideal . . . But I totally see why it would make more sense, intuitively, to want to have the lowest roll.

  • @TravisErickson5

    I think, mechanically, this sort of rule (it exists in a few other games) is intended to "reward" a more skilled individual in a contest. So, if one individual has a rating of 80 and another a rating of 40, it means not only that the 80 skill is more likely to be successful, but also has a larger "ceiling" (up to 80) compared to the 40 skill. I think I've heard it called a "blackjack" before (roll under, but as high as possible). It's not initially intuitive, but I appreciate what it's attempting to represent. EDIT: I've reflected that because I spent so many years watching The Price is Right growing up (and in college), that's the reason why this mechanic makes so much sense to me.

    Whenever you roll doubles when attempting any skill check, regardless of whether you succeed or fail that check you can mark the box next to that skill as a reminder that next time you rest at camp you can take a Skill Improvement check for a chance to improve the skill. You basically would then roll a D100 and need to score ABOVE the current skill level. If you do that you then roll a D4 to see how many points that skill increases by. Rules Skill Improvement p.60 It's a nice system because the higher your current skill level the harder it becomes to get better at it (because you need to roll higher than its current value to improve).

    I really like this game! However what I haven't understood so far are the Sanity rules. What happens if my sanity is already down at zero? I check for madness. OK. But now what.How, for example does the Madness "Each time you suffer any loss of Sanity, you lose 1 extra Sanity" has any effect? I am already at sanity zero.Any ideas? So if I am at Sanity zero, and rolled for madness it seems to be best to not recovery Sanity. Then you do not have to roll for madness again. I must be missing something.

  • @lone_adventurer

    @lone_adventurer

    3 ай бұрын

    Good question, and one that I'm not sure the rulebook clearly answers. I think the most logical approach when you're on zero sanity is that if you are in a situation where you would lose sanity, you have to roll again on the madness table and suffer another consequence. That way you're incentivised to increase your sanity so you no longer have to do that when you lose sanity. Hope that helps!

  • @alejotm000

    @alejotm000
