Kenyon Martin on why NBA players don't like Chris Paul, Picks Warriors over Rockets | NBA | THE HERD

Спорт

Fifteen-year NBA veteran Kenyon Martin joins Colin Cowherd in studio on The Herd to discuss all things 2018 NBA Playoffs, noting why other players around the league do not like Chris Paul, who he thinks will come out on top between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics and why he believes the Golden State Warriors will reign supreme.

    3 yrs later: Kenyon was right. You do need a PJ Tucker 5:31. Milwaukee got him. In Game 6 of the finals, he played 36 min, only took one shot and didn't make it, had 0 pts, and now Milwaukee are champions. 🏆

    Shout to PG Tucker! Millwaukee is the working man's team... They put in so much effort out there. Not saying that others did, I'm just saying that The Mil got it out of the mud with focused intensity lead by Giannis.

    Doesn't this interview make sense that even after losing to MIL, he still manages to coax the PHX front office for millions of dollars at his age let alone knowing the odds will not be in his favor again to reach the NBA Finals? Chris Paul is in business for himself which is why he isn't trusted amongst his teammates. Given time Booker and Aayton will realize that while they played to win, he played to sell a star-hungry Robert Sarver a bad bill of goods.

    dtanktdtank so he’s supposed to pass the ball when his teamates are less likely to succeed ? I don’t follow. Westbrook did that with KD he would give it to KD with 5 sec on the clock and KD would do something crazy to score and get Westbrook the assist. cP3 has never had that kind of talent around him, if anything he made guys look more efficient than they actually were because he knew exactly how to optimize their shots. If that’s selfish then I want that on my team

    No, he's a selfish teammate. Like in off the court situations he's selfish. His basketball point was that he either scores, assists, or turns it over. He doesn't like working off of the ball unless he knows he's getting a pass to shoot.

    Okay for those of you wondering what Kenyon is saying that cp3 is selfish despite having great assist number I’ll explain: he says “it’s either an assist or a turnover.” What he’s talking about is half court creation. It’s what I think is the same frustration some teammates like kyrie had with lebron. The joy and beauty of basketball is creation. Every players dream even guys like deandre Jordan is to be a part of creating a beautiful basketball play. When chris Paul brings the ball up you get forced to create basketball in the way he wants it to be created because he dominates the ball and how it’s created and he’s such a genius that he immediately will shut down anyone else trying to create in a way he seems less efficient then his way; thereby limiting others joy which many players who love creating themselves see as selfish. (And often leads to a lack of commitment to defense). Kobe and Jordan were selfish players but we’re geniuses at understanding when their teammates needed to create to feel involved which would give them the energy to play elite defense, while also saving their teammates physical energy by doing the heavy lifting in terms of scoring. This in my opinion (along with better secondary stars ofc) is why they have won significantly more championships then cp3

    I understand what he means by CP3 being selfish but imo it's more selfish to complain about that. CP3 constantly led the Clippers to the #1 offense while on-court you can't fault that. It's like complaining about LeBron holding the ball for too long. For example, if a player takes 30shots and only misses 1 shot are you going to tell him to stop shooting? I think players should just try do whatever is best for the team.

  • @ericsmith2890

    @ericsmith2890

    Emmanuel that’s a very fair sentiment. But if you were an excellent player who played with another excellent player and they shot 60-60 every game and you never took a shot but you won every game would you still be motivated and want to stay on that team? Most people can stay motivated in that scenario for one or two games but by the third game you’re like okay can I at least take a few shots? And you start to disengage on defense because on offense you’ve lost focus. Human nature is key when understanding how to win championships and I feel like cp3 hasn’t quite figured out how to keep teammates engaged in big games and I feel like lebron lost this when in Cleveland (cuz his team sucked) but that he had it in Miami cuz he respected D wade and bosh to create. (Always top 5 defenses in Miami bottom 5 in Cleveland)

    I understand completely what kmart is talking about. I usually always go by the eye test when judging players rather than using offensive and defensvie metrics to gauge player x performance. Im not against analytics by any means but usually ppl who are all about analytics have very little or no experience playing the game. Stats don't show player created space off the dribble to get his shot off, how player used the pick roll, how player split thru the trap to get into the paint, how player came off the screen curl to free himself etc.. I can go on and on the stats only show after the fact and from my estimation it's simply not the best gauge of how good a player is.
